Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Strode Chapel. Mike Albert Sr., pastor of Yale Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa, will preside. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Glencoe. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. She was born Feb. 28, 1902, in Glencoe to C.H.C. and Caroline (Lockwood) Miller. She married Van D. Hesser Dec. 5, 1919, in Stillwater. He died Nov. 6, 1939. She was an active member of Davis Park Christian Church in Enid and served as president of the Women's Council. She was a Gold Star Mother in Stillwater and Enid chapters and was Oklahoma state president in 1972 and 1973. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 35 years and served as chaplain of the Stillwater and Enid Lodges. She was a foster grandparent at the State School in Enid for 10 years and retired when she was 86. She was a homemaker and foster grandparent. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, two sons, two brothers and five sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Vesta Luster of Tulsa; two grandsons, Van Wesley Luster and his wife Becky of Tulsa and David Bernard Luster and his wife Fagan of Indianapolis, Ind.; great-grandsons, James Luster of Tulsa and Ben, Joe and Luke Luster of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law Mary Louthan of Owasso and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Dillard was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Lincoln County near Agra to Edward H. and Vinnie (Harris) Pond. She married Gordie Martin in 1933. The couple later divorced. On Dec. 22, 1941, she married Cleo Harvey Dillard in Chandler. He preceded her in death June 5, 1973. Dillard's father rode the first train into Ripley. Her uncles, Willie and Maland Harris, were stone masons and built a number of buildings in Ripley, including the Agra Bank in 1904. Dillard lived in Depew for three months. She attended schools in the Depew area. She and her husband, Cleo, made their home in Stillwater, where they have lived since their marriage in 1941. She was a member of the Assembly of God church, was a homemaker and babysitter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, three sisters and one son. Dillard is survived by her nieces, Jana Dickenson, Olympia, Wash.; Dorothy Ledgerwood, Depew; Mitizi Henry, Sand Springs; and friend, Kenneth Hutcheson, Tryon. A Celebration of Life and Friendship will be 2-4 p.m. Aug. 10, at Brentwood Estates Clubhouse with Pastor B. Gordon Edwards of First Presbyterian Church, Stillwater, giving opening prayer at 2:15 p.m. He was born July 16, 1924, in Drumright to Richard Clay and Lillian May (McAulay) Burkett. He attended Gladewater High School in Texas and was a cheerleader and member of the tennis team. After graduating, he joined his father and uncle in their dry cleaning business. He moved to Dallas, Texas, and married Margie Catherine Ludwig March 4, 1948. They moved to Stillwater in 1968 where he owned and operated Northside Cleaners for many years. After retiring, he enjoyed buying, remodeling and selling residential real estate. He was a member of the First Presbterian Church of Stillwater. As a loving husband, proud father and true friend, he will be missed for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Donald L. Burkett of Dallas, Texas. Graveside services with Rev. Paul Jones presiding, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Cushing Dec. 13, 1925, to Houston and Georgia (Milton) Temple, He and Lois Marie Fash were married in Stillwater in 1946. That marriage ended in divorce. He married Mary Burk Hoisington in Stillwater in 1978. She died March 21, 1998. He attended school in Drumright. During World War II he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. After he was honorably discharged in 1946 he moved to Stillwater. He worked at various auto parts stores such as Ward's Chevrolet. In 1972 he purchased Mistle Toe Express which he ran until 1975. In 1975 he attended Meridian Technology where he was trained as a machinist and went to work for Mercury Marine where he met his second wife. He retired in 1987 and with all of his experiences was known as a "Jack of all trades." He enjoyed walking and gardening. He was a member of University Heights Baptist Church. In 1982 she moved to Stillwater and worked as a nurse's aid and medication at Rosewood Care Center until her health forced her to retire. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother. Graveside services were July 28 at Sumner Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home directed the arrangements. She was born June 28, 1920, in Ames, Iowa, to Edward Sanford and Beulah (Campbell) Olson. She married Gordon Daniel Albers in Ellsworth, Iowa, Jan. 29, 1943. They were divorced in 1962. During the first years of her marriage the couple lived in Arizona and California. They later moved to Hopkins, Minn. and Duluth, Minn. The family lived a number of years in Rochester, Minn., where she worked as a registered nurse and taught vocational nursing at the Mayo Clinic. She moved to San Clemente, Calif. in 1970. She married Stuart Dunlap on Sept. 1, 1971, in Oceanside, Calif. He died Feb. 28, 1986. In 1975 the couple moved to Desert Hot Springs where they lived until Jan. 1999 when she moved to Stillwater to be near her daughter, Jane Louisa Settles. She was a registered nurse and a member of the Presbyterian Church. In addition to teaching Sunday school and being a Cub Scout den mother, she enjoyed interior decorating, sewing and gardening. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Bette Olson Pontius and two brothers, Donald and Richard Olson. Survivors include one son, Daniel Olson Albers of Berkeley, Calif; two daughters, Prisca Anne Maier and her husband Christoph of Indiana, Penn. and Jane Louisa Settles of Stillwater; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Reynolds, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Mausoleum under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. Ginger Howl will officiate. He was born in Blanford, Ind., to Fred and Esther Reynolds and raised in Oklahoma City and west Texas. He graduated from Dalhart High School. He served three years in the Army Air Forces in the U.S. and Okinawa. Reynolds graduated from Oklahoma A & M. He worked for the Oklahoma Crop Improvement Association, Ralston- Purina, Sooner Life Insurance Co. and U.S. Life. After retiring in the early 80s, he and his son Jack formed the R & R Construction Co. and built homes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister. He then returned to Pawnee in 1995. In 1998 he moved to Pawnee Southern Oaks. He attended Booker T. Washington Dunbar Grade School in Tulsa and Pawnee High School. He graduated with the class of 1967. After graduation, he played in three bands and was a barber. Johnson learned to play the drums in the backyard of Grandpa Smokey. His first set of drums were gas cans. He cuts his uncles' and friends' hair. Warner Geneva M. Warner, longtime Cushing resident, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at age 80. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Dub Mowery of the Broadway Church of Christ in Drumright officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery. She was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Romulus to Floyd and Nettie (Alsip) Henry and was reared and educated in the Yale and Shamrock areas. On July 9, 1937, she married Floyd Warner in Stillwater. The Warners moved to Cushing in 1942 where they had lived since. She had been a member the Church of Christ for more than 50 years. Warner was predeceased by her husband, Aug. 11, 1979; one grandson, Jimmie Leniger Jr.; one son-in-law, Jim Leniger; three brothers and one sister. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Epicopal Church in Stillwater. She was born in Chicago Nov. 24, 1915, to Thomas Sterling Officer, M.D., and Olive Myrtle Henderson Officer, D.D.S. She lived in Chicago for 79 years before she moved to Stillwater. She graduated from Hyde Park High School, the University of Chicago and the American Conservatory of Music. Before she married the late William V. Wetzel Sr., she taught dramatic art. She later worked as a social worker until she retired in early 1981. She enjoyed theater productions, church activities and visiting with family and friends. She was an active participant in the Episcopal Church and particularly enjoyed her service on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Mercedes Officer Kemp. She graduated from Tryon High School in 1930. On Aug. 10, 1934, she married Milo Hurst. She attended one semester at Oklahoma A & M and was a homemaker until 1957, when she went to work at Woolworth. She sold shoes at Hines and later for Oliver's Shoe store in Cushing until retiring in 1985. She attended Park Place Baptist Church in Cushing where she was the last Charter Member. She taught Sunday school, Bible school and was active in many areas of the church. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and cook. She was always doing for others. She enjoyed camping and traveling. On their 50th wedding anniversary, she went to Israel. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Noble Walters and by two sisters, Selma Brixey and Pearl Licudine. She was born April 21, 1922, in Cleveland to Archibald and Maggie (Faust) Pense. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1940 and loved going to her class reunions. She married Dick Vance Feb. 10, 1940, in Hominy. She married Rader Wilson July 6, 1967, in Connecticut. She was the owner and operator of several restaurants and was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion while living in Iowa, serving as president and various other offices. She enjoyed writing letters, having family and friends visit and attended the Christian Church. In addition to her parents and husbands she was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Gum was born in Peno Bottom on Jan. 25, 1940, to Alfred and Frances (Corbell) Hale. She graduated from Tulsa Will Rogers High School. After graduation she met Gene L. Gum, whom she married on June 26, 1958, in Tulsa. They both worked for Woolworth's in retail sales. After they left Woolworth's, her husband began working for Howard Brothers, and she stayed home to raise their children. In the late 1980s, the couple began working for