Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Strode Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Hardy will officiate. Interment will be at the Fairlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Andrews was born March 12, 1931 in Braman to Arthur and Lavina (Holt) Andrews. He was married to Pansy White on Aug. 16, 1952. He attended Perry schools where he was captain of the football team and was scouted by several colleges. Andrews also attended Stillwater High School, where he graduated in 1953. He was a member of the 45th Division of the National Guard and during his junior year they were mobilized for the Korean Conflict. He later returned home to Stillwater with an honorable discharge. He married Pansy White at the First Christian Church in Tulsa. Andrews worked part-time at the White Way Cleaners and then started painting. He went to work for many local painting companies and then later for himself. He was an avid football fan and lived to be with his grandchildren and his family. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. Andrews is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman Andrews. He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Cindy Paddock, Stillwater, Cathy Pate and husband Steve, Maramec, and Christy Andrews, Stillwater; six grandchildren, Angela Paddock, Tulsa, Roger Paddock, Tulsa, Randy Paddock, Stillwater, Shane Pate, Stillwater, Lindsay Collier, Maramec, and Tyler Pate, Maramec; one great-grandchild, Justus Paddock, Stillwater; two brothers, Duane Andrews, Perry, Frank Andrews, Stillwater; and sister Susan Rennick, Midwest City. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. McGinty was born in Ripley Nov. 15, 1913, to Albert Jay Criss and Grace Criss. She married Clarence McGinty in Cushing Sept. 22, 1932. He died Aug. 28, 1997. She lived in Ripley and then moved to Glencoe where she lived most of her life. She was retired. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Glencoe, Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Daughters of American Colonies. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Vetha Rank and a brother, Cecil Criss. She was born in Thornfield, Mo., May 1, 1911, to John Thomas and Julia Ann (Holland) Ely. She married Orval Watkins March 18, 1931, in Cushing. He died in 1987. She was a long-time resident of Agra and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Agra. For 15 years she was a housekeeper at Oklahoma State University and was a homemaker. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and a granddaughter. Prather, 41, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Covenant Fellowship Church in Cushing. Pastors Raymond J. He was born in Cushing July 31, 1960, to Willie G. Prather and Mary Lane Verner. He received his early education in and was a graduate of Cushing High School. In high school he was active in basketball and track. He was a construction worker and helped in the construction of the Cushing swimming pool. Bassett was born in Lake Mills, Iowa, on May 4, 1935, to Percy Lawrence and Lila G. (Kuale) Bassett. He received his early education in Lake Mills and while in school was active in sports. He was married to Patricia Wolters. He played semi-pro baseball with the Chicago Cubs and was a rancher and investment banker. He was predeceased by his father. Survivors include three sons, Jerry Bassett and his wife Jeri Dee of Broken Arrow, Scott Bassett and his wife Lesa of Tulsa and Lonnie Bassett and his wife Jessica of Bogata Texas; a sister, Sharlene Lowe and her husband Darrell of Yale; his mother of Yale; eight grandchildren, Jeffery, Michael, Tyler, Nathan, Cynthia, Jessica, Monica and Erin; one great-granddaughter, Baylee Renee Bassett; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. ****************************************************** Bertha Bicket Bertha Christine Bicket, 81, Lawton, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Edmond. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Frankye A. Johnson and Dr. Joe F. Stewart will officiate. Internment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Bicket was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Tulsa to Paul V. and Myrtle (Hardesty) Philpott. She grew up on a farm in west Tulsa. She graduated from Tulsa Clinton High School and attended Oklahoma A&M, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in home economics education in 1941. She also studied at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, where she obtained an elementary education certificate. Her first teaching assignment was in Caddo. She married Marvin C. Bicket on May 31, 1942, in Tulsa. They made their home at Indiahoma and then later west of Lawton. Bicket taught seventh grade in Lawton Public Schools, worked in the family businesses and was a homemaker and a Camp Fire leader. She taught school for 20 years, retiring in 1982 from teaching sixth grade at Garfield Elementary School in Lawton. Bicket was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She was a Comanche County