She was born on July 26, 1925 in Picher, Oklahoma to Virgil and Delia Mae Dennis Thornton and raised in Greenwood, Arkansas where she was “Miss Greenwood” and “Homecoming Queen”. She married Clarence Hudspeth in 1943 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma and lived in the Lindsay area for 47 years. Helen received Christ as her personal savior 54 years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Garden Club and Book Club. She enjoyed doing needle work, reading, playing bridge and most of all spending time with her family. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Steve Hudspeth, and one brother, Virgil Thornton, Jr., and one sister, Jonnie Turner. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Hudspeth, one daughter, Sherry Scammahorn and husband, Gene, three sisters, Peggy Carol Willhite, Patsy Curts, Ramona Gaddy and one brother, Roy Thornton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristi Rushing and husband Dan, Scott Scammahorn and wife Kamala, Tamara Clemins and husband Dave, Tara Fiddler and husband David, and five great grandchildren, Taylor May, Ashley Clemins, Ashley Scammahorn, Hunter Scammahorn and Tyler Scammahorn. Services for Helen will be held at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Green Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of B. G. Boydston Funeral Home.
