Services, with Rev. Charles Pickle presiding, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Christian Church of Coyle. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to visit the funeral home may do so Monday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Cushing Oct. 14, 1923, to George Thomas and Zora (Hargis) Edwards. In August 1974, he married Julia Chamberlin. The couple lived in Coyle. When she died in 1993, he later moved to Stillwater in 1998. He grew up in Cushing. After graduating from Cushing High School, he spent time in the Army building floating bridges. His overseas assignment took him to Europe. He was proud to serve his country and was a member of the VFW until he died. When he returned from overseas, he lived in Oklahoma City where he was employed for 40 years with Video Independent Theaters as a manager. He will long be remembered by many for his active participation in the Stillwater Senior Citizens group and as the bus driver for Elderly Nutrition. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a brother and two sisters. Survivors include his longtime companion, Wanda Grubb; a sister, Dorothy Dunham of Las Vegas; one son, Lewis G. Edwards and his wife, Beverly, of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, LeaAnn Patterson and her husband, Phil, of Oklahoma City, and Lynne M. Maurer and her husband of White Salmon, Wash.; four stepsons, Jess, Tom, Lonnie Ray and Ronnie Smith; one stepdaughter, Anna Lou Newton; and 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She attended Stillwater Public Schools and graduated with an associate degree in business from Felt and Tarrant Business College in Los Angeles. She worked in that area while her husband was stationed in Los Angeles. She worked as a bookkeeper. When her husband retired in 1965, the couple moved to Stillwater to be close to her family. For many years, she worked as a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers. He was born in Willard Jan. 5, 1916, to Joseph Emanuel and Nellie E. (Cunningham) Tull. He married Lois Marie Tate May 27, 1934, in Morrison. He moved to Pawnee in 1939. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pawnee and the Good Sams Camping Club. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He retired in 1981 from the Pawnee School System where he was head of maintenance. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and fishing. He was 72. Services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Stillwater, Friday at 3 p.m. Jones was a retired Air Force fighter pilot with more that 7,000 hours flying time. His medals include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Reserve Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Battle Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He flew 100 missions in the F-105 over North Vietnam in 1967. He was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Athens, Texas, and grew up in Palestine, Texas. He attended Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas, and graduated from Palestine High School. He played football at Henderson County Junior College and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He entered the Air Force in 1951 and served in the Security Service in Washington, D.C., before beginning aviation cadet training at Bartow, Fla., in 1952. He graduated from Cadets in Class 53-B at Foster Air Force Base, Texas, and married Marjory Maffitt March 21, 1953, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Palestine, Texas. He held B.S. and M.S. degrees from Oklahoma State University and taught history in the Stillwater Public Schools. He was a life member of Clan Moffat Society and a member of Clan Donald USA. Attending Scottish Games was a source of pleasure after retirement from teaching. He loved to fish, grow vegetables and work with wood. He is survived by his wife Marjory, of the home; daughter Cynthia Kiser and her husband Tommy and their children, Thomas and Melanie, all of Stillwater; and by son William Patrick Jones and his wife Susan and their children, Joseph, Martin and Austin, all of Michigan. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and worked for the Oklahoma State University Dairy Department. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by four brothers, one sister and two grandsons. Carmel Cemetery at Summit Ridge. Brown's Funeral Home of Luther directed the arrangements. He was born in Fridlry, Minn., Oct. 20, 1916, to Christian and Olga Foss. He married his wife, Phyllis in Minneapolis. They were married 62 years. He spent most of his life as a pastor with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He spent years as a pastor in Gentry, Ark., and in Perkins. After he retired, he resided at the Summit Ridge Retirement Center in Harrah. He was predeceased by his parents, five sisters and one brother. Graveside services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Farmington Cemetery at Fredonia, Kan., with Rev. Leslie Miller officiating. Services are under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The family requests no visitation although friends and relatives may sign the register book at the funeral home during business hours of 