Memorial Hospital volunteer for 17 years and looked forward to what she called her "Hospital Tuesdays," when she worked at the front desk. She was also a member of Chapter EB, P.E.O., in which she served in all offices; a charter member of Chapter FW, P.E.O. Sisterhood, in which she served as president and treasurer; and a member of the Comanche County Retired Educator's Association. She and her husband were active in civic projects, farming and ranching. She was known for her needlework and baked goods, particularly pull-apart bread and cinnamon rolls. The Bickets celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in May. Bicket is survived by her husband, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and DeWayne Muret of Blackwell; one son and daughter-inlaw, Dr. Paul and Colleen Bicket of Edmond; five grandchildren, Paul and Shannon Muret and Sarah Muret, all of Tulsa, John Bicket of Ithaca, N.Y., and Mark Bicket of Edmond. Lewallen was born March 17, 1922, in Yale to V.L. and Elsie (Hardwick) Lewallen. He received his early education in Yale and graduated from Yale High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 13, 1943, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 24, 1946. Lewallen worked as a pipe liner and lived in several places before returning to Yale in 1980. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Emily Clemons. Woelfel Warren C. Woelfel, 92, Lawrence, Kan., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence. Services were held at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community. Interment will be held in Stillwater at a later date. Woelfel was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Chicago, Ill., to Charles E. and Nell Rogers Woelfel. He moved from Prescott, Ariz., to Lawrence in 1992. He married Mary Frances Washinka July 30, 1933 in Stillwater. Woelfel was a retired professor of chemistry and physics and a research chemist. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Oklahoma State University. He did further graduate work at Ohio State University and the University of Texas. He worked as a research chemist for Continental Oil Company in Ponca City. He then taught chemistry and physics at Pittsburg State University until 1966. He moved to Arizona and taught at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Later in his life, he taught part- time at Pima County Community College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University until moving to Lawrence. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Social Fraternity and was a former member of the American Chemical Society. Woelfel is survived by his wife of the home; a son, James Woelfel, Lawrence, Kan.; three granddaughters; and two great granddaughters. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Countryside Baptist Church. Rev. J.B. Bond and Dr. Maynard Seaman will officiate. Interment will be at Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Smith was born April 25, 1916, near Douglas to Robert E. and Allien Nancy (Stout) Hubbard. She was born on her grandfather's farm and lived in Enid until 1927 and moved with her parents to a farm west of Covington. She attended grade school in Enid through the seventh grade. She went to the eighth grade in a country school west of Covington and a high school in Douglas. She accepted Christ as her Savior in April 1932. She married Rev. Victor Woerz May 15, 1932, in Covington. They lived there until 1941. After a short time in Sayre and Bartlesville, they settled in Stillwater for over nine years, where her husband began the Stillwater Gospel Center. They moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, in December 1951, where he had a pastorate at Ft. Worth Bible Church. In May 1957, they moved to Colorado Springs and lived there until he died Nov. 29, 1962. She left Colorado in 1963 and came to Stillwater for a short time. In January 1964, Smith went to the Dallas Bible College in Dallas, Texas, and was a homemaker and cook for five years. During the 28 and a half years as a pastor's wife, she was active in teaching Sunday school, children's clubs, daily vocation Bible schools and was a cook at summer regional Bible camps for years. In the early 1970s, she lived in Kansas for a while and then returned to Stillwater. She met Gordon Smith, a widower, in 1988; they were married Oct. 26, 1988. They hosted the first Woerz family reunion Labor Day weekend in 1989. In February 1990, he died of complications following surgery. She continued to live in Stillwater with her house being a gathering point for family and friends. In 1988, she joined Countryside Baptist Church and Rev. J.B. Bond joined in the family gatherings. Smith moved to Bryan Dec. 21, 2000, because of health reasons. She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Ruby) Clod Felter and Mrs. J.D. (Pauline) Farmer. Smith is survived by her son, Donald Woerz and wife Sharon, Bryan, Texas; three daughters, Barbara Watkins and husband Everett, Olathe, Kan., Dorothy Seaman and husband Maynard, Nemo, S.D., Mary Ayers