Friday, Oct. 13, 1911 UNCLE GEORGE HOLT DEAD George W. HOLT, aged 69 years, died at his home in this city yesterday at 1:10 p.m. Mr. HOLT has been a citizen of this community for nearly twenty-six years, having came here from Indiana in the first settling of this country. He was a member of the Christian church, and the Odd Fellows fraternity, and was a charter member of the local lodge. Funeral services will be held at the family residence at 2 o’clock this afternoon, and interment will be made in the city cemetery. The funeral services will be according to the ritualistic customs of the I.O.O.F. His aged companion, two sons and a daughter, survive him. One son, Rufus, in Washington, the others were at his bedside. Mr. HOLT had been in failing health for several months and hiss passing away was without a struggle. SLIPPED OFF AND MARRIED Last Saturday evening, B.A. HOWARD, of the Fairland Hardware Co., quietly vanished from sight and nothing was seen or heard of him until Tuesday morning when he returned with a bride. The young lady was formerly Miss Lizzie WEBB, and the wedding took place at the home of the bride’s parents at Rocky Comfort, Mo., on Sunday last. The young couple will go to housekeeping in Fairland, and will soon be "at home" to friends. May their path be strown with roses. NEW SHOW HOUSE L.D. LONG has fitted up a neat show house in his stone building on the east side, with declining floor and a large roomy stage. It will be used for the picture shows this winter as well as a place for vaudeville troups, etc., which may come this way. THE REVIVAL MEETING The series of meetings at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. READY, of Miami, and the pastor, Rev. JONES, is not having the support from the church and Christian people that it deserves. Rev. READY is a good preacher and while good congregations are out at the night services, the day congregations are small. Let all who can attend these meetings and assist in the work. LOCAL NEWS Miss Nellie UMPHENOUR visited home folks at Afton, Sunday. Rolland HILL left Tuesday, for Paris, Tex., on a business trip. Geo. F. MILBOURN left Sunday evening for a point in Texas, on business. Mrs. STOVER and Mrs. R.M. HALE, attended church in Seneca last Sunday. Prof. C.W. PRIER visited home folks over Sunday, returning to Quapaw Sunday night. John and Ab GOINS came in from Pe Ell, Wash, last Sunday morning. They all drift back to Fairland sooner or later. E.W. GALLEMORE has begun the erection of a nice home on what is known as the BREEDLOVE lots on East Church street. John CONNOLLY and Fred WALKER are each building additions to their residences on West Conner Ave. Dr. and Mrs. BREEDLOVE and the little one, of Muldrow, were guests at the J.S. CAMPBELL home the first of the week. Mrs. Ulyssis SLONIKER returned to her home at Webb City, last Tuesday accompanied by her mother, Mrs. BRIDENSTINE. Mrs. Anna MORLAN and little daughter left Sunday evening for Wyoming to spend the winter. Mrs. H.S. VAUGHN and son Lang, left Monday for Muskogee, to visit her daughter and see the fair. E.T. SWEENEY of Stilwell, says to keep the News coming or he will be the defendant in a divorce suit. All right, Tom, don’t want anything like that to happen. John FORD has been enjoying a visit from his brother from Texas, this week. Mrs. THARP has been to Vinita this week with her husband who has a job of work there. Geo. RHONEMUS, F.M. CONNER, W.B. HILLEN and Andy GOINS attended church conference of the Latter Day Saints at Joplin last Sunday.
