McSorley, 87, a life long resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma was born July 10, 1914 in Rowe, Oklahoma to William Edward and Nancy Emaline (Martin) Collins and passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2002, a week short of her eighty-eighth birthday. Opal grew up in the dog-center-road area where she attended a one room school house until the sixth grade when she began attending the Cleveland schools. She later graduated high school from Cleveland at the age of sixteen and worked for some time as a waitress at Gilson's Cafe in Cleveland. Opal was united in marriage to Lester McSorley and four children were born to the union which ended in divorce after ten years. In 1947 Opal accepted employment with the First National Bank of Cleveland in 1947. She was promoted to all of the different positions and retired in 1980 as Vice President and Treasurer. During her tenure at the bank, Opal was active with her co-worker in the bowling League at the Hominy (Oklahoma) Bowling Alley. After her retirement, Opal continued to bowl until the late 1980s. Opal stayed active sewing for people in town as well as doing their accounting and tax returns, was an active golfer at Keystone Golf Club, loved sewing, needle work, reading historical novels, playing cards (especially pinochle), solving mind games and playing dominoes. People would say that Opal was very competitive in her hobbies and a very independent person. Her proudest achievement was rearing her four children and sending them to college. Opal passed away at Saint Simeon's in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months and twenty-three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clint, Claude and Lloyd and sister, Gladys. Opal is survived by her children, Jack and wife, Leah McSorley and Jean and husband, Don Paul all of Tulsa, Keith and wife, Tommie McSorley of Brenham, Texas and Mike and wife, Mary Lea McSorley of Charleston, South Carolina; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were held July 6, 2002 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
