She left to be with the Lord on Sept. 8, 2001. Velma was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Nettie Scroggins, her two brothers Orville and Quinton, and a twin sister Thelma Irene Petcoff. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Core and their four children: son Larry and his wife Bobbye; daughter Barbara and her two daughters Lindsey and Devin; daughter Shirley Sanders and her five children Chris and his wife Robin, Alixis, Gregory, Angela and John; daughter Sherilin Core, plus a number of nieces and nephews. Velma's family moved to Wynona where she and her sister and brothers graduated from Wynona High School. Velma and her twin sister were outstanding basketball players in high school. After graduation from high school, Velma worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Tulsa. Toward the end of WWII, Velma married Floyd Core on Aug. 12, 1944. This year Velma and Floyd were married for 57 years. After her youngest daughter, Sherillin, entered school, Velma returned to public work force. She spent the following 23 years working in the Tulsa Public School system. She retired in May, 1990. During most of her time in Tulsa, Velma and her family attended the Harvard Avenue Baptist Church. It was at this church, Velma met some wonderful ladies - her Sunday classmates. The friendship with these ladies and with her co-workers of the Tulsa School system has continued through all of these years. Velma cherished all of her friends throughout her lifetime. We are sure that she is thinking of all of you. It has been an active and wonderful life with Velma and I am sure that we will be together again.
