Berry Jr. 1921-2005 MIAMI, Okla. – Robert A. Berry entered in his heavenly home on Monday, April 18 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 7, 1921 on a farm near Grove, Oklahoma to the late Robert A. Berry Sr. and Wilmuth Walker Berry. He married Lonelle Mayfield in 1942. To this union were born two daughters, Betty Bob and Suzette, and one son, Jim. He was preceded in death by his wife Lonelle of 53 years, his parents, and two brothers, Jim and Jeff Berry. Survivors include his wife of seven years, Virginia Gouge Painter Berry of Miami; one brother, Joe Berry of Grove; one sister, Mary Jane Reed of Grove; two daughters, Betty Bob Posey and husband Tom of Plano, Texas, and Suzanne Hutchison and husband Dennis of Yukon, Oklahoma; one son, Jim Berry of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jamie Pena, Lisa Shanks, Justin and Kaya Bay Berry, Dusty and Dillon Edge, and Brandon and Marci Huchison; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. Berry accepted Christ into his life in 1943. He was ordained a Baptist Deacon in 1954 and served four different churches. He also taught Youth Sunday School and Training Union for many years. He graduated from Grove High School in 1940 and was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1950, where he was president of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was a loving, generous, caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Miami with Rev. Gerald Dyer officiating. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Internment will be at Olympus Cemetery in Grove, and the American Legion Post #147 Funeral Detail will conduct military rites. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church, Miami, Oklahoma, in care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