and husband Fred, Ravenna, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Roberta Dobson and husband Howard, Tulsa. (Spillers) Evans in Perkins. She was reared and educated in Payne County. She moved to Houston, Texas, in the 1940's. Nocenti retired in 1989 and made her home in Cushing. She married Vlado Margitic in 1953. The couple made their home in Houston where they established several businesses. After Margitic's death, she later married Gig Nocenti of Houston, Texas. Nocenti is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vlado Margitic; three sisters, Mary Smith, Gracie Evans and Ollie Evans; and three brothers, W. O. Evans, Ted Evans, and Lee Evans. Stover was born May 31, 1916, at Girard, Kan., to Calvin Macy and Jessie Pearl (Mullen) Cooper Sr. She was married to Charles Oscar Stover Aug. 23, 1936, in Columbus, Kan. He died in 1988. She lived with her family in Girard until she was 12. They then lived in Columbus where she graduated from high school. In 1936, she graduated from Coffeyville Junior College. After her marriage, the couple lived in Coffeyville until they moved to east Lansing, Mich., where her husband was the director of the marching band at Michigan State for seven years. In 1960, they moved to Alva where he was the director of the music department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. There she gave voice lessons and was a substitute voice teacher. Both Stover and her husband were judges for music festivals and Miss Oklahoma pageants. They also hosted many international students. She moved to Stillwater in 1997 to be near her brother and has lived in Golden Oaks since. Stover was a member of the Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter C, and was the past president of the Presbyterian Women. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Calvin Macy Cooper Jr. and Richard Elbert Cooper. Stover is survived by her brother, Dr. Donald Cooper and wife Dona, Stillwater; sisters-in-laws, Verda Cooper, Columbus, Kan., Julia Cooper, Ft. Mapp was born Oct. 12, 1939, at Wardtown, Va., to Harry P. and Edith (Asher) Mapp Sr. He married Damona Doye July 8, 1995. Mapp was a member of St. John University Parish and worked as a professor. He received his B.S. in 1962 and M.S. in 1964, in Agricultural Economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in 1972, in Agricultural Economics at Oklahoma State University. He served as assistant professor from 1971-74 at Cornell University. At Oklahoma State University in the Department of Agricultural Economics he served as associate professor from 1974-78, professor from 1978-88, Regents professor from 1988-2000, and Jean and Patsy Neustadt chair from 1992-2000. Mapp authored or co-authored 250 publications, including 43 referred journal articles, four book chapters and over 100 invited and selected papers presented at professional meetings. He was president-elect, president and past-president of the Western Agricultural Economics Association, associate editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and editor of the Western Journal Agricultural Economics. He served on several national review panels for CSRS and CSREES Competitive Grants review. One of Mapp's most significant and enduring contributions grew out of his desire to improve the financial management of farms and ranches. An initial version of Integrated Farm Financial Statements (IFFS) software to link budget, cash flow, income and balance sheet information was developed. During the farm financial crisis, Mapp helped modify IFFS for Extension use, benefiting thousands of farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma. Agricultural economists from across the country have used several versions of IFFS in Extension, teaching and research programs. Mapp integrated his research into the classroom and was highly regarded as a teacher. For many years, Mapp also conducted Oklahoma Bank Sim-ulation, an innovative bank management game, as part of the Oklahoma Bankers Association Intermediate School of Banking. Mapp received several awards for outstanding teaching, including Alpha Zeta Outstanding Instructor in Agriculture, Merrick Foundation Teaching Award, OSU Alumni Association - Blue Key Outstanding Teacher in the College and three times Aggie-X Outstanding Teacher in Agricultural Economics. He also received the Southern Agricultural Economics Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Mapp served on the board of directors for the Payne County chapter of the American Heart Association and on the planning committee for the Relay for Life. He was past-treasurer of the Stillwater Exchange Club and served on the board of directors for Stillwater Group Homes. He is predeceased by his parents and one brother, Jackie. Cain was born Aug. 23, 1915, on a farm west of Morrison, to Christian and Wilhelmina (Spahr) Frank. She was the youngest daughter of eight children born to German immigrants. Her father made the Cherokee Strip Run for land and proved his stake in Noble County, southwest of Bill's Corner. Cain attended