K&B Drug Store in Metairie, La. In 1999, they retired to Arkoma. Gum was a homemaker who loved reading, crocheting and watching old movies. She was an avid sports fan and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her father; her stepfather, Troy Thompson; her mother-in-law, Rose Gum; and a son, Eugene Gum Jr. Survivors include her husband; her mother, of Arkoma; three sons, Brian Gum and his wife Jeanie of Houma, La., Craig Gum and his wife Luann of Memphis, Tenn., and Kevin Gum and his wife Anna of Stillwater; and two daughters, Debbie Sellman and her husband Ennis of Alvin, Texas, and Tracey Robinson and her husband Michael of Tulsa. She was born to James and Ella Lowe Blair in Kansas March 21, 1901. She was the fourth of four sisters. There were three younger brothers. In 1901, the family moved from Kansas to a home near Perkins. Shortly later, they moved to a farm northwest of Cushing, followed by moving to Morrison and later Pawnee. In 1930, Oliver was married to Ray L. Oliver from Tennessee. They found a home at 625 S. Cleveland in Cushing. Oliver began working for Bell Telephone Company in 1925 but retired after 30 years to care for her husband. She remained in their home following her husband's death, until illness finally forced her to occupy a room in a local nursing home. Knowing her time was short, she asked that there be no funeral. She donated her home to the Fraternal Order of Police in honor of husband. She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, three half sisters and one half brother. She then taught in Stillwater Public Schools from 1951 until her retirement in 1974. She earned a master's degree in elementary education from OSU in 1955. Mitchell was born March 15, 1918 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Oscar Burton and Nettie Loretta Wheat Elam. She was married to Rev. Charles F. Mitchell Jr. when he came from Oklahoma to be her pastor at St. Luke's Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in Springfield, Mo. Together they served churches in southwest Missouri, Oklahoma and New Mexico for 42 years. Two years after her husband died in 1978, Mitchell quit teaching school at age 62, and entered St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo., for her own enrichment and to see what they were saying "at the top" about the subjects she had heard from the pulpit for over six decades. She graduated from the seminary at 65 years old with a Master of Divinity degree and a specialization in gerontology. She had previously graduated from Tulsa University in Oklahoma after studying at the University of Missouri in Springfield, and Sul Ross University in Alpine. She was a pastor at the Methodist churches in Stillwater and Sweetwater, Texas. He received his education in Bradford, Ala. He entered the military Jan. 1, 1949. He served overseas in Germany from April 8, 1953 to Dec. 22, 1954; and in Labrador from May 16, 1958 to May 9, 1959. During his military service, Lawson received the Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Loops; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Army of Occupation Medal; National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star; Korean Service Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters; and the United Nations Service Medal. Lawson retired from the military March 1, 1969. He was employed with National Standard for 10 years. He also worked for Oklahoma State University and Caraway Methodist Hospital in Alabama and the Ralston Purina Chicken Processing Plant. He was married to Colleen Lillian Mayfield June 2, 1955, in Carson City, Nev. They moved to Yale in 1975 and have since resided. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Britton Christian Church in Oklahoma City. A celebration of Troy's life will be held at the Veranda Room, Waterford Hotel, 63rd and Pennsylvania Avenue, immediately after the services. Emde was born March 10, 1954, in Stillwater. He grew up in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1972. He was an Eagle Scout at 14 years old. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1977. While attending OU, he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was an OU cheerleader his senior year. He remained a cheerleader for the university his entire life as he held OU very near his heart. Following graduating Emde attended the prestigious Thunderbird, the American Graduate School for International Management in Arizona. He received his masters degree from Thunderbird in 1978. He lived in France for a year and then worked in international marketing while living in Chicago, Ill., before returning to Oklahoma City in the early 1980s. He believed Oklahoma City was the greatest place in the world to live and spent the last 20 years living and working there. He owned and operated several businesses including Troy's Waterworks and Crown Construction. His talent for making the ordinary look extraordinary kept Emde busy refurbishing and remodeling homes throughout Nichols Hills, Oklahoma City and Edmond. Emde was also active in the Lyric Theater and the Miss Oklahoma Pageant, giving of his time to work with the contestants in various aspects and served as a judge in many pageants. He was a pageant director for the Miss OU Pageant for five years. Under his direction, Miss OU never failed to win a preliminary award at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant. He lived life at full speed and touched all those he came in contact with. