Toothman was born July 11, 1904 in Polo, Missouri. She was the daughter of Charlie and Della Gray. Ethel moved with her family at an early age to Prue, where she was raised and obtained her education. Ethel was married to Purl Everett Toothman on April 24, 1926 in Tulsa. In the early 1930's, the couple purchased a farm near Prue, where they raised their two sons, Paul and Ray Gene. The couple operated a ranch where they raised and sold cattle for over sixty years until Purl Everett passed away on June 6, 1991. Ethel prided herself in being a good wife, mother and grandmother and set those goals as her life's ambition. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and embroidering. Ethel was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Prue. Ethel passed away on Thurs. Feb. 28, 2002 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of ninety-seven years, seven months and seventeen days. In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, Ethel was preceded by her parents; son, Ray Gene; two brothers, Pat and Royce Gray; and a grandson Glenn. Ethel is survived by her son, Paul Toothman, Prue; four grandchildren, Randy Toothman, Avant, Pam Fast, Prue, Jeannie James, Prue, and Ronnie Toothman, Prue; great-grandchildren, Shawn Rae Rusco, Prue, Clint Toothman, Tulsa, Caleb Toothman, Prue, Cole Fast, Mannford, Cody Toothman, Sand Springs, Ashley Toothman, Sand Springs, Nathan Toothman, Mannford, Randa Toothman, Mannford, Wade Toothman, Pryor, Caylor Toothman, Pryor, and Colby Toothman, Avant; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cameron Toothman, Raegan Rusco and Austin Toothman. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Mon. March 4, 2002 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland with Rev. Gary McDevitt officiating. Burial was held at the Prairie View Cemetery in Prue under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