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Brunker was born May 19, 1917, in Wichita, Kan., to William Adam and Grace May (Harris) Brunker. He attended school in Wichita until 1932 when his parents moved to Farmdale, Kan., north of Fredonia, where he graduated in 1936. Brunker was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, 36th Division of the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion from February 1942 until his honorable discharge in October 1945. His unit had served in seven campaigns, Naples Roggier, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Ardennes-Alsane, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After returning from the Army, Brunker and his two brothers Wendell and Keith, became custom harvesters, as well as farming near Coyville before retiring. Brunker was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother Wendell; a sister, Erma Lou Spillman and a brother-in-law, Paul Spillman. Aug. 2, 1902, to Harry Leonard and Elizabeth (Lunceford) Coleman. On Feb. 20, 1920, she married Walter Everett Truitt. He died Aug. 1, 1932. They lived in Topeka, Kan., until 1924 when they moved to Herrington, Kan., where she worked as a photographer's assistant. In 1925 and 1926 they lived in California and Reno, Nev. They returned to Topeka and opened a dance studio where she and her husband taught. After her husband died she moved the family to Atchison, Kan. where, with the help of a friend, she ran a dance studio and worked as a bookkeeper. On April 25, 1935, she married August A. Haegelin. He died June 12, 1970. They moved to Temple, Texas in 1947 where she worked as the Recreation Center director. From 1948 until 1953 they lived in Roswell, N.M. where she was a bookkeeper. From about 1955 until 1970 they lived in Oklahoma City. It was during this time she began working as a nurse companion which she continued until she retired in 1980. In October, 1987, she entered Westhaven Nursing Home where she lived until she died. In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by her parents, one brother, D.O. Coleman and one son, Arthur Leonard Truitt. Survivors include two children, Mrs. George W. (Virginia) Newell, of Stillwater and Charles A. He graduated from New Lima High School in 1957. At the age of 20, he went to work for the Oklahoma State Highway Department. He worked his way up to surveyor and was working as such when he moved to Stillwater in 1972. Whisenhunt retired in 1996 with 30 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and one infant sister. Whisenhunt is survived by two brothers, Hughie Whisenhunt and wife Dolores, Oklahoma City; Gerald Wayne Whisenhunt and wife Gala, Cedar Hill, Texas; Naomi Nall, Oklahoma City; and many numerous nieces and nephews. *********************************************************************** Beatrice Covol Beatrice Fluke Covol, 78, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Fellows officiating. She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa. to Robert Smiley and Soledad (Chacon) Fluke. She lived in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Florida and Oklahoma. She worked as an administrator for Westinghouse, Phillips Petroleum Co., Dalton Foundries and retired in 1992 after 15 years as the assistant administrator and office manager in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. After moving to Stillwater, she was active at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry and worked part-time in the church office. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Judith Karman Hospice and the Karman Korner Retail Shop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Fluke. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. Smith was born on Nov. 18, 1907 in Gainesville, Mo., to Martin Matthew Smith and Rosie Isabell Robison Smith. He came to the Council Valley community with his parents and family in 1919. He was united in marriage to Alta E. Tilley on June 7, 1939. She preceded him in death in December 1994. He farmed for many years in Payne County and he also worked in construction. He retired in 1969 from the Cushing Grocery Wholesale where he returned to farming. A lifelong resident of Pawnee, Eppler-Littlesun was born April 2, 1936, in Pawnee to Thomas and Cecelia (Grover) Hand. She married Bob Littlesun on June 29, 1973, in Stillwater. Eppler-Littlesun was a member of Pawnee Indian Baptist Church and Pawnee Indian War Mothers, Chapter 12. She helped with the Pawnee PowWow Homecoming Book and served as treasurer of the Veterans Monument Committee. She worked with the youth in the Boxing Club and officiated AAU Golden Gloves. Eppler-Littlesun retired from Munsingwear as a seamstress. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her home was always open to everyone. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George and Thomas Hand; four sisters, Ruby, Ruth, Christine and Molly; and one grandson, Zachary Rice. Survivors include her husband of Pawnee; three children, V. Thomas Eppler of Anchorage, Alaska, and John Eppler and Leslie Rice, both of Morrison; two brothers, Leslie Hand of Pawnee and Marvin Hand of Lexington; and four sisters, Verlas Hawkins of Pawnee, Eva Hill of Crow Agency, Mont., and Phyllis Morales and Pauline Cox, both of Lawton. They made their first home in Yale and lived there until moving to Sapulpa in 1957. Ashcraft was a farmer and also worked in the oil fields. