Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Marshall Lions' Cemetery South in Marshall under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Arnold was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Marshall. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1929 and from Oklahoma A&M with a degree in home economics in 1933. In 1935, she married Elmer Dean Phillips, who had two children with his first wife, who predeceased him. Arnold and her husband had four children. He died in 1972. Friend worked as a home demonstration agent and director of women's work in the WPA in Creek County. She also taught home economics in Creek County until moving to Stillwater in 1939, when her husband purchased Tiger Drug. He owned the drug store for 30 years. Mrs. Phillips married Robert A. Arnold in 1973. He died in 1993. She was very active in First United Methodist Church and served as president of the women's group on both the local and district levels. She also held numerous other offices. She taught Sunday school for more than 20 years and lived in her home in Stillwater for 40 years. She loved her family, her home and life. In addition to two husbands, she was predeceased by one step-daughter, Kay; two children who died at birth, Paul and Carol; and one sister, Alma Friend. She is survived by one step-son, Bill Phillips of Tyler, Texas; two children, Dr. Robert Phillips and his wife, Vicki, and Lou Salyer and her husband, Ben, all of Stillwater; six grandchildren, Gary Phillips of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Mike Phillips of Tyler, Texas, Ingrid Hendrix of Portland, Ore., and Josh Hendrix, Chris Phillips and Brandon Phillips, all of Stillwater; one brother, Dr. Jonathan Friend of Stillwater; and four sisters, Bernice Walker of Stillwater, Cecilia Hay of Salem, Ore., Beata Hudson of Denver, Colo., and Leta Willhouse of Brownsberg, Ind.
