Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway, Fort Worth, Dr. Brett Younger and the Rev. Joreen Swift officiating. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Private family interment in Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: The music ministry of Broadway Baptist Church. Howard was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Cushing, Okla. He married Virginia "Ginger" Bell in Hollis, Okla., on Aug. 17, 1968. To their union were born five children, Christopher Robert, Ben David, Sara Lacey, Rebecca Joy and John Howard. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a bachelor of church music degree in 1971, and attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary. Howard trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and felt his calling into full-time Christian work at an early age. He served as minister of music, education and youth at churches across Oklahoma for 10 years; however, his most significant contributions to ministry began when he entered the field of stewardship development for churches in 1975. In 1978, he became the first director and vice president of the church division of Cargill Associates, Inc., a national fund-raising consulting firm, based in Fort Worth. In 1986, he became president of Cargill Associates Pacific, Inc., a sister company, concentrating first on Australia and later in the western United States. Together, the companies have assisted over 8,000 churches and 700 institutions in their fund- raising programs in the 50 United States and four other countries. He has led capital campaigns for churches from more than 50 different denominations and considered himself a minister of stewardship. Howard was literally a pioneer in the field of church stewardship development. When he began his ministry in 1975, there were no more than a handful across the country who were qualified to provide this service. As a significant part of his legacy, hundreds of professional stewardship consultants and companies have mentored from Howard's successful work. He set a good example in his own giving and in faithful churchmanship. He was devoted to his family, his fellow workers in this ministry and the hundred of churches he personally served. He was a faithful member of Coast Hills Community Church, Aliso Viejo, Calif. Survivors: His wife, Ginger of the home; children, Chris, San Clemente, Calif., Ben, Sacramento, Calif., Sara, Rebecca and John of the home; his parents, Robert and Sara Lou Cargill of Fort Worth; a brother, Stephen Cargill and his wife, Ramona, of Fort Worth; a sister, Sara Beth Lee and her husband, John, of Little Rock, Ark.; grandmothers, Thelma Young and Lucille Cargill of Cushing, Okla.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