Oak Grove School. At an early age, she came into the Christian faith and became a member of the Methodist Church in Morrison. She moved to Eustis, Neb., in 1941 where she lived and worked with her sister and brother-in-law, Flora and John Rieker. She and the Rieker's moved to Perry in 1972. She married Gerald Cain Jan. 10, 1975, and made their home in Perry. She became a member of the First Christian Church in Perry in 1977. She was active in the local Senior Citizens organization and was a frequent visitor at Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry for many years. Cain is predeceased by her husband Aug. 24, 1982; her parents; three brothers, Eugene, Christ and Carl Frank; and three sisters, Katharine James, Sophia Vasek Owen and Flora Rieker. All of whom were Noble County residents. She loved her family and her home. She enjoyed gardening and raised vegetables, flowers and strawberries which she loved to can. She liked to cook for her family. Her specialities were fresh home baked light bread, cinnamon rolls, fried okra, hot biscuits and gravy and hot chocolate syrup. Cooking for her grandchildren brought her great joy. She won blue ribbons at the county fair for her white yeast bread and her canned fresh vegetables. She also loved reading her Bible. She was a member of the Church of Christ. For 25 years she belonged to the Eureka Home Extension Club. She was predeceased by her parents; her two brothers, Johnny and Earl; and two sons, Alfred Jr. and Sidney. In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, Freddie, Norman and Paul Dean; a daughter, Eula Rose Davis; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and one great-great - grandchild. The couple made their home in the Avery and Cushing areas before moving to Gaston in September 1969. He worked as a carpenter for over 42 years. While he was still living in Cushing, he had worked for Jim Roe Carpentry. He was dedicated to his work, but he also loved to play golf, play the guitar and taking care of his pets. She managed the lunchroom at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church from 1950 to 1964. After the death of her husband, she opened a daycare center that became known as "Granny's House." She continued caring for children until failing health forced her to retire in 1995. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #2027. Abbott, PhD, 78, Oklahoma City, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Abbott was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Lincoln, Kan., to Clayton Elmer and Lucille Frances (Giboney) Abbott. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 as a Norton Bomb sight and a Honeywell automatic pilot maintenance engineer. He received his bachelor's of science degree in biochemistry in 1949, his masters degree in 1951 and his doctorate in 1964 from Kansas State University. He worked for Fleishmann Laboratories in New York City and Federal Soft Wheat Lab in Wooster, Ohio, doing yeast, wheat and flour testing. He worked for the biochemistry department at Oklahoma State University from 1954 to 1986. While he was there, he established a wheat testing laboratory, conducted research, supervised graduate students and taught courses in biochemistry and organic chemistry. During his time at OSU, he took three sabbaticals. In 1971, he spent six months at Institut Pasteur in Paris, France, teaching techniques of immunochemistry. He went to Ludhiana University in the Punjab, India's "Bread Basket" for a year in 1971 and set up a wheat test laboratory. In 1977, he studied French wheat testing criteria and requirements at the Laboratory of Food Biophysics in Nantes, France. From 1999-2000, Abbott worked for Stover and Associates in Stillwater doing quality assurance and testing for environmental testing. He enjoyed bowling, golf, model airplane building and competition and singing in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church choir. He played the clarinet as a youngster and took up the bassoon in his 60s. He also took flying lessons and became a glider pilot in his 60s. In his 70s, he had a hole in one at Lakeside Golf Course on a par three, and a 160 yard sixth hole with a five iron. He also became a pain in the neck to the editors of the Stillwater NewsPress with his letters regarding mistakes in language and usage and photo labeling. Abbot is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Karl Lawrence. Cook William E. Cook, 77, longtime Cushing resident, businessman and civic leader died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, in Oklahoma City. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the ist United Methodist Church, Cushing. Visitation will be held Friday from 12 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Monday prior to services. