Nellis Killed George W. Nellis, superintendent and special agent of the Pawnee Indians, was accidentally killed about 8:30 o’clock last Saturday morning by an accidental discharge of a shot gun that he was hunting rabbits with. The accident happened near his residence at the Indian agency, and the body was found soon afterward by T.L. Birchard, a brother-in-law. When found the body was lying by the side of a wire fence, face down, one trouser leg torn and still caught on the wire, and the gun under the head which was completely shattered, causing death instantly. Mr. Nellis had been superintendent and special disbursing agent at the Pawnee agency for nearly ten years, was loved and highly respected by all who knew him, and has done more toward making the Pawnee Indians self supporting in that time than any of his predecessors.