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice; two sons, Oda Warren Ashcraft and Lonnie David Ashcraft; and two brothers, Joe Ashcraft and Robert Ashcraft. James lived in Arcadia, Calif., and later moved to Jal, N.M., where he worked for a chain link company, Durai Fence Co. He married his second wife and then worked for B.M. Well Service Co. The couple moved to Coyle in 1984. James' greatest joy in life was spending time with his children. Holinsworth was born Sept. 30, 1924, to John Wiseman Holinsworth and Clara Arena (Sparks) Holinsworth in Newkirk. He married Betty Louvenia Kirby on Jan. 23, 1943, at the Lost Creek Parsonage south of Stillwater. Holinsworth was a butcher by trade, salesman by heart and on the road for Old Gold Cigarettes in the 1950s. He and his wife Betty later started Harold's Wholesale Candy and Tobaccos and Betty's Homemade Sandwiches. In 1953, he bought Smith's Cafe on Main Street in Stillwater from Charlie and Sue Smith. The building, which was later The Hub Restaurant was eventually sold to Stillwater National Bank. He and Betty expanded to the Spudnut Shop, The Chalet Restaurant and The Waffle Shop. Holinsworth and his wife stayed in the restaurant business at the Holiday Inn in Stillwater. In 1969, they moved to Fayetteville, Ark., for a career in retail tires. Holinsworth briefly entered the world of financial planning for s everal years, then returned to the retail tire business in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1973. He returned to Springdale, Ark., in 1983 to open Big 8 Tires. He and Betty sold that business and retired in 1992. They returned home to Stillwater in 1998. Holinsworth was a member of Central Christian Church in Las Vegas, Nev., and Springdale Christian Church in Springdale, Ark. He was also a past member of several Stillwater organizations: Lions, Toastmasters, Road Knights of Stillwater, Odd Fellows, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Hunter High School in 1938 and received her bachelors degree in 1942 from Oklahoma State University. She earned her master's degree in home economics from OSU in 1958. She married Clinton Keeler in Lamont Dec. 27, 1941. After his death Feb. 17 1979, she married Frank J. Battles, Jr. Sept. 6, 1986 in Stillwater. During WW II she worked as a riveter for an aircraft factory. After the war, she lived in Minnesota as a homemaker and substitute teacher. She also lived in upstate New York before returning to Stillwater. She joined the OSU faculty as a professor of home economics and received the Teacher of the Year Award. She retired in 1984. She was the author and editor of a collected volume of the history of the Home Economics School at OSU which was published in 1987. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1989. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1956, where she was a favorite teacher of the Richardson Sunday school class. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and PEO. She was a worldwide traveler and was gifted at sewing and writing poetry. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. When she was a child Rachel moved often throughout Oklahoma and, for the most part, attended school at Greenwood School, south of Cleveland. On Oct. 8, 1916, after she completed her education, she married John Frederick Potts in Terlton. The couple raised 10 children, Gene, Roy, Jerry, Paul, Bill, June, Peggy, Annabelle, Mary and Betsy. The couple initially made their home in Terlton and later moved to an oil lease south of Cleveland. Later, they relocated to Mehan where they lived for nearly 13 years. They were residing in Cleveland when John died June 14, 1960. Rachel was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved working with her hands, quilting and crocheting afghans even past the age of 90. She especially loved spending time with her family. Branyan was born June 15, 1918, near Rattlesnake Hill in Hemphill County, Texas, to J. Thomas Branyan and Leona Branyan. He moved to Cushing as an infant and eventually attended Deep Rock School. He was proud of growing up in the company housing of the Deep Rock refinery. He was senior class president of Cushing High School in 1936. Branyan was a starter on the strong Cushing basketball teams of that era. He was an accomplished trombone player in the band. He attended Oklahoma University where he received his B.S. Degree in petroleum engineering and worked on his golf game. In 1942, Branyan enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received his commission. He later became the chief engineering officer on the First Fighter Squadron of the Second Air Commando Group. The combat outfit flew P-51 Mustangs and served with distinction in Panama and the India-Burma theater in World War II. After the war, Branyan worked for Foster Drilling Company and Shell Pipeline before acquiring his own drilling company. He drilled wells in most of the oil provinces n the United States as well as supervising drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico, Venezuela