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, concluding with military services. Funeral services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home. Cook was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Granby, Mo., to Thomas E. and Lesta Goade Cook. He came to Cushing in 1935 and graduated from Cushing High School in 1941. He entered the United States Army serving with the 68th Armored Infantry Battalion. Cook was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge Dec. 19, 1944, and returned to Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was still active in the alumni association. Cook married Jeanne Walters June 14, 1947, in Cushing. This union produced three children, Cynthia, Celia and William. Cook was a local businessman for over 50 years. He sold insurance, appraised real estate and built homes in Cushing. His last business was the Industrial Service Company, in which he traveled all over the world cleaning and reconditioning oil and gas storage tanks for the military and major oil companies. He designed, built and sold his V-Clone separator. He discontinued this operation in 1985. Cook continued to be active in the Cushing area, investing and working for the City of Cushing in many capacities. He was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He worked on the Methodist Endowment, served on the budget and finance committee and served on the administrative council. Cook was a longtime member of the Cushing Rotary Club. He served as Rotary President in 1965-66. He was a member of the Cushing Masonic Lodge 111; a 32nd Degree Mason, Consistory at Guthrie; president of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce in 1971 and this past year, Cook and his wife were presented with the Community Achievement Award, given annually by the Chamber of Commerce. He served as president of the Cushing High School Alumni Association; five years on the Cushing Board of Education, one year as president; chairperson of the Golden Circle; campaign chairman of the United Way; 12 years on the board of directors for the Cushing Regional Hospital, two of those as chairman; several years on the board of directors for the Physician's Liability Insurance Company; and a longtime member of the Cushing Country Club serving on the board of directors and as a past-president. Cook was involved with the Downtown Cushing Revitalization Association, which was involved in obtaining the selection of Cushing in the Main Street Foundation. He served as past-president. Cook enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends. He is predeceased by his parents and one infant son, William Walter Cook. They established their first home in Ripley and they later attended Oklahoma State University together. She graduated with bachelor of education degrees in English and home economics. The couple owned and operated a traveling roller rink and in 1946 they moved to Newkirk where they built and operated the skating rink. She also taught in a small rural school near Newkirk for a number of years and later worked as a social worker for the Department of Human Services, retiring after 30 years. Mr. Sherrill died April 20, 1980. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Red Rose Garden Club, Retired Teachers Association and was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, skating, cooking, sewing and raising her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Zetta Ilene Sherrill and Betty Ann White; her parents; three brothers, Melvin Thomason, Wesley Thomason and Earlie Thomason; two sisters, Pearlie Bays and Clara Emma Hensley; two infant siblings; and a great-grandson, Joshua Darrell Olmstead. Pierce was born Feb. 15, 1934, to Wilson and Hazel (Harris) Pierce in Morehead, Minn. He married Marilyn Henderson Metcalf June 29, 1974, in Amarillo, Texas. Pierce attended schools as a child in Morehead, Minn. and Fargo, N.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was awarded various medals for his service to his country. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Fargo, N.D., where he attended and graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After graduation, he began employment with A.C. Nielsen Ratings Co. as a market research representative where he traveled extensively throughout the U.S. He retired from A.C. Nielsen in 1987. He then enrolled in driving school and became a cross-country truck driver for a number of years. Always one to stay active, he later worked at Frontier City. He officially retired in 1992 and spent his free time woodworking, traveling, sailing and participating in various other outdoor activities. Pierce is predeceased by his parents. The "Colonel", as he was often called for his auctioneer title, spent over 40 years selling real estate. For over 30 years, he owned an auction and real estate business in Del City. Georgia was a graduate of Oklahoma State University's School of Geology. His interests included collecting everything from antique cars to old books and records, attending jazz concerts and spending many hours reading at the public library. Georgia was a long-time member of Sunnylane United Methodist Church, Del City, the Early Ford V8 Club, Oklahoma Mineral and Gem Society and a graduate of the Certified Auctioneer Institute. She married Raymond Murphy in 1944 and made their home in Tulsa in 1955. Murphy was a secretary for Akins Health Foods for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and was named Oklahoma Mother of the Year in 1990. Welborn Dec. 20, 1937, and had one daughter, Martha. She continued living in Cushing and later married Jim C. Mitchell Oct. 5, 1956, in Mississippi. The couple moved from Cushing to Tulsa in 1962. He died Jan. 17, 1975. She moved to Cleveland in 1992 where she lived until her death. Mitchell was active in the Baptist Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She worked for many years as a meat processor and a butcher for Escotts, Piggly Wiggly and Wilcoxins. