All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== HENRY MITCHELL Henry Mitchell, 78, resident of Payne county since 1911, died at his home, 1108 Lewis, Thursday morning. He was the father-in-law of Mayor L.E. McConkey. Services will be held in the Strode Funeral chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Homer Falstick in charge. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mitchell was born in Jewell; Iowa, October 13, 1869, the son of Jacob and Bertha Mitchell. He was married in Dedham, Iowa, March 4, 1894. The couple lived in Dedham following their marriage. In 1898 they came to Oklahoma County, 15 miles northwest of the capitol. In 1911 they moved to Payne County and settled near Mehan. Mitchell lived near Mehan until 1943 when he moved to Stillwater. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and was a farmer. Survivors include one son Carl Mitchell of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Ralph Gray and Mrs. L.E. McConkey of Stillwater; Mrs. Dennis Brown of Golden, Okla.; Mrs. Sam Patton of Muskogee and Mrs. Wayne Thomas of Stillwell, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Will Leach, of Milford, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death, March 24, 1913.
