Friday, Dec. 15, 1911 BUILDING A GARRAGE Dr. F.R. DEANS this week began the erection of a Garrage on his lot on Main street, just north of the Implement building. The structure is a frame building but will be sufficient in size for this place. What next? SHOT IN THE NECK Fairland had a little shooting scrape last Sunday night, that came very near being fatal. The trouble came up at the Red Front restaurant, at about 11 o’clock, and from all reports bad whiskey was much in evidence, and resulted in Ed. BAIN, aged about 18, being shot in the neck by Frank DARNELL. Reports differ as to the particulars of the affair, but DARNELL and a young man by the name of WILLIAMS, a new comer here, were arrested and taken to Miami, to await the development of BAIN’s injuries. The wounded man seems to be recovering all right and the accused were on yesterday admitted to bail, which was furnished, and they were released. A number of the gang were arrested on Monday morning and paid some good stiff fines for being drunk and disorderly. Since then things have been orderly and quiet. HUDSON CREEK Letta WINTERS is reported some better. Mesdames Jim GARMAN and children, Dow FLINT and children called at Mr. EDENS Sunday. Mr. MOORE, the fruit agent, was through this part of the country the first of the week. Cash BRICE, Loach EDENS, Cleat EDENS, Jessie JAMES, Elsie BRICE and Mabel MOXLEY and George FOLLIS called at Dave WINTERS, last Sunday. George COUCH and wife of Navigan, Va., Lum EDENS and wife of Cassville, Mo., and George EDENS and wife of Needmore, Okla., were visiting their nephew John EDENS, one day last week. LOCAL NEWS Mrs. Wm. KELLY and children were Afton visitors Wednesday. The reason you haven’t heard Fox McGHEE out with his auto lately is he has a little daughter at his home to nurse. See? Joe LEMASTER returned Wednesday night from Springfield, where he had been in attendance at the operation performed upon Mrs. R.R. RUTLEDGE. He states that she stood the operation fairly well and that the surgeons say that she will now get well beyond any doubt. Fred PENINGTON made his regular trip to Seneca, Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. O.T. SPROUL were callers at the News office last Saturday, and renewed for the little home paper. Mr. and Mrs. TUCKER of Monett were here Sunday to see the latter’s uncle, N.C. GALLEMORE, who was confined to his bed. J.M. BARTMESS made a trip to Joplin again last Sunday. We shouldn’t be surprised to see "Rawsum" bringing some one back with him one of these days. Mrs. DAVIS, wife of the Baptist pastor, came in Saturday evening and they have been fitting up their home this week in the Baptist parsonage. N.C. GALLEMORE took a tumble down through the frame work of the water tower last week, and sustained some pretty bad bruises in the fall. It is a very fortunate thing that he was injured no worse than he was and he may be thankful that he escaped with his life. Bob BRADLEY and his bride returned from Cassville, Saturday, to make their home in Fairland. Frank HUBBARD was up from Afton, Monday, attending a meeting of the Township board. Wm. GREEN and family loaded out last week and left for their farm at Meeker, Okla.
