Friday, April 28, 1911 THE COOLEY PRELIMINARY The News was in error in last week’s issue when it stated that Chas. COOLEY had waived preliminary examination. The preliminary had only been postponed, and was heard in Justice TESTERMAN’s court last Monday. He was charged with felonious assault on the person of Henry HALL. The prosecution was conducted by Judge FULKERSON, and W.D. MORSE looked after the interest of the defendant. When the evidence was all in, the court found him guilty of simple assault, and fixed his fine at $5.00 and costs. A complaint was also filed against COOLEY for carrying concealed weapons, to which he plead guilty, and was fined $25.00 and cost, which he paid. ANOTHER DRUG STORE Fairland is soon to have another drug store. Dr. SMITH has formed a partnership with Mr. R.M. FINKE of Quapaw, a young pharmacist, formerly of Miami, and they will open a stock of drugs in the Smith building. ATTENTION PUPILS Those entitled to Attendance Certificates may get the same from C.W. PRIER, and members of the Junior Agricultural Club may secure Certificates of membership from Zola NEWPORT. Members residing in Hudson Creek and Sulphur Bend districts may also receive these certificates. HUDSON CREEK Elsie BRICE called on Mrs. EADEN last Thursday. Frank and Julia ATCHINSON spent Sunday at W.C. JAMES. Mrs. Irv JAMES and sons visited Mrs. W.C. JAMES, Friday. Mrs. C. CONNER has been on the sick list the past few days. Letta and Tilda WINTERS called on Jessie and –etta JAMES, Monday. Mesdames BRIGGS and RAY, took dinner with Mrs. C. CONNER last Saturday. George and Elsie, and Cash and Letty, drove to Narcissa last Sunday afternoon. The little son of Jesse HUDSON who has been sick for several days, is reported worse. School closed last Friday and Miss BLEVENS returned to her home in Missouri, Monday. W.C. and L.D. JAMES are in the hills of Delaware county this week looking for land to buy. LOCAL NEWS J.A. CHERRY was a passenger west, Wednesday. Charley COOLY orders the News to his friend Ira HOOVER, Sanger, Cal. W.B. HILLEN is doing some improving on his property in north town. Rev. and Mrs. JONES have been visiting friends south of town this week. Curt HOUK has our thanks for a renewal. Mrs. CARLETT of Vinita will read the News from this time on. Wm. NUNAMAKER renews to keep the little home paper coming. Geo. RHONEBUS advances a dollar on the little home paper. F.M. CONNER and J.H. CONNOLLY left Monday for McAlester where they go to attend a meeting of the Mystrie Schrine and where Mr. CONNOLLY will take the 32nd degree in Masonry. BUILDING NOTES Fred WALKER and Tom GLISPI are making their homes look like brand new ones which improves the looks of West Conner very much. Work is progressing nicely on Clyde FREEMAN’s residence on West Conner. Clyde is going to have something different to anyone else. Houston JAMES big new residence in the north part of town is nearing completion and is a handsome addition to that part of the city. Material is being placed on the ground for Scott CAMPBELL’s new home he is building on East Conner. Scott will have a cosy house, of modern architecture. C.G. JAMES’ new residence will soon be ready for occupancy. This is the nicest and best home in our town and the people of the Southwest part of town are proud of it. WEDDING Rev. L.R. JONES officiated at a wedding at the parsonage last Sunday afternoon wherein Mr. Alva MILLER and Miss Frankie FONSE of Narcissa were happily joined in wedlock. The newlyweds left on the evening train for a wedding tour through Missouri.