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. She will lie in state at Strode Funeral Home Tuesday and the Brentwood Park Estates clubhouse Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and at Salem Lutheran Church Thursday morning until 10:30. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Salem Lutheran Church, 101 S. Duck. The family, with the assistance of Strode Funeral Home, will direct the services. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. She was born in Nunda, S.D. Oct. 10, 1909, to Norwegian immigrant parents Hadle and Karina Breiland Pundsness. She attended South Dakota State College for two years until the Great Depression cut her formal education short. She married Adlowe L. Larson Oct. 18, 1935, in Brookings, S.D. He died in 1986. They moved to Stillwater in 1936 when he took a job teaching agricultural economics at the then Oklahoma A and M College. She was active with international students with the Community Hospitality Committee and was administrative assistant in family relations and child development in the college of home economics. She was also a chapter advisor to Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Her family was important to her and she was a loving wife for over 50 years and devoted mother to her daughter, Karen and son, Robert. She was a charter member of the Stillwater Medical Center Auxiliary and the Potpourri Book Club. In 1962 she and her family moved to Madison, Wisc., where she was active in university affairs entertaining students at the International Cooperative Training Center, Daughters of Demeter and Alpha Chi Omega. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served as an officer of the Bethel Lutheran Church Women. In 1973 she and her husband moved to Jogjakarta, Indonesia, where they lived three years. While there she taught English to the faculty wives and frequently entertained international visitors. After he retired in 1977 they returned to Stillwater. They were active in Payne County Retired Teachers Organization and AARP. English was her second language and again she taught English to international students. She also continued her international travels. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and served on the church council as an officer of Salem Lutheran Church Women and Church Women United. After her husband's death she took his place working with her son, Robert, in Square One, America's first private prison company, where she was assistant treasurer. From 1986 until 1999 she was a regular and frequent visitor to Oklahoma prisons and took Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to prisoners who had no other visitors. She will be especially missed by Donald Robertson to whom she became "Grandmother." She moved to Phoenix in the summer of 2000 to be near her daughter. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and sisters, Laura Larson and Olga Sorensen. He returned to Tulsa where he attended Tulsa University and worked for National Geophysical as a surveyor and graduated with a bachelor's degree in science with emphasis in geology and continued working for National Geophysical. In 1961 he began working for the Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior, as a geologist and retired in 1988 from McGee Creek Project. On March 30,1961, he married Doreen Masson in Tulsa. Jett has lived in Stillwater since 1997. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening, as well as his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Jett was predeceased by his parents and five sisters, Reland Taylor, Marie Jett, Imogene Gibbs, Marjorie Jett and Corinne Jett. Lincoln Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 91. Sally was born October 10, 1909, in Nunda, South Dakota, the second of four daughters born to Norwegian immigrant parents Hadle Pundsness and Karina Breiland Pundsness. Although her own formal education was cut short by the great depression - she attended two years at South Dakota State College at Brookings - her life was devoted to education. She married Adlowe L. Larson on October 18, 1935, in Brookings, South Dakota, while he was in graduate school at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She began helping others by typing papers, including her husband's doctoral dissertation. They moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, in the record-setting hot summer of 1936, when he took a job teaching Agricultural Economics at then Oklahoma A&M College. Though they vowed to stay only one year, Stillwater became home, and one year became twenty-six years. At A&M and later OSU she was active with international students with the Community Hospitality Committee. She was also administrative assistant in Family Relations and Child Development in the College of Home Economics and served as chapter advisor to Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Family was very important to her. She was a loving wife to Adlowe for over 50 years until his death in 1986 and devoted mother to daughter, Karen, and son, Robert. She served as Brownie and Cub Scout mother, Sunday school teacher, homeroom mother, and with her husband, Adlowe, served as President of the joint Stillwater Junior High/Senior High PTA. She was a charter member of the Stillwater Medical Center Auxiliary and the Potpourri Book Club. She was a bridge player and square dancer. In 1962, she and her family moved back to Madison, Wisconsin, where she was active in university affairs entertaining students at the International Cooperative Training Center, Daughters of Demeter, and Alpha Chi Omega. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church then and served as an officer of the Bethel Lutheran Church Women. She became a world traveler, first returning to Norway, the country of her parents, in 1964, where she met countless first cousins for the first time. Her travels included three trips around the world. In 1973, she and Adlowe moved to Jogjakarta, Indonesia, where they lived for three years. While there, she taught English to faculty wives and was frequently asked by the American ambassador to entertain visitors. She was twice presented to Queen Elizabeth II of England. Sally and Adlowe returned home to Stillwater in 1977 upon his retirement from teaching. Although retired, they did not slow down. They were both active in Payne County Retired Teachers Organization and AARP. English was her second language, and she again taught English, this time to wives of international students at OSU. She continued her travels, including extended stays in Thailand and Malaysia, to China with friends and OSU Alumni, and a return trip to Norway with her daughter, Karen. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, as an officer of Salem Lutheran Church Women, and Church Women United. After the death of her husband in 1986, she took his place working with her son, Robert, in Square One, America's first private prison company, where she served for a time as Assistant Treasurer. From 1986 until 1999 she was a regular and frequent visitor to Oklahoma prisons, including taking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to prisoners who had no other visitors. She will be especially missed by Donald Robertson to whom she became "Grandmother." Following a serious illness in the summer of 2000, she was moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to be near her daughter, Karen, where she lived until her death. Sally was predeceased by her husband, Adlowe, her parents, sisters Laura Larson, and Olga Sorensen. McCrackin and her husband lived in Mannford for a short time before moving to Cushing in 1933, where the couple owned and operated the McCrackin Feed Company. McCrackin also enjoyed working with her beautiful flower gardens, loved cooking and was best known by her family for her homemade noodles. Her hobbies were cooking, fishing and hunting. Stone and her husband had a special passion for children. God's court of adoption allowed Stone and her husband to become parents of many children. They loved helping out single parents with rearing of children by completely taking responsibility for these children's needs with or without the support of the parents. Stone felt that her calling was from God and the children she raised still called her mother or aunt. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer and Greater Faith Baptist Church in Stillwater. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and a grandson. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 524 S. Duncan. Williams was born to John and Mary Williams Oct. 13, 1922, at Grove Farm, St. Clears, Wales. He attended the Royal Veterinary College, London, where he became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons at 21 years old. He returned to Wales and joined a large animal practice in Carmarthen and later at St. Clears. He and Mary Harries were married Sept. 4, 1947, at Nantgaredig, Wales. While he was engaged in a busy practice, he carried out clinical research on digestive problems in cattle. This led to the development of a diagnostic test for a condition known as Hardware Disease. The test became known as the Williams Test. He wrote a thesis on his clinical findings for which he was awarded the Fellowship, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1954. Williams also received the Harry Steele Bodger Traveling Scholarship to study in France in 1958. In 1960, he was awarded a Welcome Foundation Research Scholarship to visit veterinary colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University and Oklahoma State University. He presented lectures on his research work to the veterinary organizations in England, Scotland and Wales. He was active in the South Wales Division, British Veterinary Association and became president-elect in 1961. Williams was active in community life and served 10 years on the school board and 12 years on the parish council (city commission), with one year as chairman. In October 1961, Williams, his wife and three children, Thomas, Michael and Betsi, emigrated to Stillwater, where Williams accepted an