Friday, Dec. 8, 1911 OBITUARY W.H. NUNAMAKER, Sr. died at his home in Joplin, Mo., on Nov. 22, 1911, after an illness of nine days. He was 77 years old. Was born in Louisville, Ky. Enlisted in the civil war in 1861, and served 3 years. Was in 25 battles. Was a member of O.P. Morton Grand Army Post in Joplin, Mo. He leaves a wife and 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls, all of which are married. He was a member of the Latter Day Saints’ church and his trust was in his God. His funeral was preached in Joplin, Nov. 24, by Eld. ENGLISH, and interment was made in the Fairland cemetery, the day following. MARRIAGE The News is informed that Bob BRADLEY and Miss Jessie BARNETT were married at Cassville, Mo., yesterday morning. They left here night before last and no one knew of their intentions until the news came over the long distance telephone announcing their marriage. ASSAULTED WITH A BOTTLE At a dance at the home of Dick COOLEY, south of town last Saturday night, someone in the dark assaulted Earnest KELLY with a whiskey bottle, cutting an ugly wound in his cheek and from which he almost bled to death before a doctor could be had. The one who made the assault escaped in the darkness and has not been apprehended. It was a close call for Earnest. LOCAL NEWS Mrs. J. JACKSON visited in Vinita, Saturday last. Miss Dollie MILBOURN has been quite sick the past week. Billy NUNAMAKER has our very best thanks for a renewal. Mack KING from across the Neosho was trading here Monday last. Miss Maud CROCKETT returned Monday from a visit with her brothers at Chouteau. Frank CONNOLLY came down from Springfield the latter part of last week to see the folks. Mrs. W.E. CARLETT and children visited her mother Mrs. HAMILTON of the Alluwee over Sunday. Jim MILLER has bought the Central barber shop and will move to town and take charge in the near future. Miss Vada SMITH visited home folks at Cleora, from Friday to Sunday. She was accompanied by Zola NEWPORT of this place and she boasts of one of the most enjoyable visits she ever had. John CONNOLLY was over from Miami, Sunday, cracking jokes with the boys. Mrs. TESTERMAN orders the news to her sister, Mrs. BARNES, at Mead, Wash. Miss Fanny JAMES came up from Vinita to spend Sunday with home folks. She was accompanied by her friend Miss Mary SIXKILLER. Uncle Bob MYERS was over from near Seneca last Saturday, to see how much Fairland had grown. He enrolled for the little home paper while here. W.W. BLACKWELL enrolls as a reader of the News. Steve DILLENGER of Needmore was shopping here Wednesday. Mrs. W.T. FORD of Tahlequah, has been visiting her father, Dr. O.J. BYRD this week. A.S. LEE and wife of Miami, were visiting at the Dr. BYRD home the first of the week. Uncle Bill ANGEL paid us a brief call last Tuesday, and put his name on our roll of honor. Miss Jessie JAMES orders the News to her sister Miss Jettie, who is teaching at Spavinaw. Ben BOWMAN lost his watch last Sunday. Hunted for it until yesterday. Put an ad in the News and found it in 20 minutes. Do you get the moral? C.A. HALLAM had to give possession where he was living this week, and had to move to Afton to get a house, there not being a house in Fairland he could get. There’s a proposition for the Commercial Club. Ralph RUTLEGE left yesterday for Springfield, where he goes to take his wife for medical treatment, who has been bothered some time with some chronic trouble. G.W. ROUTH, of Oregon, formerly of this place, was shaking hands with old friends here yesterday. HUDSON CREEK. Frank JAMES called at W.C. JAMES last Sunday. Gilbert SKELTON and wife visited at John EDENS Saturday night. Jack HENDRICKSON and wife returned home last Friday after a weeks visit at Uncle Harve WESTONs. Chas. NOVIS and family, of Lennapah, Okla., was visiting Mrs. NOVIS uncle, Will JAMES last week. Mrs. C. CONNER and children visited her sister, Mrs. Will HARLIN of White Oak, Thanksgiving returning home Sunday. OGEECHEE NEWS Mr. ADAM’s son is on the sick list this week. Mrs. ANGLE and Mrs. TRISLER visited Mrs. ADAMS Sunday. Mrs. BLACKWELL and daughter visited Mrs. WYFORD Sunday. Mrs. WALKER is enjoying a visit from her daughter this week. Miss Eula BRIDENSTINE visited Miss Edith WYFORD Thanksgiving. Mr. WYFORD stayed all night with his brother James WYFORD this week. Miss Effie and Gladdes HARDEN, Miss Laura and Reather TRIDLER visited Miss Edith and Dortha WYFORD last Sunday. SHILOH NEWS Miss Maud ELLIOTT has been visiting T.A. ELLIOTT and wife this week. A little boy baby arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LEFFER, Dec. 3. J.F. ENGLAND and family took dinner with Mrs. Rebecca ENGLAND, Sunday. J.E. McFARLAND has had bad luck the past week having lost two of his horses. Miss Edith SKELTON left for Missouri last Saturday to stay with her sister and go to school. Mr. and Mrs. Jack ENGLAND and J.L. ENGLAND and family spent Thanksgiving with J.E. McFARLAND and family.