and England. Branyan was a civic leader serving on the Cushing City Commission from 1960 to 1965. He served as Chairman of Commission for a number of years and was responsible for a number of major projects. He was an avid golfer, playing up to 54 holes a day numerous time. He served on the board of the Cushing Country Club and served as president. He scored two holes-in-one. Branyan was an avid private pilot with approximately 8,000 hours of flight time in his beloved Aero Commander, "Redbird." Upon retirement, he acquired thoroughbred horses and enjoyed breeding and racing them. He was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining friends at his home. Branyan marred Dorothea (Dot) Kerr June 26, 1948, and had four children. They were married for 48 years before she preceded him in death in 1996. Johnson, 73, died recently in Arkansas. Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Island Community Church in Holiday Island, Ark. Rev. Herman Cook will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Johnson was born Dec. 8, 1928, to Edna F. and Roy L. Johnson on a farm south of DeSmet, S.D. He completed high school at DeSmet High School. He enrolled at South Dakota State College, now named South Dakota State University, in Brookings. He majored in Agricultural Chemistry and graduated with high honors in June 1950. Johnson had also enrolled in the ROTC program and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Chemical Corps upon graduation. He immediately pursued further graduate education in Biochemistry at the same institution and earned his Masters Degree in June 1952. Johnson studied for his Doctor of Philosophy degree at Ohio State University and earned his PhD in December 1954. He was offered an assistant professor position at that location and immediately assumed those responsibilities. Johnson married Sally Shamel in 1955. They had four children: Denetia Ronda, Jennifer Lyn, Melissa Ann and John Scott. He served as a special consultant to the Public Health Service for three months each in Spain, 1958, and in Chile in 1960. Johnson was offered a professorship at Oklahoma State University that presented considerably more challenge and leadership opportunities. He stayed at that position for five years. He accepted the position of Head of the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1974. He was then offered the position of associate director for the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station back at OSU in Stillwater. This position required supervision of research programs in 11 department and 17 branch research stations around the state. After nine years in that position, Johnson returned to his old Department of Animal Science at OSU for three years before retiring in 1994. At that time, Johnson and his wife built their house at Holiday Island and remained here until his death. During his career, he published well over 100 scientific papers on a variety of subjects in Animal Nutrition. One of his greatest pleasures was working with graduate students from both this and other countries. In 1988, he was named a Fellow in the American Society of Animal Science. In 1991, Johnson was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of South Dakota State University and in 1995 was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the College of Agriculture at Ohio State University. Over his career, he served on numerous regional and national USDA committees, receiving certificates of appreciation from the Secretary of Agriculture. Johnson stayed active in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring after 33 years as a Colonel in the Medical Service Corps. Johnson was active in his church, having served as a Council Chairman for the churches in both Ohio and Oklahoma, and sang in the choirs of churches in four states. He was also active in Kiwanis International, and recently, in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one grandson. Johnson is survived by his wife Sally, his daughters, Jennifer and Melissa, his son, Scott, three grandchildren and two brothers. Allinson was born June 28, 1906, just outside of Crystal Springs, Ark. She was the first child in a family of eight children born to Jonas and Louisa "Lula" (White) Spiva. She attended a traditional one-room school in rural Arkansas until contracting smallpox in 1919. While still in recovery, Allinson packed up with her family and boarded a train bound for Stillwater. The Spiva family rented a farmstead west of Stillwater to begin cotton farming. After settling into her new community, Allinson attended Cottonwood School, just west of town. Within a couple of years of her move to Oklahoma, she met the love of her live, Merle Allinson. The couple wed Sept. 28, 1923, at the Payne County Courthouse. To this union two daughters were born, Maxine Largent and Vera Bilyeu. Despite temporary moves to Shawnee, Sulphur and the San Francisco area, the Allinsons kept Stillwater as their home for over 70 years. