Miller, was born October 27, 1918 in Mitchell County, Kansas to Roy Nelson and Mary Ellen (Peden) Oakley. Evelyn was raised and received her education in Glen Elder where she also graduating from high school. Shortly after high school she worked helping a lady in Glen Elder where she cooked and cleaned at her home. On September 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Carl Miller at Holdredge, Nebraska. They then moved to Washington State looking for work. Evelyn and Kenneth later returned to Omaha, Nebraska. In 1946 they then moved to Osborne, Kansas. While residing in Osborne Evelyn worked at the school cafeteria as a cook as well as a receptionist for Dr. Cornelly and Dr. V. She was also employed in the county treasures office. In 1998 Evelyn moved Cleveland to be near her daughter and has lived here since. Evelyn enjoyed flowers and working word search puzzles she was also a member of the Christian Church and a former member of the Garden Club. Evelyn passed away August 5, 2002 at her home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years 9 months and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her parent sand her husband Kenneth on July 22, 1998. Survived by her children, Patty of Silver Springs, Maryland; Marla and her husband Don of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters, Ava Akins of Austin, Texas; Fern Lund of Glen Elder, Kansas; three grandchildren, Kim and her husband Randy Ball of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Mike Chapman of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Kevin Chapman of Cleveland, Oklahoma as well as seven Great Grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 10:00 am at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with services officiated by Dick Rush. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. Family has requested that donations be made to the Vista Care Hospice at 4325 E. 51st Street, Suite 103 in Tulsa, Oklahoma 74135 Attn: Lynda.
