Fairland News, Fairland, Ottawa County, Oklahoma. Friday, June 16, 1911 NANCE-LAMAR John NANCE and Miss Mildred LAMAR stole a march on their friends last Monday, drove to Miami, secured a Marriage license and back to the home of Rev. Harve WESTON, where they were quietly married. They are both well known young people in this community and will soon go to house keeping in Fairland. Mr. NANCE expects to build a residence soon in the south part of town. May peace, happiness and prosperity be theirs. DEATHS The little infant of Mr. and Mrs. Y.E. They kicked in the door and rushed in and found an overcoat belonging to Ed BEESON, a clerk, which was laying on a barrel of coffee, in flames. The staves of the barrel had just begun to ignite. In a few minutes the fire would have been into a stack of flour. Luckily it was discovered in time and maybe a whole business block or more saved from destruction. COUNTY ASSESSOR APPOINTED H.O. BLAND of Afton, has been appointed County Assessor by Gov. CRUCE. The appointment is not at all satisfactory with a great many, because no one expects Harsy to do the work. Of course he will have it done, but why was not the place given to some man who needed it, and who would have performed the work himself. But—oh well, what’s the use. A THREE YEARS SENTENCE After a week of deliberation, Judge DAVIS this afternoon announced his decision that Judge BROWN had not given Tibbets BRAUGHT his liberty after BRAUGT [sic] had plead guilty to a charge of cattle stealing. Judge DAVIS sentenced BRAUGHT to three years at the state reformatory, at Granite. Notice of appeal was given by the counsel for the defendant. –Vinita Chieftain.
