Johnston, who live just north of Pawnee and who have a farm south-east of town. In the Johnston family are five sons and three daughters. The three sons who are in the service are Calvin R., Carl Raymond, and Kenneth. The daughters are Mrs. Carl Cather, Oatman, Ariz.; Mrs. Frank Pensfield, Oakland, Cal.; and Rachel of the home address. The sons who are not in the service are Merle and Marion, both of Pawnee. Calvin R. Johnston was born during that other World War on June 28, 1917, near Glencoe. He attended the Pawnee grade and high school and was graduated with the class of 1935. Soon after completing high school he enlisted in the regular army and served three years. After receiving his discharge from the service he returned to Pawnee. He enlisted in Co. B, 179th Infantry, National Guard, and served from 1939 to 1940. The National Guard was called into federal service and he reinlisted for one year and has been in the service since. He is a sergeant and is stationed at Camp Devens, Mass. His address is A.P.O. 45 care Postmaster, New York, which may mean anything. He is married and his wife, Mrs. Ruby Johnston and their two daughters, Calmina Jean and Mary Elizabeth, anxiously await his safe return. Carl Raymond Johnston was born near Pawnee Oct. 6, 1920; attended the Pawnee grade school and high school and graduated with the class of 1938. He enlisted Sept 10, 1938, in Co. B, 179 infantry, National Guard, and was called into the federal service in September, 1940. He too, is a sergeant, is with the same company as his brother, Calvin, and had the same address. He is married, his wife being Betty Hamon Johnston of Skedee. Kenneth Johnston was born near Pawnee Dec. 14, 1921. He received his schooling in the Pawnee grade and high school. About two years ago he enlisted in Co. F, 38th Infantry, regular army, and is serving with that organization as a private, first class, now. Prior to enlisting in the regular army he had served two years with the National Guard. He is not married.