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church. Besides maintaining a home for her two daughters, Allinson worked in agriculture (cotton and pecan farming), as a crew supervisor in the shipyards in California during World War II, and kept books for her husband's painting business. Allinson loved to do macramé and crochet. Her last project was a crocheted baby blanket for her 10th great grandchild four and half years ago. Allinson is preceded in death by her her beloved husband, Merle in 1993; her parents, Lula and Jonas Spiva; sisters, Reta Keys and Lois Spiva; brothers, Howell, Willard and Dale Spiva; and sons-in-laws, Winsel Bilyeu and Max Gilbert. Elliott was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Yale. He retired as a sergeant major and worked for several years at Tinker Air Force base as a civilian owner and operator of Anderson Trucking Company. He was a member and chapter director of Chapter "Y" of Stillwater. He toured most of the U.S.A. on his motorcycles and enjoyed camping out and visiting with his wife and other riders. He served in the Army during World War II in the Western Pacific Theater, Company C, 111th Infantry, was honorably discharged, and obtained an electrical engineering degree after the war under the G.I. Bill. He spent most of his career working as a research and development engineer in the defense industry for General Atomics, Hughes Aerospace, Grumman Aircraft and other companies involved in our nation's defense. While there he was involved in the development of the optics used in high resolution satellite based cameras. Later in his career he invented tools that are still in use today to handle materials in clean room environments. His hobbles were art, playing bridge and tennis, listening to classical music and photography. After he retired, he spent time teaching other senior citizens how to use computers. He was married to Helen Shapiro who preceded him in death and is survived by his daughters, Arlene Randall of San Diego, Calif. and Marilyn Delson of Kingston, New York, and his grandsons, Beau Randall of San Diego and Andrew Delson of Kingston. Clemons was born on a farm south of Stillwater Dec. 10, 1917, to James H. and Ettie Z. (Kimple) Demaree. She married Melvin Lee Clemons March 16, 1941, in Oklahoma City. He died Oct. 3, 1960. She attended Diamond Valley School, Stillwater High School and one year at Oklahoma A&M College. Following their marriage, Mr. Clemons was inducted into the Air Force and for the next four years they lived in several places as he remained in the service until the end of World War II. In 1945, they established a home in Stillwater. Upon leaving college, Clemons went to work for the Stillwater National Bank until January 1942. During World War II, she worked as a secretary for the principal at Stillwater High School for one year. The Clemons moved to Wewoka in 1956 to open their own business. Clemons worked as the office manager. In 1971, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked as a bookkeeper for the University Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. After retirement, she devoted much of her time to genealogy research of her various family ancestries. She became the national expert on the Rutledge families and wrote two books, "My Rutledge Family, Book 1 from Early Maryland to 1990," and "Book 2 continued to 1998." She became quite adept at using the computer and e-mail. She corresponded with Rutledge enthusiasts around the world. Clemons was the founder of the Diamond Valley Church where she served as the first Sunday school superintendent. Other organizations she belonged to are the Rebecca Lodge, B&PW Club, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wewoka; past president of Wewoka B&PW, PTA and the Stillwater Alumni Association. Clemons is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister. He married Helen Margaret Heston June 10, 1934. In 1939 the couple and their three year old son, John, moved back to Laverne. He became a full time rancher and civic leader serving as mayor of Laverne for eight years and as manager of the Laverne Chamber of Commerce for 16 1/2 years. Starting in 1949 and for the next 29 years, he was on the board of directors for the Woodward Oklahoma Production Credit. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Laverne. After he retired in 1973, he and his wife made their home in Mercedes, Texas. She died in 1987. In 1988 he married Amanda Viola Chuckle in Mercedes. She died in 1991. In addition to his parents and both wives, he was predeceased by a sister, Melba Klinger Ross. The Freeman family moved to Oklahoma while Ruby was a small child, settling in Ripley. She attended school there. Her high school years were spent at Colored Agriculturan and Normal University, Langston. She and Gracey F. Moore married in 1924 in Ripley. They took permanent residence in Cushing shortly thereafter. They became the parents of 12 children. In later years, she married the Rev. Joseph A. Brown, who also preceded her in death. Brown was a homemaker but after all children matured, she was a housekeeper for a few families in the Cushing community. She was a supporter of the Booker T. Washington School where her children attended. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association serving as local secretary and delegate to the state PTA conventions. She was speaker during these meetings. Brown united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church singing in the Gospel Chorus and serving as announcement clerk. While married to Rev. Brown, she was named Church Mother of the New Friendship Baptist Church, Silver City, where he pastured. Her loving and devoted family survives Mrs. Brown. She married William Earl "Red" Lohmann April 22, 1934, in Joplin, Mo. He died March 18, 1975. She was professor and chair of elementary education at Oklahoma State University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She devoted 74 years of her life to teaching. Her professional leadership was evidenced by her induction in the 2000 Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame and into the 2001 Oklahoma State University's College of Education Hall of Fame. Her career began in Cushing in 1928 and included 20 years in Tulsa Public Schools and 14 years at OSU where she was professor and chair of elementary education. Although she retired from OSU in 1975 she continued her work as an educational consultant presenting countless seminars and continuing to write until her official retirement in 2000. However, she never retired from her love of dancing and was still a vital part of the Stillwater Ballroom Dancing Club which she was instrumental in starting in 1975. She instilled a love for learning and living in all whose lives she touched. She served on the board of directors for the Senior Olympics through the City of Stillwater Parks and Recreation Department, worked with the Sheerar Museum, Friends of Old Central, heart drives and the Pleasant Valley School. She pioneered using the newspaper as a text with her manual, "The Living Textbook," and was instrumental in starting "Newspapers in Education" programs for prominent newspapers in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma. Dr. Lohmann was a member and past president of the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English, and past president of Oklahoma Supervision and Curriculum Development, member and president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Stillwater Chapter, member and past president of the OSU Emeriti Association and was also affiliated with the Oklahoma and National Education Association and Oklahoma and National Retired Teachers Association. She received Distinguished Service Awards from the Department of Education at OSU and Oklahoma Supervision and Curriculum Association and was a 1995 recipient of the Very Important Members Award in Oklahoma Retired Educators. The success she achieved through her dedication and the accolades to which she was accorded made her one of the top women educators of our time. He married Hazel Marie Reid in 1951 in Florence, Ariz. He moved to California and worked as a painter and concrete finisher at such places as Disneyland and Angel Stadium. In 1966, he moved his family to Tryon to get them away from big city life. He taught all his children, grandchildren and many others his skill in concrete work. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Thomas was born April 29, 1921, in the family home on the Goodbary Homestead in Otoe Township, near Carney. She was the seventh of eight children born to James Russell "Russ" Goodbary, 1869 to 1949, and Martha Ann "Mattie" (Shoop) Goodbary, 1883 to 1966. Thomas attended the two-room county grade school at Mt. Vernon, District 36, where her first teacher was her sister. She graduated from the eighth grade in 1934. She was baptized into the Carney Christian Church Aug. 12, 1934. She attended Carney High School in 1938. She attended Central State College in Edmond one year and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. Thomas married Robert Christopher "Bob" Thomas June 26, 1938, in the Parsonage of the Friends Church north of Chandler. Following her marriage, she attended Friends Church. Thomas and her husband had two children. In 1943, Thomas and her family moved to San Pedro, Calif. She and her husband worked for Todd Shipyard. Thomas continued to work in the shipyard while he served in the Army at Camp Roberts, Calif., and Korea. In 1947, they moved to Santa Ana, Calif., where they started in business as electrical contractors. They continued in electrical contracting business in Santa Ana for the next 50 years, closing Thomas Electric in 1997. She was a member of the Scepter Chapter No. 163 Order of the Eastern Star of Orange, Calif.; she served 21 years as the treasurer of the Santa Ana Assembly No. 61 Social Order of the Beauceant. She retired and was then elected "Treasurer Emeritus." Her project in the Beauceant was raising money to purchase and train seeing eye dogs for the blind and in providing training for the blind person to permit them to fully utilize their dog. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Thomas was a very avid supporter of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews within their youth groups in the Masonic family. These included Job's Daughters and DeMolay. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts for several years during the 1960s. She was a Past Regent of the Santa Ana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was very proud to have initiated her daughter, granddaughter and niece, Linda Bryant, into DAR. She was an enthusiastic family genealogist and hand filled hundreds of binders with letters, pictures and other genealogical material relating to her extended family. Grula Mary M. Grula, retired Oklahoma State University professor and well-known community volunteer, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. Services will be Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Grula was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sept. 26, 1920, to Raymond and Ethel Muedeking. She attended the University of Minnesota where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1941 and a doctorate in bacteriology and chemistry in 1946. She married Dr. Edward A. Grula in 1951 in Lexington, Ky. He died Sept. 1, 1983. Grula was an assistant professor in the bacteriology department at the University of Kentucky from 1947 to 1952. Later she worked as a research associate in the OSU microbiology department from 1959 to 1980 with her husband. In 1980 she became a professor in the OSU microbiology department, where she remained until she retired in 1990. Dr. Mary, as she was affectionately known by her students, was a popular teacher and highly productive research scientist, publishing in a wide variety of areas, including microbial nutrition, cell division and its control in a species of bacterium Erwinia and microbial-enhanced oil recovery. In addition to her distinguished teaching and research career Dr. Grula was a well-known Payne County community volunteer and organizer. While her children were growing up, she served as a PTA officer, Stillwater Aquatic Club swim team leader and Scout leader. During the 1960s and 1970s she held a number of official positions in the Payne County and Oklahoma State Democratic parties. In 1970 she ran as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Congress in what was then Oklahoma's Sixth District. She was also very active over the years with the Stillwater League of Women Voters, the Stillwater Unitarian Universalist Church, the Payne County Audubon Society, the Stillwater Humanists Association and other community organizations. She was a talented and prolific writer and published numerous articles about a wide range of subjects in the NewsPress and various organizational news letters. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents. Welker was born June 19, 1914, to Lee Steven and Emmazella (Hicks) Peckenpaugh in Roundup, Mont. She married Ross Ward Welker on Jan 24, 1933, in Skedee. He died Sept. 6, 1971. Welker lived mostly in the Skedee area except for a short time in Sapulpa. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pawnee and Skedee, Rebekah Lodge and White Rose Club. She loved her family and many friends and her church families. She spent hours quilting and playing games at the Senior Citizen Center and loved watching her grandchildren and fishing. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Rhonda; her parents; four brothers, Cecil, Gerald, Guy "Buster" and Zane Peckenpaugh; and a sister, Lee Arlene "Peggy" Walenciak. For many years, she was a member of the Church of the First Born in Agra and had worked 13 years for Agra Schools in the Dietary Department. She enjoyed quilting, paying bingo and growing flowers. She was born June 22, 1901, to Samuel Tilden and Jennie Elizabeth (Noftsger) Johnson in Maramec. She married Lee Douglas Trimble on Aug. 30, 1915, in Stillwater. He preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1981. She attended school in the Maramec area. After getting married she lived in Quay. She then moved to Yale, where she lived for 13 years. She then moved to Stillwater. She loved to work in her yard and care for her home. She loved to sew and made many of the clothes her children wore. She enjoyed her family and loved having them around her, so much so, she reared her grandson, Leroy. She cared about people and was always there to lend a helping hand. She used to walk down the street and put change in the parking meters so the people parked in the spots would not run out of time. She was a member of the Church of God. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, five brothers and one sister. She is survived by two sons, Leroy and Maxine Trimble, Cleveland, Eldon and DeEtta Trimble, Tulsa; one daughter, Ruby and Gale Hadley, Stillwater; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Stafford, Kan., to Earl H. and Glenora (Durrett) Ackley. She married Robert Tinsman on June 19, 1965 at Ft. George G. Meade in Maryland. She received her early education in Ada. She attended two years of high school in Guthrie and finished her high school in Cushing; graduating with the class of 1957. She attended Oklahoma University and continued her education at Central State University in Edmond. She graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's in education. She traveled with her husband, who was an army officer, and lived in 16 states and two foreign countries. They moved to Cushing in 1996. She worked for the Red Cross. