BABB, living with her husband and family seven miles southeast of town, had a stroke of paralysis last Thursday forenoon, while in the vineyard near the house. She was found soon after and a doctor sent for, but she never rallied, and died in a few hours. Her funeral was preached at the Methodist church on yesterday at 11 a.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. JONES. She leaves several children. Mr. BABB and family moved to this country from North Missouri last spring and the blow is a sad and hard one for him. Interment was made in the Fairland cemetery. DEATH Opal, the 7 yr. old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. ENGLAND, living 4 miles east of town, died on Tuesday morning about 1 a.m. after a very brief illness. Four doctors were called and did all in their power to save the little life, but to no avail. A short funeral service was held at the city cemetery conducted by Rev. Harvey WESTON, at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. We extend profound sympathies to the bereaved parents. BROKE HIS ARM While playing in a persimmon tree near town last Monday, Sammy MAY, aged 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam MAY, fell from the tree and broke his left arm just above the wrist. He is getting along all right now. CARD OF THANKS Mr. and Mrs. J.F. ENGLAND requests the News to say for them that they sincerely appreciate the many acts of kindness bestowed upon them during their late misfortune and heartily extend all their thanks for the same. LOCAL NEWS Mrs. Mickey McCUTCHEN, of Garfield, Ark., is visiting her brothers F.R. and W.A. DEANS and families this week. The scaffolding on the Harlin building fell last Tuesday and Fred WALKER sustained some pretty bad bruises but Fred is too tough for a little thing like that to get him down. Eld J.T. RILEY left Monday to resume his ministerial work in Arkansas. Bige CHANDLER and wife, Suel MILBOURN, Miss Toncie FINDLEY, Fred PENNINGTON and Miss Josie ROUTON, all were Seneca visitors Sunday. Dr. LAMONS is enjoying a visit from a daughter from Texas, whom he had not seen or heard from in twenty years and whom he supposed dead. E.W. GALLEMORE has moved from Oseuma to our town, and is showing evidence of becoming a first class dude. You needn’t be surprised to see him trying to roll a cigarette or whistling "Casey Jones." L.D. and Charley DARNELL had on exhibition on our streets last Monday a mammoth turtle which they captured at the mouth of Hudson Creek. His majesty measured 3 feet 2 inches from his mouth to the end of his tail. His body measured 14X19 inches, and he weighed a little over 50 pounds. Its head was about 6 inches in diameter. Everybody said it was the largest they ever saw. J.H. OVERAKER hands over a big eagle to keep the News coming. Isaac NIDIFFER was over from Grove this week. He enrolled for the News while here. Frank SHOCKLY and Tom ELLIOTT were in Miami Wednesday. Did you "git um" boys? Miss Anna BYRD left Wednesday to accept a position in the Normal at Tahlequah. Mrs. S.T. LINCOLN is entertaining her Sunday School class of little girls on her lawn today. J.R. SMALL of Gainesville, Mo., has been visiting Y.E. McCLENDON this week. Hybert POLLARD, who has been attending Bacone Academy at Muskogee, is visiting friends in Fairland this week. Mrs. ELLIOTT and daughter, Katie, is visiting this week in North Missouri. John cooks the meals, Jim washes the dishes and Tom makes the beds, while their Ma is away.
