Visitation: January 20, 2003 Service: January 21, 2003 Cemetery: Woodland Cemetery Gladys Cheek was born February 25, 1908 in Caney, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles and Daisy Walker. She moved with her family to Cleveland, Oklahoma at an early age and her mother passed away when Gladys was ten in November of 1918. Gladys was raised and attended school in Cleveland through the tenth grade. Gladys was married to Orlyn Vern Cheek on November 14, 1926 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple raised their two daughters, Jean and Mary, here in Cleveland. Gladys was a loving wife and mother devoting her life to the care of her husband and children. She enjoyed reading and embroidering. Gladys was a faithful and longtime member of the First Christen Church, joining in 1926. Orlyn preceded her in death on November 6, 1984 after nearly fifty-eight years of marriage. Gladys continued to reside in Cleveland after the death of her husband until she moved to Parker, Colorado several years ago to be near her daughter. She passed away on Friday, January 18, 2003 at the Hospice Care Center in Aurora, Colorado at the age of ninety-four years, ten months and twenty-two days. In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Ercel Walker and three grandchildren, Mary Jeanette Webber, Stacy and Rick Soto. Gladys is survived by two daughters, Jean Webber of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Soto of Parker, Colorado; a sisters, Carmen Gwin of Moore, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the First Christian Church in Cleveland with Dakota Rush officiating.
