All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hominy Cemetery--Hominy OK The Hominy News Dec. 2, 1949 Vol. 45, No. 3 Page 1 Schwabe Rites Conducted Here Monday Resident of Hominy for 40 Years Dies Friday; Member of Eastern Star Services for Mrs. W. E. Schwabe, resident of Hominy since 1909, were conducted Monday afternoon in the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. S. I. Ray, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Hominy cemetery under the direction of the Powell Funeral home. Mrs. Schwabe died Friday after being in ill health for the past year. She was 75 years of age. Music for the services was provided by Mrs. Neva Colley Gray, Tulsa, who sang "In the Garden," and Mrs. William Fallin and Mrs. S. I. ray, who sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and Beneath the Cross of Jesus." Mrs. Hiram A. Hartshorn, jr., was the accompanist. Casket bearers were Jess Groninger, Leander Hall, Hogan Rooker, A. N. Millsap, E. R. Martin and R. G. Walker. Born at Bellfontaine, Ohio, March 29, 1874, she moved with her parents to Braymer, Mo., in 1875. She continued to live there until her marriage in 1900 to William Edward Schwaba. They were married on her 26th birthday. The same year they moved to Billings and then to Comance the following year. In the fall of 1909 they moved to Hominy where Mr. Schwaba established the first telephone exchange here. They continued to make Hominy their home since that time. Mrs. Schwaba joined the United Brethren church which was located on her father's farm in Missouri at the age of 12. In 1911 she united with the First Baptist church of Hominy and was active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the missionary society of that church. In 1922 she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian church here and remained a member until her death. She had held several offices in the Naomi Sunday school class of that church and was a member of the Earnest Workers, church missionary society. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Lorena Hammond, of Hyattsville, Md. Other survivors include three brothers, Frank Hawes, Braymer, Mo. , D. E. Hawes, Shawnee, and H. T.
