Visitation: August 12, 2002 Service: August 13, 2002 Cemetery: Woodland Cemetery Vera Margaret Constant was born September 23, 1930 in Dallas County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leslie F. and Hazel W. Hodges. Margaret was raised on farms in rural Iowa and attended school while working on these farms with her family. Upon completion of her schooling, Margaret continued to work on the farm but also worked in various jobs for the next few years including dry good sales and as a waitress. In 1954 she moved to California where she met Cecil Roy Constant, Jr. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada in August of 1955. The couple resided in Arcadia, California before returning to Iowa in 1958. The couple spent only a short time in Iowa before moving to several locations before settling in Lakeland, Florida where they raised their four children: James (deceased), Jeff, Jaye and Jennifer. After the death of her husband in 1974, Margaret worked as a sales clerk for Woolworth Department Store in Lakeland for a few years before moving to Madrid, Iowa to assist in the care of her mother. Taking care of family was always of paramount concern to Margaret. Upon the death of her mother, Margaret moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma to be near her son and remained there until for health reasons she moved to Tulsa in 2001. Margaret dedicated her life to being a loving wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and her faithfulness and loving ways continued throughout her life. She considered her life a blessing to have been given the precious love of her children and two beloved grandsons, Jordan and Jantzen. Margaret was a three time cancer survivor and her strong desire to live was driven by the love of her children and grandsons. Her life revolved around the special bond she had created with Jordan and Jantzen. Margaret was a member of the Assembly of God faith and enjoyed gardening and reading. Margaret passed away on Friday, August 9, 2002 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of seventy-one years, ten months and sixteen days. In addition to her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Matthew Constant; four sisters, Helen, Pauline, Dorothy and Carol; and three brothers, Elston, Charles and Leland. Margaret is survived by two sons, Jeffrey D. Constant, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jaye L. Constant, Lakeland, Florida; daughter and her husband, Jennifer W. Constant and Johnny Roe, Cleveland, Oklahoma; two beloved grandsons, Jordan L. Constant, Cleveland, Oklahoma and Jantzen C. Roe, Cleveland, Oklahoma; three brothers and their spouses, Harold and Elva Hodges, Indiana, Lloyd and Harriet Hodges, Iowa, Ronald and Sheryl Hodges, Iowa; two sisters and their spouses, Mary and Jim Whitaker, Arizona and Jeanne and Bob Mabe, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Phyllis Hodges, Iowa and Verva Hodges of Iowa; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Chapel of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
