Friday, March 8, 1912 DEATH Mrs. Wm. HUTCHINS, living with her husband near Narcissa, died Friday of last week and was buried here Monday. Her funeral was preached at the Saints’ church by Eld. F.M. CONNER. LOCAL NEWS Homer NICHOLSON of Afton, representing the Lamm Hdw. Co., was in our town yesterday looking over the field with a view of putting in a branch house. He was favorably impressed. The fellow who walked out of the courtroom last Saturday where the republican convention was being held, with Joe WEIR’s umbrella, is urged to return it to the post office. T.M. LYNCH is a new salesman and deliveryman at Campbell Bros. store, and starts off like he meant business. Since his promotion Dick WOODSON won’t hardly look old Pete in the face. Mrs. Bob BALLARD and Mrs. ARNHART were Afton shoppers Monday. Ethen VENICE left this week for Chouteau, to work for Crockett Bros. in the store. Mrs. Bert HOWARD left Sunday evening for her old home in Missouri to visit relatives. Miss Sybil CONNOLLY orders the News to her Aunt Mrs. Arrie DANNIELS at Oxford, Cali. Dr. Joe DONAHOO of Afton was in Fairland on professional business last Sunday evening. Miss Kathleen LINCOLN came down from Springfield last Friday to visit home folks, returning Monday. Dug HAPTON’s case was called in Justice TESTERMAN’s court last Monday but was very promptly dismissed for lack of evidence. Roy YOUNG left Monday for his old home at Oakville, Ky. Roy has been here a year and has made many friends who regretted to see him go. But, of course, he’ll come back sometime. Harry POYNTER of St. Joe, Mo., has purchased the barber shop in connection with Geo. MYERS’ pool hall. He holds a state certificate from Missouri which guarantees first class workmanship. Among some of the well known visitors at the Baptist meeting last week were: D.B. HOLLIS, wife and daughter of Wyandott, Roy T. WILLS and wife and Mary HARNESS of Miami, Frank HUBBARD of Afton. Also Rev. SMITH of Afton, Rev. CARMICHAL of Miami, Rev. PARKER of Vinita and Rev. LEACH of Grove. There were a number of others from these towns whose names we failed to obtain. A.L. MICKLEBERRY and Wm. HOWELL made a business trip to Independence yesterday.
