FREEMAN and wife will leave the first of next week to attend the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Grand Lodge meeting at Oklahoma City, as representatives of the Fairland lodges. At this meeting will occur the consolidation of the Indian Territory and Oklahoma jurisdictions, and the occasion promises to be one of the largest that has ever been held in Oklahoma City. BIRTHS Friends of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. McCUBBIN of Joplin, will be surprised to learn that they are the parents of a new girl baby at their home. LOCAL NEWS Mrs. J.S. CAMPBELL and children visited relatives at Pryor Creek the first of the week. Misses Sybil CONNOLLY and Lisle DUMAS visited at the AUDRAIN home on Hudson creek Sunday last. Miss Eula May NIDIFFER was an Afton visitor Tuesday. Wm. DOTY was over from Miami on business Tuesday. R.L. WOOD and Bert BOYD of Route 1 are new News boys. Wanted-A few music pupils. Will either give lessons here at home or go to the homes of pupils if in town. – Bettie BYRD Sherm BRADLEY and Bob NIDIFFER started to Miami last Sunday but they never got there. Charley JONES fixed the buggy up. Gus ALLEN and wife of Wynoka Okla., formerly of this place, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. BOWERS, Sunday. Sam NIDIFFER, L.D. FLINT and H.T. BOWEN went to Joplin on business Saturday evening. These parties have developed some good lead on a lease in Adair county. Hope they’ve struck something fine. Mrs. Cal JAMES and little daughter, Fanny, were shopping in Afton Tuesday. Mrs. BURGESS returned to her home at Pryor Creek, Monday, after a ten day’s visit with her daughter, Mrs. L.R. JONES. Rev. and Mrs. JONES, and J.E. McFARLAND attended the district conference of the M.E. church South at Miami the first of the week. Charley COOLEY and wife came in yesterday evening from Washington, to stay a few weeks. We acknowledge thanks for a great cracking big orange. Mrs. S.T. LINCOLN and Orville COLE attended the District Conference of the M.E. church South at Miami this week. Mrs. Scott CAMPBELL and baby are visiting the former’s parents in Kansas this week. Mr. and Mrs. SMITH of Cleoria were the guests of Mrs. Ten BROOK, Sunday last. Mrs. P.G. BARNES and baby of Afton, have been visiting relatives here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Auron ROBERTS are visiting his son Lum at Kas, Okla., this week. Price JAMES made a business trip to Newtown, Mo., this week. LONE STAR ITEMS Geo. HANDY is thinking of going to Arkansas this week. John MOORE and family visited Bert BOYD and family Saturday night and Sunday. Uncle Sam WOOD came through this neighborhood on a visit the other day. Don’t know what was his hurry. Mr. Bill FINDLEY is prospecting we think on John HILL’s farm. We saw him sinking a shaft but don’t know what for. Maybe water.
