GIVENS OCNS - January 30, 2002 - Vernie E. Givens, 88, passed away Monday, January 21, 2002, at his home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Mr. Givens was born, March 23, 1913, in Rogers, Missouri, the son of Harry E. and Cora Alice (Brown) Givens. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a plumber by trade. Survivors are a daughter, Delores Covington and husband, Gerald, of Pawhuska; a son, Doug Givens and wife, Marcia, of Catoosa, Oklahoma; a brother, Ralph Givens of Osage, Oklahoma; a sister, Bonnie Jean Hickman of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kim Smith, Dana Inman, Patrick Keough, Mike Givens, Danny Smith and Ronnie Poulter; ten great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Mr. Givens was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl Givens and George Givens and a daughter, Dortha Givens Smith. Graveside services were held January 23, at 10:00 a.m., in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Julie Sherrock of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska, was in charge of arrangements.
