All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Portales Cemetery--Portales NM Lee, James Woodrow James Woodrow Lee, 90, of Stillwater, Okla., and formerly of Portales, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, in Stillwater. He was born Sept. 30, 1916, to Ad and Grace Lee, early settlers in the Redlake Community, South of Portales. The family moved to Portales in 1925, where he attended and graduated from Portales High School. On March 18, 1939, Woodrow married Marie Briggs, of Portales. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was seriously injured by enemy fire while repairing communication lines in Germany. He received the Purple Heart among other medals. After a lengthy recuperation he attended college on the GI bill and returned to Portales. He worked at the local Casing Plant as an accountant until his retirement. He was also a bookkeeper for Steve Dean's auto repair shop for a number of years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales. In late 2001, Woodrow and Marie moved to Stillwater, Okla., to be near their medical doctors and a niece, Judy Hasik. His beloved wife died in Stillwater, on Feb. 19, 2002. His parents; his wife; four brothers, Harry, Raymond, Gordon and Donald; and three sisters, Gertrude Counts, Doris Martin and Lanell Jones, preceded Mr. Lee in death. Survivors include two sisters, Ila Faye Widener and Ruth Widener- Morin, both of Portales; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews who will always remember "Uncle Woody". A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Portales on Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at 11 a.m. He will be buried next to his wife in the Portales Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, Box 629, Portales, NM, or, to Calvary Baptist Church, 1101 W. 18th, Portales, NM 88130.
