The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TROY LEE CORNETT OCNS - May 14, 2002 - Mr. Troy Lee Cornett, 76, a resident of Barnsdall, Oklahoma and retiree of the Petrolite/Bareco Company, died at 4:05 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the family residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, in the Barnsdall First Christian Church with Reverend Larry Evans, Reverend M.I. Teel and Mr. David Wilson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Ethel Reese Cemetery by the Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home. Full military graveside rites will be accorded Mr. Cornett by the Webster Schrack American Legion Post #227. A memorial in Troy's name has been established to the Webster Schrack American Legion Post #227 and those who wish may forward their gifts to P.O. Box 672, Barnsdall, OK 74002. Mr. Cornett will lie in state in The Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home where friends may call for their visitation until he is removed for final rites on Thursday afternoon. A native of Missouri, Troy Lee Cornett was born February 13, 1926 at Neosho, the son of Robert Stephen and Myrtle Wynona (Ball) Cornett. In 1930 the Cornett family moved to Osage County, Oklahoma and made their home in the rural Herd community. Troy began his education in the Trumbly School and completed his education in the Herd Public School. During World War II, in 1944, Troy was enlisted in the US Army and served with the Armored 10th Division in the European Theater of Operations. He was honorably discharged in April, 1946 and returned to Osage County where he was active in insulation work. He and Miss Alice Lorraine Cook were united in marriage September 10, 1949 at Barnsdall where they made their home. Mr. Cornett was employed by the Petrolite Chemical Corporation in the Bareco Plant in Barnsdall for thirty-seven years, retiring in September, 1987. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Barnsdall and the Webster Schrack American Legion Post #227. Survivors include: His wife, Alice of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Doyle (Linda Kay) Beaver of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; a son, Harold Michael Smith of Tulsa; three brothers, Charley Noble and Robert S. Cornett both of Avant, Oklahoma, and Roy Eugene Cornett of Barnsdall; two sisters, Ms Bonnie Spriggs of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Mrs. Maybell Gibson of Avant; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Herman Gilmore and a sister, Mrs. Wilma G. Bazmore.
