All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sebastopol Memorial Lawn Cemetery--Sebastopol CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on September 24, 1996 ARTHUR KEOPKE Arthur Keopke, who retired in 1982 after working as a self-employed Sheetrock finisher for more than 30 years, died of emphysema Thursday in his Sebastopol home. He was 76. He was born in Zincville, Okla., but grew up in Joplin, Mo. Keopke worked in sawmills, sorghum mills, and a lead and zinc mine in Missouri before moving to California in 1943. In Sebastopol, he first worked as a machinery mechanic for Stokeley Foods and the Sebastopol Cooperative Cannery. He also began working part time with Sheetrock before devoting the rest of his working years to Sheetrock finishing. Keopke felt there was no other fishing than for catfish. "He didn't consider a trout worth keeping," said his wife, June Keopke of Sebastopol. He enjoyed camping, travel and square dancing. He also was a handyman and liked to work in arts and crafts. He and his wife were members of the Saucy Squares and other square dancing groups for about 10 years. In his early years in Sebastopol, he broke horses and was a member of the Sebastopol Wranglers. Besides his wife, Keopke is survived by his daughters, Juanita Russell and Barbara, both of Santa Rosa; sons, Ronald Keopke and Donald Keopke; a stepson, Robert Crone of Sebastopol; sisters, Iva Cupp of Eugene, Ore., Alma Morgan of Glenville, Ga., Frieda Lee of Sonoma, Violet Lewis and Pinkie Bryant, both of Sebastopol; brother, Virgil Keopke of Sebastopol; numerous grandchildren; and great- grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Sebastopol. Burial will be at Sebastopol Memorial Lawn.
