January 1902 A Double Wedding On Sunday the 26, January, 1902 Mr. Frank H. Roper and Miss Nettie Staten, and Mr. John E. Merriss and Miss Sadie Walker were united in marriage, Rev. Willis F. Juordan officiating. The two couples were married in one ceremony, at the front gate of Mr. G. F. Miller's house. They were not run away matches. The young people were romantic and wished to be married in their buggies on the river bank; but the minister not wishing to go so far from a comfortable fire so cold a day, they compromised by sitting in their buggies at the front gate.
