Friday, March 15, 1912 Three Knots Tied Wm. BRICE and Mrs. Cordelia COPELAND of near town were married at Vinita last Tuesday. This match has been expected for some time and they will have the congratulations of their many friends. Sherman BRADLEY of this place and Miss Pearl LOAFMAN of Miami, were married on Tuesday last at Miami. Sherm is still holding down his job as Frisco Fireman, and they will live at Afton. Best wishes. Mr. Clyde HELM and Miss May GOODE were married at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mart MILLER west of town Wednesday last, Rev. Harve WESTON, officiating. Both are well and favorably known young people of the community. The News joins in congratulations to the newlyweds. Mrs. R.M. Hall Dead News reached here the first of the week of the death of Mrs. R.M. HALL of Afton. Mr. and Mrs. HALL just moved from this community to Afton about the first of the year and the news of her death was a great surprise to their many friends here. Mrs. HALL was a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J.L. DUNCAN who formerly lived here. We have not learned the particulars. A New Dray Bob COOLEY and Byrd HARRISON have taken out license for a dray, and respectfully offer their service to public. Prompt service and reasonable charges. Republican Club Doings The call meeting of the Fairland Republican Club last Tuesday night brought out a fairly good crowd, there being about 45 present. The election of officers resulted as follows: L.D. LONG, president; Geo. F. MILBOURN, vice president; John W. CHANDLER, secretary; John A. CHERRY, treasurer. Resolutions were then adopted endorsing Judge Frank ADAMS of Miami, for federal commissioner of Ottawa county. Next came the vote on the various candidates for the endorsement of the club for deputy U.S. Marshall. J.L. BIXBY, D.F. MOORE, Floyd ROBERTS and Fred MILOURN, were nominated. The vote was then taken and MILBOURN had them all skinned, receiving more votes than all the others combined. A few little tilts were injected into the proceedings which only served to liven things up and did not result seriously. 3 Business Houses Robbed Fairland was visited by the smooth-fingered gentry on last Sunday night. Sometime during the night burglars entered the stores of Shepherd & Co., Dumas & Nidiffer and Bradley’s restaurant, and, while not a great deal could be missed, it is hardly probable that they went away empty handed. The knob of the safe in the Shepherd store was wrenched off in an effort to gain an entrance to the money box. It is generally thought to be the work of someone familiar with the surroundings, as their work does not appear to be that of professionals, and certain individuals here are under suspicion and are being watched.