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim, six sisters, and three brothers. Lowrey was born Feb. 2, 1930 to George S. and Lucille (McCormick) Lowrey in Woodward. Reared in Woodward, he graduated valedictorian of his high school class, was an Eagle Scout and went on to receive his bachelor of arts, masters of education and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He was president of Phi Sigma Kappa and was named to membership of the Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa honorary societies. He was chosen editor in chief of the Oklahoma Law Review and was named to the Order of the Coif. He married Virginia Joy Hoffman Aug. 23, 1953, and had four children. Lowrey practiced law in Woodward from 1956 until his death. He was an active member and past president of the Woodward County Bar Association. He was known as a careful and thorough attorney who took great interest in the concerns of his clients. He was a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, a former Woodward City Attorney and a former commissioner for the State of Oklahoma on the National Commission on Uniform State Laws. Lowrey was very active in the First Presbyterian Church where he had been baptized. He served numerous times on the governing board of the church, taught Sunday school and most recently had been serving as chairman of the pastoral nominating committee. Lowrey loved the Lord and passed his faith on to his children and others through his actions and words. He loved his family and was an excellent mentor and role model. He led by example. Lowrey was named Citizen of the Year in 1997. He was a community leader and builder of his hometown of Woodward. He was co- founder of the Woodward United Fund, the Plains Indians and Pioneers Historical Foundation, the Woodward Arts Council and the Woodward Arts Theater. He served as president of the Woodward Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, WHS Alumni Association and was a former director of Woodward Main Street. He served Woodward as a city commissioner for many years and was instrumental in advocating many city improvements. In addition to his family, profession, community and church, Lowrey enjoyed hobbies such as trout fishing, gardening, woodworking and sports, especially tennis and Sooner football. He always had an affinity for dogs. Lowrey is survived by his wife and their four children, Robert D. Lowrey and his wife Jana and three children, Taylor, Nicholas and Bryan of Sioux Falls, S.D.; George H. Lowrey and his wife Nahid and their children, Austin and Annabita of Tulsa; Sarah L. Taylor and her husband John and their children, Kathryne, Reed and Zane of Edmond; and Jeanne A. Lowrey of Chandler, Ariz. He is also survived by his brother, Deming A. He was born April 6, 1928, to long time Stillwater residents Ruth and Fred Jones. He returned to Oklahoma A and M where he earned his master's degree majoring in English and foreign languages. In 1950 he went to Germany as an exchange student. She attended schools in Byars and Wynnewood and also the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She wed James N. Shepherd on May 26, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. They made their in Oklahoma City and in 1954, moved to Stillwater, where they co-owned Remy-Shepherd Home Furnishings and became members of First United Methodist Church. In 1976, Remy's interest was purchased, and the store was converted into an Ethan Allen store, Shepherd's Carriage House, which operated until 1986. Shepherd's husband died in 1991, and she moved to Green Country Retirement Center in Bartlesville in January 1995. In 1998, she moved to Concordia Retirement Village in Bella Vista, Ark., where she lived until July 1, 2000, when she moved to Kennedy's Home Place in Grove. In October 2001, she entered the Grove Nursing Center. Shepherd enjoyed being a homemaker, church activities, water aerobics, little theater, travel, music, arts and crafts and attending her children's and grandchildren's recitals, ball games, sports events and other activities. She worked with Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and five siblings, Arlene Robinson, Marcelle Burk, Val Garner, Frank Julian Garner and Rex Garner. Yahn was a member of First Christian Church and served as the church's organist for thirty years. She was also president of the Business Women's Guild and a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Club. She played a vital role in the success of the Donaldson and Yahn Lumber Co. She retired from the company in 1993. She was predeceased by her parents. