I have added and corrected information that was or should have been included, Bill Cook, 7/13/2002 ARMY SERGEANT DIES IN JAPAN SFC Marion P. Cook who was stationed in Japan with the U.S. Armed Forces died Tuesday of pnuemonia, according word received here. (Actually the hospital punctured an artery while trying to relieve him choking from a toothpick in a piece of Cake he had swallowed) Marion was born in Tahlequah, Cherokee Co. OK., May 26, 1939 to Samuel Wilbur and Rosa (Hancock) Cook. The family moved to Stillwater, Payne Co. OK in about 1943. Marion attended all of his schooling in Stillwater, Payne Co. OK. and lived there until he went into the Air Force in 1957. Marion had been in the Armed Forces 11 years, with 21 months of that time in Vietnam, three years in Italy, and a previous three years in Japan. Sergeant Cook had been stationed in Japan 13 months prior to his death on this tour of duty. Surviving him are his wife Beverly (Porter) and children Leah Rinalda Cook (now Blevins) age 3, and son Harold Dean Cook (Now Brown) 22 months of age, who are presently living in Japan with Marion, his mother Rosa (Hancock) Cook of Ponca City, OK. three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Sims Akins, of Enid OK., Ruth Ann White of Sylmar, California, and Mrs. Betty Tautfest of Ponca City, OK and six brothers, Sam W. Cook, Jr. of Miami, OK, Murriel Leo Cook of Louisville, KY., Sgt. Donald Rae Cook of Ft. Leonardwood Missouri, Carl Eugene Cook of Stillwater, presently in Louisville, KY. William Arthur "Bill" Cook of Carson City, Nevada (the obit said Colorado)and Charles Luther Cook of Stillwater Ok., currently in Germany with the US Army. Marion was buried at Fort Gibson National Military cemetery, in Fort Gibson, OK. with full military honors.