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing and was a volunteer in every community she ever lived in. While in Cushing, she helped with the hospital auxiliary and the Meals on Wheels Program. She is predeceased by her father, Earl Ackley. She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Laura A. Tinsman, Cushing; her mother, Susie Ackley, Cushing; and one brother, Steven Ackley, San Francisco, Calif. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring in 1966. He moved to Norman in 1972 and worked at the OU Health Sciences Center until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and served in many offices on the local and state levels. He was a member of Goodrich Methodist Memorial Church of Norman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Evelyn Campbell; and two brothers, Lester Almon Wilkinson and Loren Raymond Wilkinson. Westrop was born July 2, 1920, in Cambridge (Galt), Ontario, Canada, to Wallis Albert and Hattie Belinda (Roadhouse) Westrop. He attended Manchester Public Schools in Galt and Gault Collegiate High School. From 1938 to 1941, he attended Oshawa Missionary College. In 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served in World War II and was honorably released in 1945. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the C.V.S.M. and clasp and the War Medal, 1939-45. He married Sheila M. Davy Sept. 14, 1946, in Detroit, Mich. They lived in Windsor, Ontario, until 1950, when they moved to Dallas, Texas. Westrop retired in 1985 from the city of Dallas as a building inspector, and they moved to Charlotte, N.C. In 1995, they moved to Perkins. Westrop was a member of the First Assembly of God and was a municipal building inspector. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers. Services are under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Barber was born May 17, 1917, in Waurika to E.L. and Anna Deanna "Jackie" (Britt) Barber. He grew up in Honey Grove, Texas, where he attended school and graduated from high school. He married Ruth Pauline Briggs Oct. 8, 1939, in Roswell, N.M. They had one daughter, Judy. After marriage, they lived in Mount Shasta, Calif., where Barber worked for the railroad. This job was particularly important during the war as his railroad transported supplies. An accident with the railroad forced a change of career, so the family returned to New Mexico, where Barber owned a trucking business and two large truck stops in Portales and in Clovis. In 1962, they moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he owned and operated Dodge City Ready Built Housing until retiring in 1983, when they returned to Portales. His wife died March 27, 1993, and in 1995, Barber moved to Stillwater to be near his daughter and family. He remained with his daughter until death. Barber was baptized in Portales Calvary Baptist Church in the early 1950s and later served there as a deacon. He received many professional recognitions and appointments, including Ford County deputy sheriff and county commissioner in Dodge City. He was a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce and the National Home Builders Association. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; one brother, Pete Barber; and his son-in-law, Jack Hasik. He is survived by a sister, Faye O'Connor of Petty, Texas; a daughter, Judy Hasik of Stillwater; two grandchildren, D.J. Gall of Tulsa and Amber Teeman and husband Richard of Stillwater; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Megan Teeman; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Interment will be in Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of Roberts and Son Funeral Home. Field was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Temple to Oliver Clarence and Gertrude Naomi (Shaw) Houston. She grew up in Stillwater, where she attended public school. She married Robert Wayne Field June 29, 1952, in Stillwater. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1953, and they moved to Blackwell. Field attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva and Langston University. She worked as a nurses aide for the Blackwell hospital for many years. She joined her husband as a partner in Bob Field Dirt Contractor and worked along side him until she retired in the early 1990s. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Blackwell and an honorary member of Kay County Home Extension groups for 38 years; the latest was New Bethel Home Extension Group. She was known for her quilts, her cinnamon rolls and her Oklahoma State Grand Champion pecan pie. She enjoyed attending the State Fair and the annual quarter horse show at the Lazy E Arena. She was an avid bowler and won many tournaments in 26 years as a member of the Blackwell League. She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Dwight, Rayford, Bill and Clarence "Hap" Houston; two sisters, Vivian Yokum and Lillian Showalter; and one granddaughter, Precious Faith Mapel. Survivors include her husband of Blackwell; three daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Field Harman and Lana Field Mapel and husband Kris, all of Blackwell, and Monica Field Delaney of Ponca City; two sons, Jerold D'Wayne Field and wife Donna of Blackwell and Robert Kent Field and wife Lynne of Columbus, Ind.; two sisters, Reba Brewer and Lavern Hart, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