appointment as an instructor, Department of Medicine and Surgery, College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University. Williams was a professor and involved in research work. He received the Master of Science degree in Veterinary Pathology from Oklahoma State University in 1966. He presented lectures at several meetings locally, state, nationally and internationally and contributed chapters to books on cattle diseases. In 1972, he became a Charter Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and served as examiner, 1976-78. Williams was the recipient of the College Year Book dedication by the senior veterinary medicine classes of 1965 and 1972 and the Norden Distinguished Teacher (veterinary medicine) Award in 1969. He also received the OSU Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher at OSU in 1972. During the summers of 1968 and 1969, Williams spent six weeks at San Carlos University, Guatemala with the Agency for International Development. He presented lectures and surgical demonstrations to students at the School of Veterinary Medicine. He also presented programs to groups of cattle owners in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. In 1967, Williams became the editor of, The Oklahoma Veterinarian, a quarterly journal of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association. He served for 25 years. In 1969, Williams assumed the editorship of Bovine Practitioner and in 1970, The Proceedings of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He retired from this position in 1998 after 29 years of service. These publications have a world-wide distribution. Williams was elected the College of Veterinary Medicine representative on the OSU Faculty Council in 1969. He served as chairman of the Rules Committee. He was elected vice- chairman in 1970 and became chairman for 1971-72. He and his fellow officers initiated the first cooperative effort with OU Faculty Senate to discuss matters of higher education. These meetings continued annually. He served on the OSU Athletic Council, 1987-91 and was chairman, Academic Standards Committee. He spent eight years on the board of directors, OSU Student Publications. In 1976, Williams received an Americanism Award from the Cimarron Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The award is present "to a naturalized citizen of the United States who has shown the qualities of trustworthiness, service, leadership and patriotism." Williams became a U.S. citizen in 1967. In 1977, Tulsa Veterinary Medical Association gave Williams a special award for Outstanding Services as editor of The Oklahoma Veterinarian and to the veterinary profession internationally. In 1969, Williams attained the rank of professor. In 1974, he moved to the dean's office to serve as the college's first director of Student and Alumni Affairs, but still continued some clinical teaching assignments. He was responsible for planning the first College of Veterinary Medicine Convocation for the graduating class in 1976, which has been held annually ever since. The College Alumni Association was reestablished with a board of directors having an alumnus representative from each class. He was a member of the OSU Curriculum Committee and Student Scholarship Committee. Williams served on several OSU selection committees: vice president for Student Services, chairman; vice president for University Relations and Development; dean, College of Agriculture; director, OSU Development Foundation; director, OSU Public Relations; department head, Animal Science; College of Veterinary Medicine, chairman of the Selection Committees for department head; Medicine and Surgery and dean of the college. In 1980, Williams was the first recipient of the Veterinarian of the Year Award, Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association. The same year, he received a Medal of Honor from the French Buiatrics Society for distinguished service to veterinary medicine. Williams was the host for 13 seven minute programs, titled "The Oklahoman Veterinarian," on modern veterinary medicine on Oklahoma Educational Television Authority, OETA, immediately following James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small." The same year, he became a foreign correspondent to the British Broadcast Corporation, Welsh Region. The XII International Veterinary Congress Prize was presented to Dr. Williams for outstanding service towards the international understanding of veterinary medicine by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 1981. Having served as editor for many years, he was the first recipient of the Amstutz-Williams Award established by the AABP. The award honors Dr. Harold Amstutz, AABP secretary- treasurer and later executive vice president for over 20 years and Williams as editor. The award is only presented periodically and is the AABP's highest honor. In 1988, Williams retired from Oklahoma State University but continued as editor of The Oklahoma Veterinarian until 1992 and AABP publications until 1998. He was elected an Honorary Life Member, Board of Directors, World Buiatrics Association in 1992. He also received the Distinguished Service