Friday, April 12, 1912 Drowned in Cistern The two year old child of Geo. W. HELMICK on Route 2 fell into a cistern, Wednesday and was drowned. The funeral services was held yesterday. –Miami Live Wire Bitten by Mad Dog The little 12 year old son of A.C. BAIRD living on Route 2 was bitten by a mad dog about three weeks ago. The little fellow was taken to Galena and the mad stone applied but it failed to do any good. The case developed from time to time and the first of the week, the victim became violent and in a condition of agony. Wednesday he was taken to Kansas City for treatment but word came back Tuesday night that death had claimed the little unfortunate soul. –Miami Live Wire. Uncle Tom Tomlinson Dead Uncle Tommy TOMLINSON, aged 72 years, died at his home on the south side yesterday, of old age and general disability. He was a well known citizen and had few if any enemies. His remains are being laid to rest in the city cemetery this afternoon. Grandma Weaver Dead Mrs. Mary WEAVER, aged 50, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Perry BEESON, east of town last Monday morning at 2 o’clock, of stomach trouble, followed by several weeks of suffering from rheumatism. Her body was embalmed and taken to Vinita for burial on Tuesday. The deceased had been a cripple for the past two years, not being able to walk. She was the mother of 8 children, all except one being present. Frank RANDALL, a brother, from Nowata, was also present. The relatives have the sympathy of the community. Meningitis at Afton Tom WEST, a young man died at Afton last Sunday night of what was pronounced by the physicians as meningitis. It is said that the young man had all the symptoms of the disease and much uneasiness is feared in this section of the country, for fear of its spreading. We hope the Doctors were wrong. Card of Thanks Mr. And Mrs. Perry BEESON ask us to say for them that they are very thankful for the assistence given them during the sickness and death of their mother by their many neighbors and friends, and take this method of expressing their gratefulness. Ely-Algrim At the Methodist Parsonage on last Sunday afternoon occured the marriage of Mr. Stephen V. ELY and Miss Cora ALGRIM. Rev. W.A. FRAZER officiating. Both are well known and highly respected young people living west of town, and both are of good families. The newly-weds have been sweethearts for some time and their union had been rather expected. The News joins in congratulations. Had Horse Stolen Hermon GREEN, living west of town had his horse taken from the hitch rack here in town last Sunday night and has heard nothing from it since. It was a bay pony mare, had on red saddle, fistula mark on top of neck, shoe on left front foot and branded with S on left shoulder. A liberal reward is offered. Building and Improving Miss Nell RYCROFT has begun the erection of a new cottage on the south side. John GOINS has started another new residence in the west part of town. M.J. CAMPBELL has four new houses contracted which when completed will be for rent. Rolland HILL has his new residence almost completed on West Conner. John CHAMBERS’ new residence on West Conner, is going up in a whoop. Joe WERTZ’s new residence is now completed and is occupied. The foundation for Joe WEIR’s new brick is in and the walls will now be whooped along. J.A. JONES began the erection of a new residence on the south side yesterday. Ned WALLEN has completed an addition to his residence in the west part of town. A.W. HARLIN’s new house in the east part of town is now completed. Dr. DEANS is putting in a new concrete walk in front of his office. Charley STELLE began the erection of a new residence last Monday morning, on the south side. N.C. GALLEMORE is going to have a basement under his new brick at the rear of the Odd Fellows’ hall. J.H. CONNOLLY has treated his residence to a new coat of paint. F.M. CONNER has torn down and moved out the old building near the Saints’ church, to make room for a nice 10 room residence. Caught a Bootlegger Deputy Sheriff FIELDS caught John HALEE last Monday night slipping in quite a quantity of booze. He escorted the gentleman to Miami, and the county authorities turned him over to Uncle Sam’s men. He had his preliminary hearing in commissioners court yesterday and was bound over in the sum of $500 bond, in default of which he was returned to jail. Local News Ike MASEREK is a new reader to the News. Mrs. MULLEN visited home folks at Wyandott over Sunday. S.T. TANNER orders the News to his son Frank, at Miles, Okla. Fred WARREN, wife and children of Todd, spent Easter with Mr. And Mrs. F.L. WARREN of this place. Miss Ella SPROUL of Muskogee spent Easter with her parents Mr. And Mrs. O.T. SPROUL south of town. Grandma LANDFORD returned to her home at Alton last Saturday, after a week’s visit with her daughter, Mrs. C.A. HAMMONDS. An infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Houston JAMES was brought here Sunday evening for burial. Mrs. JAMES, who was critically ill, is improving.
