Johnson passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2005 of complications from a broken hip. Juanita was always full of humor, even joking on the way to the O.R. Juanita was born on December 22, 1915, in Cushing, Oklahoma, graduated from Oklahoma State University and lived most of her life in Lamar, Colorado, where she and her husband Harlan raised two daughters, Peggy and Paula. She enjoyed her years teaching music at Lincoln Elementary School in Lamar, and she spent many happy times on the golf course and at the bridge table. Known as "Big Mama", Juanita moved to Tucson in 1996. She will be remembered for her mischievous smile and sly wit and her devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren. A voracious reader, she had a keen interest in the world around her, a passion for Wildcat basketball and her ever-present crossword puzzles. Juanita is survived by her Tucson family, daughter Peggy, grandchildren J.J. and Jennifer Giddings and son-in-law Joe F. Tarver. She is also survived by her Houston family, daughter Paula Tolbert, grandson Blake and son-in-law Gary. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patty and her husband Harlan. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Tucson Cinema Foundation and The Loft Cinema (3233 E. Speedway, Tucson, 85716), which was a source of great joy and pride for Juanita. A celebration of her life will be held in Tucson at a time to be announced by the family. Burial will take place in Lamar, Colorado. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Payne County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/payne/payne.html
