Scott KS The Grove Sun Daily Richard Lee Collard 1948-2005 MIAMI, Okla. - Richard Lee Collard, resident of rural Fairland, died at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, Thursday, January 6, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He was 56. Richard was born April 13, 1948, at Denver, Colo., to Jack and Patsy Grayson Collard. He was a descendent of the Creek Nation. He enlisted in the USMC in 1965, and served in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Campaign, and Marksman’s Badge. He was honorably discharged. He had worked at various jobs, with his last place of employment being at the Miami Country Club, working as a groundskeeper. He moved to Fairland from Miami in September, 2004. His beliefs were that of the Native American. He married Vickie White on April 12, 1992, at West Plains, Mo. Survivors include: wife, Vickie White of the home; a step-father, Jess Seabolt, of Jennings, Okla.; a son, Daniel and his wife, Melissa of Owasso, Okla.; three daughters, April Hall and husband, Junior of Stillwater, Okla., Jennifer Swinehart and husband, Larry of Carthage, Mo., and Tabitha Schultz and her husband, Michael of Bluejacket, Okla.; five sisters, Patsy Cutler of Blackwell, Okla., Kathy Melton of OKC, Okla., Jessica Woodward of Drumright, Okla., Jody Taulman of Jennings, Okla., and Sylvia Fox of Cushing, Okla.; and 12 grandchildren. A Graveside service was conducted in Ft. Scott National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kan., on Monday, January 10, 2005 at 2:30 p.m., with Cam Redwing and Geoff Buffalo officiating. Members of the USMC will perform military rites, with burial following.
