VERA MATILDA (SWANSON) THOMPSON OCNS - June 18, 2002 - Mrs. Vera Matilda (Swanson) Thompson, 79, formerly of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, died Saturday, June 15, at her family residence in Kanab, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2002 in the Sanctuary of the Barnsdall First Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe Reeves officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the East Ethel Reese Cemetery by The Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state in the Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home where friends may call for their visitation on Thursday and until she is removed to the church for services and final rites on Friday afternoon. Vera Matilda Swanson was born April 7, 1923 in Barnsdall, Osage County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bart R. and Ludie Belie (Soward) Swanson. She was reared and received her education in Barnsdall and was graduated with the Barnsdall High School Senior class of 1941. She and Charles W. Smith were married and he preceded her in death. She moved to Kanab in 1986 and she and Henry Garn Thompson were married on August 9, 1998 in Kanab where they continued to live in retirement. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the United Church of Kanab-Fredonia. She was an avid collector of antiques and shoes and loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Garn Thompson and her children, Bill (Michelle) Smith and Marilyn (Jim) Kurtz all of Kanab; brothers and sisters, Boyd (Jean) Swanson of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Ray (Edna) Swanson of Barnsdall, Vivian (Hal) Lewis, Neosho, Missouri, Loyal (Zella) Swanson of Barnsdall, Everett (Martha) Swanson of Independence, Kansas and Douglas Lynn Swanson of Dewey, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jessica Ferrand, Jennifer Smith, Bart Smith, Bret Smith, Blake Smith, Robin Coleman and Dean Kurtz and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Charles Smith and Chic Evans; son, Donald Smith; sister, Pearl Smith and brother, Jess Swanson.
