The son of the late Verl C. Harper and Bernedene O. Moore, Verl was born on July 13, 1930 in Stillwater, Okla. He was reared and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School. He was united in marriage to Joan Myers on Dec. 4, 1948 in the First Christian Church of Cushing. The Harper's moved from Cushing in 1962. Verl was an oil field worker, retiring from Albemarle Corporation, was a mason and a member of the Free and Accepted Mason's #446 in Macedonia, Ark. Survivors include his wife Joan of the home; one daughter, Janet Blocker and her fiancé Doug Halfhill of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, Michael Harper and his wife Linda of Witcherville, Ark.; one brother, Charles Harper and wife Shirley of Drumright; one sister, Sue Adams and her husband Mike of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Erick Blocker of Parachute, Colo., Heather Brown and husband Ricky of Peoria, Okla., Chris Harper of Witcherville, Ark. and Wren Harper of Fort Smith, Ark.; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Apr. 20, 2007 in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing, Okla. with Dr. Larry Haney officiating.
