Services will be held April 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Wharton's Funeral Chapel in Alva. Interment will take place at the Alva Municipal Cemetery. Alma (Jean) Reid, daughter of Eva (Rector) Grant and John Grant, was born north of Shattuck Nov. 3,1913. She graduated from Shattuck schools in 1931 and attended college in Alva. She taught school in a one-room rural schoolhouse, north of Shattuck, for five years. She married James (Jim) Reid May 1,1937. Two daughters, Chere Jean and Jamee Noell were born to Jim and Jean. Mrs. Reid was a wonderful mother, grandmother and teacher who loved children dearly. She never saw a child she didn't love - a baby never came into her arms that wasn't instantly won over by her tender voice and loving arms. Jean and her husband, Jim, worked hard in Alva in a variety of businesses: a dairy, a soft serve ice cream store, a car wash and a big productive garden. They made many friends along the way and Jean cherished every friendship. It has often been said by those who knew her well that "she saw the good in everyone she met and I have never met anyone who knew her that didn't love her". Jean and Jim enjoyed traveling in their motor home to the Gulf of Mexico and Florida up until the time of Jim's death in 1982. Mrs. Reid was a member of the First Methodist Church in Alva. She moved to Enid in 1994, where she joined the Christ United Methodist Church. She remained in Enid until 2000, when she moved to Edmond to live with her daughter Chere. This move allowed her to spend more time with her great granddaughters, Savannah and Mckennah, who she often referred to as "the lights of her life" and her granddaughter, Jill (her "best buddy") to make many treasured memories. In November of 2001, she moved with Chere to Guthrie where Good Shepherd Hospice began assisting in her care in December. She went to visit her daughter, Jamee and her husband Lanny, in Stillwater March 14 and it was there that Judith Karman Hospice was asked to help in her care. Jean will always be remembered for her youthful spirit, undeniable charm and her ability "to never meet a stranger". She will be terribly missed by all and her smile, warmth and laughter will remain with all of us to cherish in the memories that we have of her. She was such a blessing in the lives of everyone who knew her. Mrs. Reid is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1982, her grandparents, parents and two sisters. She is survived by her two daughters, Chere Jean Brown of Guthrie, Jamee Noell Trotter and husband Lanny of Stillwater, two grandchildren, TSgt James (Jim) Preston Brown, USAF, stationed at Pope AFB North Carolina, Jill Noell Ray and husband David, and two great granddaughters, Savannah Noell and Mckennah Nicole Ray of Edmond. Mrs. Reid is also survived by a number of family members including one sister- in-law, Ruby Lehl and husband Elvest of Wichita, Kan., a nephew, Bill Seacat and wife Dorothy of Oklahoma City, and many nephews and nieces. Family members ask that those who wish to contribute in her memory donate to the Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, Oklahoma, 74076, or the Good Shepherd Hospice of Oklahoma City. They were so helpful in giving her quality, loving care until the end.