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Butts was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Indiana Township, Penn., to Thomas and Pansy (Dickinson) Butts. He married Carmelita Carr Sept. 25, 1947, in Guthrie. He attended schools at Natrona Heights Schools in Pennsylvania, where he participated in baseball. On Jan. 6, 1942, before graduating, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a pilot. During World War II, he served all parts of the war in the aviation relocation. He was honorably discharged from the Army Oct. 13, 1945. After returning from the Army, he went to work for OG&E in Oklahoma City in February 1946. He became the supervisor in charge of the Bell Isle garage and worked there for 35 years. While acting as the supervisor of the Bell Isle Garage, he also owned and managed the Green Valley Nursery before moving to Guthrie. After his retirement, he moved to Prague and then finally to Chandler where he has lived the past 20 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his own garden, where he raised things for many people. He also enjoyed making items for the Christmas Store, such as wooden step stools, toy boxes, wheel barrows and napkin holders. Butts was a baseball fan, especially of the Boston Red Soxs. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Tarentum, Penn. Butts is preceded in death by his parents and one sister. On the field he was known as "Big Ollie." He later attended Oklahoma State University and was actively involved with the Adult Student Organization. During his career, he worked in the oil fields, was a painter- decorator and prior to his illness was self employed in the construction business. Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and spending time with his family and a host of loving friends. She was a volunteer at the Sheerar Museum, where she received the Pillar Award for more than 20 years of volunteer service. She was also a member of Agronomy Wives. The family later relocated to Sheridan, Ark. In 1961, they moved to Altus living there until he retired from the Altus Air Force Base in 1972. Upon their retirement, the couple moved to Ripley where they lived ever since. She was a housewife, mother, farmer and rancher. She was born in Pawnee May 3, 1954, to Louis E. and Lucy Mae (Marrs) Brown. She married Dale Ivan Mahurin in Neosho, Mo., in May of 1971. She attended Stillwater schools and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1972. The couple set up residence north of Stillwater. In 1976 they moved to Miami where she and her husband owned and operated a Shell service station. The family moved to Ponca City where she was a homemaker and later worked at a hotel as a cashier. After returning to Stillwater she attended Oklahoma State University and Meridian Technology Center where she specialized in computer technology. She was employed with the Agronomy Department in the OSU College of Agriculture. She married James F. Myers Jr. in Stillwater in March 1993. In 1999 she opened Tiny Tots Daycare. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and was forced to close the daycare. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Vance Brown; grandparents, Wesley T. and Mamie Cox Marrs; and three nephews, Jeffrey King, Brett Dillahunty and Michael Salyer. She is survived by two sons, Chris Mahurin and Eric Myers, both of Stillwater; one daughter, Jennifer Schneider and her husband David of Coyle; two grandchildren, Noah and Autumn Schneider of Coyle, one brother, John M. Brown; and three sisters, Patsy Sober, Beverly Dillahunty and Colleen Shreve. Pallbearers will be Chris Mahurin, David Schneider, Rusty Sober, George Dillahunty, Rodney Norris and Monte Salyer. Cathey Harris H. Cathey, 84, formerly of Pocahontas, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Cole's Resthaven Nursing Home in Guthrie. Private services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home and interment will be in Pocahontas. He was born in Millville, Ark., Jan. 24, 1917, to John Bowman and Mary (Nowlin) Cathey. He married Wanda Lee Decker in 1942 in Camden, Ark. She preceded him in death in 1992. Cathey was a career U.S. Army officer. He was a decorated combat veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in December 1962 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At that time he and his wife established their home in Pocahontas, where they remained until he moved to Oklahoma in 2000 to be near his family. He was well known in Pocahontas for his dedication to the Head Start Program, where he read to the children and provided treats. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pocahontas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by two brothers, Sam Cathey of Edmond and John Cathey of Stillwater; and one sister, Georgia Lee Musselman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
