Marion Slightom Marion Virgil Slightom was born June 28, 1931, to Samuel and Nina Slightom in Afton, Okla. Marion grew up in Kansas and moved to California in 1950. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. Aug. 9, 1952, he married Ruby Henman in Gardenia, Calif. In 1956 they moved to Chico and Marion attended Chico State. Marion owned and operated a trucking and farming business with his sons. He stayed active during harvest after his retirement. Marion enjoyed the family cabin in Butte Meadows, riding snowmobiles and 4- wheeling. Gardening and sharing it with his family and friends gave him great pleasure. Marion will be most remembered for his home cooked meals always shared by many family and friends. He was a member of Gideon's Int. and First Assembly of God Church for 37 years. Marion went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family. Those that are left to miss him include his wife of 54 years, Ruby, three sons, David Randy (Kathy), Kim (Debbie), Ron (Shelly), six grand kids, Tina (Greg) Bicknell, Travis (Kim), Tim, Jason (Amber), Savanna and Jenessa Slightom, three great-grand kids, Sierra, Trae and Trevor, his mother Nina, two brothers, Sam and Jim and a sister Betty. He was preceded in death by his father Sam and a granddaughter Makenzie. A Celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5­8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Memorial Donations may be made to either the Gideon's or American Cancer Society in care of the Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home.
