Friday, Nov. 3, 1911 CITY MARSHALL RESIGNS At a called session of the city council last Monday night, W.W. HEARD offered his resignation as city marshal. A committee was appointed to audit his books and report at regular meeting tonight when, it is presumed, his resignation will be accepted. We understand there are two or three applications in for the appointment. Mr. HEARD gave no reason for his action, but it is thought that he felt he did not have enough support from the citizens of the town. There are always some who kick on the marshal. If he does his duty one element will war, and if he neglects it, the same thing happens. At best, it is no very desirable place for a person to make friends. FRED KELLEY DEAD Fred KELLEY, of Vinita, known as the "hay king" of northeast, Oklahoma, died in St. Louis yesterday morning, at 2 o’clock. The message did not state the cause of his death. Mr. KELLEY was one of the best known men in this section of the state, and has bought more farm products than any man in the county. The news of his death was a great shock to Vinita. His funeral will be held tomorrow. HUDSON CREEK Asa MASON, of Wann, called at Mr. EDENS’ last Sunday. C. CONNOR and family attended church in town Sunday. Houston JAMES and family and Miss Martha BLACKWELL came up from Vinita Saturday, to visit relatives. M.T. MABREY came in Wednesday from Shell City, Mo., to see how Fairland was progressing. He looks homesick. J.W. CHANDLER drew the sewing machine at Campbell Bro’s. on last Saturday. This makes the fifth premium that this family has drawn there this year and reminds us of the old adage that "It is better to be born lucky than rich." Mrs. EMMERT is enjoying a visit from a sister from Kansas. John GOINS is erecting a new residence in the west part of town. Miss Anna ROSE is the new night operator at the central office.