Award, Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association. In 1998, OVMA President Joe Carter presented the President's Special Award to Williams. The award is presented to the person who has had a major influence on the president's life. Williams was cited as an outstanding teacher and leader. Williams has been involved in community affairs for many years. He was an elder, First Presbyterian Church and a long time member of Stillwater Lions Club. He served on the board of directors, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, 1974-77, serving as chairman, Rural-Urban Committee for one year. He was chairman of the City of Stillwater Water Conservation Committee appointed by the mayor in 1979. William represented the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine at the Annual Convention, Arkansas VMA for 10 years to report on college activities. When he retired he was presented an Arkansas Traveler certificate signed by the governor which made him an Honorary Ambassador for Arkansas. In 1982, Williams was appointed to the board of trustees, Stillwater Medical Center. He was chairman of the board, 1988-90. Williams was directly responsible for establishing the Stillwater Medical Center Foundation. This endowment has raised a large amount of funds for the SMC. He served on the original board for 10 years. He served a term on the Salvation Army Board of Directors. He had a special interest in history. He was the main author for the following history books: The College of Veterinary Medicine, part of OSU's centennial celebrations; The Role of Faculty in University Governance at OSU (contributing chapter); First Presbyterian Church, Stillwater on its centennial anniversary in 1991; Stillwater Medical Center, "Tender Loving Care" in 1994 (1939-1994); American Association of Bovine Practitioners (1964-1998) "The sun never sets on the bovine practitioner." Williams was appointed by Gov. Henry Bellmon to the Oklahoma Tourism Commission in 1990. In 1995, Williams was the recipient of the R.W. Hall Clinical Price presented by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons at a ceremony in London. The prize was for outstanding contributions in the field of clinical observation and practice among farm animals. In 1996, he published Reflections of a Country Vet about his life growing up on the farm, becoming a veterinarian and practicing in his hometown, St. Clears until the family left for the U.S. in 1961. The book was published by New Forums Press in Stillwater and by Gomer Press in Wales. In 1998, Williams was inducted to the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame for outstanding services to higher education and his profession. In 1999, Williams was inducted to the Stillwater Hall of Fame for outstanding service to the community. Williams and his wife are members of the Stillwater Country Club and loved to play golf. He is an honorary member of the British Cattle Veterinary Association, and has lifetime memberships to American Veterinary Medical Association; Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association; OSU Alumni Association; OSU Emeriti Association; American Association of Bovine Practitioners; Phi Kappa Phi, Emeritus Life Member; and Stillwater Medical Center Auxiliary. She was born June 3, 1908, in Glencoe, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Casebeer) Dennis. She married Rile Lee and resided in Glencoe until his retirement, then moved to New Iberia, La. After a brief stay in Biloxi, Miss., she returned to New Iberia. Her beloved birthplace was always home to her. It was at a tent revival at age 12 she gave her life to the Lord along with her dear mother. Vernie's love of God held true through trials and troubles. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She earned many awards with her art and crafts. One of her paintings that she was most proud of is hanging in the Glencoe State Bank and it is a painting of the No. 83 Engine train she and her husband, Rile, took on their honeymoon. She was also a seamstress for 14 years in Glencoe. She taught painting in New Iberia. She was an accomplished musician in piano, accordion, organ, guitar and steel guitar. She was predeceased by her husband, Rile; son, Donald Lee; daughter, Phyllis Lee Fouquir; and grandson, Ross Anthony Fouquir. McDaniel was born in Dustin March 26, 1929, to Earnest and Gracie (Null) McDaniel. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army with the Eighth Cavalry Regimental "Scout Platoon." On April 22, 1954, he married Norma Jean Palmer at McAlester. To this union, six children were born. McDaniel worked for the Goodyear Tire Company in Denver, Colo., until his retirement in 1981. He then returned to Oklahoma and started his own business that he operated until his death. He is preceded in death by his life-long partner, Jean on Sept. 2, 1999; his daughter, Ruby Proctor; his parents; and his sister, Myrtle. He moved to New York City and then to Washington, D.C., where he worked for the War Department. He was drafted in 1942 and served state side during World War II. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant. In January 1946 he moved to Tulsa where he worked in a dry cleaning plant. He moved to Yale in the spring of 1947 where he worked for the local dry cleaners. He went on to work for Henry Henson Chevrolet until 1963 after which he was employed by Harley Thomas Ford Agency in Stillwater where he worked for 30 years before he retired in 1993. The family moved to Stillwater in 1966. After retiring from Harley Thomas Ford Agency he worked part time for 108 Auto Salvage in Glencoe. He loved reading and had a great interest in geography and history. He was a bookkeeper and a member of First Baptist Church, Perkins, and the Stillwater American Legion Post. He lived in the Oklahoma City area before moving to Cushing in 1946. He was employed by Tinker Air Force Base during WW II and then worked in the parts business until his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, was a Sunday school teacher and held a Bible study class in his home. He was a member of the church choir and attended the Tuesday morning men's prayer group. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife; four brothers and three sisters. Murphy was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Glencoe to Charley and Beulah Faye (Olinghouse) Murphy. He served in the U.S. Army for two years in the Korean War and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1954. He married Elizabeth Fuss in Pawnee on Dec. 23, 1954. They were divorced in 1979. Murphy worked as a dealer of farm machinery. In 1972, he returned to Glencoe from Victoria, Texas, and continued in the farm machinery business. He also operated the Glencoe Drug Store for a short time. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Driskel of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Karen Flora and her husband Jerel of Pawnee; one grandson, Joshua Driskel of Daytona Beach; one step-granddaughter, Amanda Flora of Stillwater; and one brother, James E. Murphy of Houston, Texas. ****************************************************** Irven Warren McKey Irven Warren McKey, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in Grace Living Center in Stillwater. McKey was born June 20, 1921, in Carney to Irven William and Addie May (Ford) McKey. He attended Carney schools and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps as a bulldozer operator on the Cody, Wyo., dam. During World War II, he served as an artillery corporal in seven major battles in North Africa, Sicily, France (Normandy Beach and the Battle of the Bulge), Germany and Holland. In Germany, he helped liberate a concentration camp and visited others that had already been liberated. He was decorated with the Purple Heart Medal, EAME Service Ribbon with one Silver Service Star, two Bronze Service Stars, one Bronze Arrowhead and a Bronze Star Medal. He married Ruth Ella Burton on Dec. 25, 1945, in Perkins. After the war, McKey worked for Continental Oil Co. and Santa Fe Railroad in Oklahoma City. He also farmed in Carney, running a Grade A Dairy. He then moved to Stillwater and worked for Stillwater Municipal Hospital for 24.5 years as a maintenance engineer. He retired as director of maintenance engineering. He was a member of the Maintenance Engineers of Oklahoma and served as a deacon for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Thornbury was born Jan. 28, 1966, in Bronx, N.Y., to Helene "Lee" Thornbury. As a young child the family moved to Stillwater where he attended Stillwater Public Schools, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1985. He later attended OSU where he studied radio and television broadcasting. Thornbury had been employed for eight years at Lakeside Memorial Park Golf Course and then worked at Hoke Lumber Company. He became associated with Stillwater Building Center when it opened in 1999 and was employed there as a salesman at the time of his death. He was currently pursuing EMT and physician's assistant training at Meridian Technology Center. Thornbury greatly enjoyed golfing, but his greatest love was his son, Cade. Hilbert was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Ladysmith, Wisc. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a cherished friend to all who knew him. Hilbert was a retired professor of speech and communications at Langston University. After retiring in 1998, he and his wife moved to Las Cruces from Oklahoma. In Las Cruces, he worked as a senior projects evaluator for Corridor, Inc. until the time of his death. He also worked helping families and young people throughout the state. He cared deeply for people and dedicated his life to helping disadvantaged young men and women. He had written and published six textbooks and enjoyed cooking, computer technology and music. He loved photography, especially of desert flowers and had won many awards for his photographs. Hilbert was always optimistic and enthusiastic. Preceding him in death were his father, mother and brother. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of the home. They spent 15 cherished and unforgettable years together. He also leaves sons, Andy Hilbert of Edmond and Chris Hilbert of Oklahoma City; stepsons, Larry Guyot of Neodesha, Kan. and John Guyot and wife Elese of Independence, Kan.; grandchildren, Brooke Guyot, Shyanne Guyot and Travis Guyot.
