She attended beauty college in St. Paul, Minnesota where she earned a degree in Cosmetology before returning to Pawhuska and opening "Vietta's Beauty Salon". While owning and operating the business and working full time for twenty years, she successfully raised four children before relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio where she was employed with the L.S. Ayres Company. She later joined Contour Hair Design, retiring from that company in 1999. Vietta accepted Christ at an early age and in Cincinnati, joined Allen Temple AME Church where she was a choir member and served on the Women's Missionary Society. The Allen Temple congregation became her extended family and a place where she found "a home away from home". As an instrument of God, He used her to teach the understanding of kindness, compassion and humbleness. Vietta's unwavering strength and devotion showed a path for others to follow and her spirit of goodwill affected all who knew and loved her. When her work was done, October 25, 1999, He sent a guardian angel to carry her soul home. Vietta passed away quietly and peacefully, as she lived her life. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzette Batson, a brother, Connie Sutton and a sister, Noree Clegg. She is survived by two sisters, Nadine Harper of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Octavia Waters of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, C.T. Sutton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three sons, Cleo Brown, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Leo Brown, Edina, Minnesota; and Morris Dyes of Houston, Texas; three daughters-in-law, Yolanda Maya Brown, Brenda Bassiganni Brown and Berna Gilkey Dyes; six grandchildren, Tracey Batson, James Brown, Phillip Brown, Camille Ishem, Candice Dobson and Clarice Brown; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Geer, Aaron Dyes, Brooke Ishem, Brigham Ishem and Kaitlyn Batson and a host of other relatives, friends and her Allen Temple Church family. Services were conducted Monday, November 1, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. in the Johnson Chapel, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, by Pastor Winfred Brown with interment in the Pawhuska Cemetery.
