Visitation: September 14, 2002 Service: September 16, 2002 Cemetery: Woodland Cemetery [Photos online] J.C. Bivin, 85 died Wednesday, 11 September 2002, in Stroud, Oklahoma, following a long illness. He was born 30 June 1917 , Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, to Jessie Keeth and Charles Sanford Bivin. Services were held Monday, 16 September, at the First Christian Church in Stroud with interment in Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, Oklahoma. Arrangements were entrusted to Chapman-Black Funeral Home of Cleveland. In lieu of flowers friends are contributing to the Stroud Regional Medical Center Foundation. J.C. graduated in 1938 from Cleveland High School, where he played football and was an outstanding wrestler. He married his high school sweetheart, Lurene Rose, 19 April 1938. He was employed in 1938 by Johnson Oil Company of Cleveland, which was later purchased by Kerr-McGee Corporation. He participated in every phase of the pipeline industry and rose to the position of District Superintendent. He was transferred to Drumright in 1958. He resigned from Kerr-McGee in 1963 to form his own business, which he operated for twenty years before retiring. Mr. Bivin was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland and an active member of the Drumright Rotary Club, serving as Secretary, Vice-President and President in the years 1967 through 1970. He was a member of the City Commission of Drumright and was proudly involved in the construction of the Drumright Memorial Hospital. J.C. was an expert horseman and won the World Palomino Cutting Show at the age of 71. After retirement, he taught three horsemanship classes each summer to Boy Scouts. He was a real hero to every boy who passed through Will Rogers Scout Reservation located West of Cleveland. He served as deacon and an elder of the First Christian Church of Drumright and at the time of his death was a member of the First Christian Church of Stroud. J.C. Bivin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lurene; four sons, David Bivin and his wife, Josa, of Jerusalem, Israel, Steve Bivin and his wife, Julie, of Stroud, Stan Bivin and his wife, Susie, of Ponca City, Phil Bivin and his wife, Martha, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and seven grandchildren with the birth name of Bivin; Natan Jason, Amy, Brian, Jeremy, Lori, and Ryan. His three great-grandchildren are also named Bivin: Kai, Jacey (his namesake), and Aviad. The family has now grown to include Tammy Bivin (Mrs. Jeremy), Jennifer Bivin (Mrs. Brian), Capt. Daniel Brings (Amy), and Liat Bivin (Mrs. Natan). J.C. leaves a rich legacy, as it is said, “A man’s legacy is in the deeds of his children.”
