The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WILLIAM ALBERT WELLS OCNS - November 30, 2002 - Mr. William Albert "Bill" Wells, 85, long time resident of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, and retired owner/operator of Wells Service Station, went to be with the Lord at 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2002 at the family residence surrounded by his family. A native of Osage County, Oklahoma William Albert Wells was born at Avant on May 31, 1917, the son of John H. and Grace Darling (Masterson) Wells. He was reared and received his education in the Avant community and was graduated from the Avant High School. he and Miss Edna Elene Griggs were united in marriage at Pawhuska, Oklahoma on December 18, 1939. He was an employee of the Barnsdall Oil Company for nine years prior to his owning and operating the Wells Service Station in Barnsdall for twenty years. Mrs. Edna Wells preceded Bill in death August 22, 1960 and on June 15, 1961, he and Wauneta Wynn Kelley were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Barnsdall and continued to make their home in Barnsdall. Following his retirement from the service station and mechanic business, Mr. Wells began his employment with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission as a Gasoline Inspector. He was retired from the State of Oklahoma following seventeen years of service and remained living in retirement in Barnsdall. Mr. Wells was a member and faithful servant of the First Baptist church, Barnsdall where he served as a Deacon and in many other places of service. He was a past president of Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce, a City Councilman, president of Barnsdall Ambulance Association. He had served on the Board of Barnsdall Development Corporation and, for thirty-five years, was known as the "voice" of Barnsdall Panthers. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wauneta Wynn Kelley Wells of the home; three sons, Danny Wells and his wife, Norma of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Bob Kelley and his wife, Linda, and Larry Kelley and his wife, Evelyn, all of Barnsdall; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three grandchildren; a brother, John E. Wells and his wife, Delphine of Bixby, Oklahoma; a sister, Mrs. Mardell Snively of Confluence, Pennsylvania and by his uncle, Melvin A. Wells and his wife, Lillian of Miami, Oklahoma and other relatives and friends. In addition to his first wife, Edna, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Ruth Hamby and her husband, Dale, and by a son, Jerry L. Kelley. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26, in the Barnsdall First Baptist Church with the Reverends James Brunk, Joe Reeves and Norman Hamby officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in the Ethel Reese Cemetery, Barnsdall under the direction of Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home.
