She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Al Vice, son, Gerald Vice and wife, Mary from Seattle, daughter, Linda Jewett and husband Mike from Ashland, daughter, Shelley Jones and husband, Lee from Eugene, son, David Vice and wife, Laine from Seattle, grandson, Mitchell Stokes and wife, Shelly from Klamath Falls, seven additional grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Ruth Thornhill was born in Wynona, Oklahoma, September 3, 1921. She moved to Oregon in 1937 where she met and married Al. Ruth was passionate about her career as wife, mother, and grandmother. She believed there was nothing more important in life than family. Ruth was a woman of great compassion, humor, and intelligence. She was a "doer." Ruth loved music and recorded a record with her sisters Viva and Bonnie as a teenager. Later, she sang with the Sweet Adeline's Barbershop Chorus in Eugene. She painted, sewed, knitted, and water-skied. She cooked and entertained. She was renowned for her incredible taco parties. Ruth, along with Al, loved to travel and had wonderful stories about places all over the world. She had completed the New York Times Crossword on the day she passed away. And she did this all while raising her family. There is no one who believed more in the power of positive thinking than Ruth. She was a gutsy, tenacious, resilient woman who fought several illnesses in order to have more time with her loved ones. Family and friends can take great comfort in knowing that her passing was peaceful. They also can take great comfort in knowing that Ruth will live in their hearts forever. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Mt. View Estates Clubhouse, Talent, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Memory Garden Mortuary of Medford in care of arrangements.
