Godsy was born on June 3, 1921 and passed away on Nov. 12, 2004, at the age of 83. He was the oldest of four boys born to Dave E. Godsy and Martha Brown Godsy who resided in Quay, Oklahoma. Don's family moved to OKC in 1930. As a child, he joined the Bodine Baptist Church. He attended Shields Heights grade school, Capitol Hill Jr. High, and graduated from Capitol Hill High school in 1940. He participated in many track and field events for the CHHS Redskins and helped his team win a mid-state track championship. He was a member of the Capitol Hill Athletes Association. On Sept. 7, 1940 he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Schmidt. They were happily married for 64 years. He was a devoted husband to 'Ruthie' and a loving father to daughter, Connie. Don was employed by Cities Service Oil Co. for 40 years. He worked in many different areas of the oil business and retired in 1982 as an accounting supervisor. He was a World War II veteran who served his country in the Coast Guard and saw action on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Over the years Don was an avid sportsman. He also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking projects. He took pride in making his yard and lawn look its best and spent many peaceful hours sitting on the patio with his beloved pet dog, Mitzi. At the time of his death he belonged to the Taylor Park Neighborhood Association and regularly did his 'patrol duty'. Don was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother 'Dan'. He is survived by his wife, Ruthie and daughter, Connie Godsy, two brothers, Dave and Doss Godsy all of OKC. Don's family will be available to receive family and friends Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Vondel Smith Funeral Home, 6934 S. Western. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 with burial to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. We will always and forever love our 'Daddy Don'.
