From the age of 10 until her death on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, Cloe Jean Christensen lived in Kings County, was married to Dr. Lloyd F. Christensen for 62 years, had two children, Jo Ann and Lloyd F. (Chris) Christensen Jr., a daughter-in-law, Donna Christensen, and a son-in-law, Robert Parrott. Added to that were three adored grandchildren, Eric, Caitlin and Hannah Christensen. Her brother-in- law, Jack Christensen, remembers her as more than a sister-in-law but as an especially sweet sister. Cloe Jean was born in Miami, Okla., on February 23, 1921 to Stephen and Edna Collier. The oldest of four girls, she is survived by June Eklund of San Juan Capistrano, Carol Inglis of Fresno and was preceded in death by Wanda Maurer. Her loss is felt deeply by them. She was the first of the family to graduate from college (Fresno State, 1942) and became a teacher. Her first financial investment was a small, used, brown Studebaker, with overdrive, which overheated when driving up almost any hill. She carried lots of water in that car and learned about the care and feeding of radiators. Although she was happiest being a wife, mother, and grandmother, she also had great organizational skills and put them to use. She served the community on the Grand Jury; as a member and president of the PTA and the American Association of University Women; a founding member of an investment club and she was an avid bridge player. Being the wife of a physician meant she frequently had to stand in for her husband, Lloyd. There were lots of dinner parties which Cloe Jean and Lloyd gave where he had to leave on an emergency and she played the dual roles of host and hostess. Cloe Jean and Lloyd traveled extensively. They especially enjoyed cruises and always focused on the art of wherever they traveled. Their favorite cruise was the one they took with their family to Alaska to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Until her death of a massive brain hemorrhage on the night of June 6th, she maintained a positive attitude and was always a joy to be around. She wanted to be remembered for the love she had for family and friends. The Memorial Service for Cloe Jean was held today at 11:30 a.m., at the Church of the Savior, 519 N. Douty St., in Hanford. A luncheon followed. Interment will be private. Remembrances may be sent to the Church of the Savior, 519 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA 93230 or the Kings Art Center, 605 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA 93230. Arrangements are under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel in Hanford.
