The accident occurred late Saturday evening. The boy had been to the home of Henry HARLIN, a short distance away, and on his return, his father sought to scare him, and hid behind a bush. When the lad came home he saw something move behind the bush, and he fired at it with the small rifle he carried. His aim was true. The bullet struck his father and passed through the chest, inflicting a wound, from which the elder FINTON died last night. —Vinita Daily Chieftain DIED AT MIAMI Justin M. WALKER, Deputy County Clerk, at Miami, and a nephew of P.L. WALKER of this place, died at 2:45 yesterday morning, after an illness of several weeks. His remains are being interred at the cemetery here this afternoon. The deceased was 61 years of age, and had no family. KELLY-BRICE Mr. Howell KELLY and Miss Maud BRICE, accompanied by a number of their young friends, drove out to the country home of Rev. Harve WESTON last Wednesday evening, where they were united in the holy bonds of wedlock. This wedding was another of those long looked for, and was therefore no great surprise. both young people are well and favorably known throughout the country and have a host of friends who wish them all the joys of a happy life. WELL KNOWN HERE From a Romana exchange we note the marriage, on March 15, inst., of Miss Eva Rew BYRD, to Mr. Alexander James NAGLE, of that place. The ceremony was performed by Rev. CANNADY of the Baptist church, and the young couple left on a wedding tour through Illinois. the bride is well known in Fairland, being the daughter of our townsman Dr. O.J. BYRD, and is a popular young lady. MARRIAGE Married at the home of the bride’s parents at Oseuma on Sunday morning, Miss Ethel May WARNER to Mr. Albert R. GRIMES, Rev. L.R. JONES, of this place officiating. A number of friends were present to witness the ceremony, and a big wedding dinner followed. LOCAL NEWS Mrs. S.T. LINCOLN enjoyed a visit this week from her brother Dr. SMITH, of Collinsville. Geo. F. MILBOURN is erecting a large corn crib in which to store that bumper corn crop that our farmers are going to raise this summer perhaps. J.W. CHANDLER had business at Vinita Saturday. L.D. LONG transacted business at Vinita, Monday. On last Saturday, Dock STOFFER bought the Bee Hive restaurant, and D.F. MOORE is now a gentleman of leisure again. Rev. JONES, Orville COLE and Eugene SMITH represented the Fairland League at the District Conference at Afton last Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. and Mrs. Guy COWHERD left last Saturday evening for their home at Purdy, Mo., where they will go to housekeeping. Maud BRICE resigned her position as night operator at the telephone office and Sig ELLIOTT is night girl again. Jerry REYNOLDS left last Sunday evening for Road House, Mo., where he expects to be gone for about four months. He orders the News. Jim CHAMBERS is plying the paint on his residence on the south side. Fred WALKER is re-roofing his house this week. Fred is no Arkansawyer. Workmen have begun the erection of Scott CAMPBELL’s new residence on East Conner. Uncle John EVANS renews to keep the News going to his daughter, Mrs. ESSEX, in California. Wm. KELLY took in the prizefight at Tulsa last Tuesday. Bill says it didn’t look a bit good to him. Clyde FREEMAN and Houston JAMES have their new residences well under way of construction and Johnson FALLING will soon be living at home. LONE STAR ITEMS Mrs. Amon GREEN is being bothered with heart trouble. Earnest GREEN took a load of corn to Afton Monday. C.O. HARNE has started a stone quarry near the school house. Burris LADD has the champion rabbit dogs of the neighborhood. Chas. VALERINS is still buying hogs. He buys all kinds and colors. Robert WOOD and family and Amon GREEN and wife visited Bert BOYD and wife Sunday. HUDSON CREEK Sam LANE of Joplin is at Uncle Billie’s this week. Tilda WINTERS called on Jennie JAMES last Sunday. Mr. ATCHINSON of Muskogee have moved on the HILLEN farm. Mrs. C. CONNER was shopping in Fairland last Saturday afternoon. Will FOLLIS and family spent Sunday with Jim GARMAN and family. We are glad to learn that Brack WEIR is able to be up again
