Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Yale. Rev. Steve Lopp and Michael Dershem will preside. The family will be at Yale-Palmer Funeral Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Friday to receive friends. Arrangements are being directed by Yale-Palmer Funeral Chapel. Haworth was born April 18, 1926, in Yale to Bert O. and Hattie Lee (Sparkman) Haworth. He was educated at Markham School and Yale High School. He married Darlynne Clemmons Oct. 31, 1948. He was a retired oil field worker and drilling contractor. He served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Yale for 57 years and was a deacon for many years. He worked at Camp Lela all summer on the new kitchen and fellowship hall. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Lucille Condit and one grandchild, Bradley Glenn. In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons, Gary Haworth and his wife of Burns Flat and Charles Haworth and his wife Susan of Sapulpa; two daughters, Linda Kearney and her husband Art of Topeka, Kan. and Patricia Glenn and her husband Billy of Tuskahoma; two brothers, Merl Haworth of Pawnee and Gene Haworth of Norman; two sisters, Maxine Harder and Helen Lorette, both of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund in Yale or to the Baptist Children's Home. Lila McElwain Lila Belle (Hoover) McElwain, 97, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002. Visitation will be Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Sunnybrook Christian Church. A second service will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Mooreland. Interment will be at Mooreland Cemetery. McElwain was born July 6, 1904, in a small farm house west of Mooreland. She spent her first 42 years in western Oklahoma as a wife and mother during a span covering two world wars and the great depression. She married Floyd McElwain, a WWI veteran, in June 1924. They had three children: a daughter, Glenna of Stillwater and two sons, Lt. Col. Emmett Doyle McElwain, Retired US Army, and his wife Joan of Byers and Lt. Col. Keith Franklin McElwain, Retired USAF, and his wife Martha of Edmond. Both sons were veterans at various times of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. She taught Sunday school classes, played piano for church services and organized and directed a Christmas pageant every year for many years. She organized young people's programs and built up the "Christian Endeavor." She was the last remaining charter member of the Mooreland Christina Church, dedicated in 1929. She started a Christian Church in Stillwater in her living room at 216 Duncan that eventually became the Ninth Avenue Christian Church, then eventually became the Sunnybrook Christian Church, which became the existing Sunnybrook Christian Church on Richmond Road. Always a good student, she graduated from a country school at 16 and was hired the next year to teach all 12 grades. During WWII, teachers were scarce and she filled in as a temporary teacher. When the war was over, she and Floyd moved to Stillwater where she enrolled at OSU. She was 42 and three years later she completed her teaching degree in mathematics. She accepted a math teaching position at Stillwater where she taught for 12 years. At age 54, she earned her Masters at OSU. In the next several years, she taught at Morrison, Big Cabin, Sedan, Kan., Long Island, N.Y. and Portland, Maine. While teaching at a private girls' school in Maine, she became fascinated with the rugged coast, sea, lighthouses and the artist's colony and took up painting. McElwain was an artist, a writer and a poet. Her writing and letters were clear and imaginative, but perhaps her interest in poetry was paramount. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandaughter. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sunnybrook Church building fund, 421 E. Richmond Road, Stillwater, OK 74075. ********************************************************************* Feb. 2, 2002 Wayne Ingram Wayne Ingram, 83, Stillwater, passed away Jan. 23, 2002, at the Stillwater Medical Center after a long illness. Services were held 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Cushing Christian Church, 302 S. Linwood. Funeral services were under the direction of Don Smith Funeral Home, Drumright. Russell Payne of Holdenville officiated. Serving as casketbearers were Bob Akers, Sam Koble, Jim Ramsey, Lawrence Carrier, Earl Miner and Tom Caldwell. Interment followed at the Euchee Valley Cemetery between Cushing and Drumright. He was born June 28, 1918, in Merrick to Robert and Cuba Ingram. The family moved to Drumright in 1922 to work in the oil fields. He married Kathryn Bell on Jan. 15, 1938. He attended Oklahoma State University and had a career in wholesale merchandising. He was dedicated to his work and his family and was an avid fisherman. He was an active member of the Christian Church and served in many capacities. He was a man of outstanding character and his compassion for people in need was known by the many who helped throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Edward and Kenneth. Survivors include Kathryn, his wife of 64 years, and two sons and their wives, Wallace and Phyllis, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Paul and Sandra, Stillwater. He is also survived by one brother, Bob Ingram, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Kathy Ingram, Austin, Texas, Kelly Craft, Odem, Texas, Wallace Ingram Jr., Austin, Texas, Christi Ingram, Stanford, Conn., Rob Ingram, New York City, Robin Riley, Edmond, Erin Ingram, Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren, Shannon Craft, Waco, Texas, Hunter Riley, Edmond, William Wallace Ingram and Samuel Wayne Ingram, Austin. She moved from Gilbert to Prue and then to Glencoe and lived most of her adult life on a farm. She was loved by many. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers *************************************************** Feb. 4, 2002 Mary Lillian Boyles Cushing resident Mary Lillian "Tommie" Boyles, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in Cushing. Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Memorial Chapel of Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Cushing. Boyles was born in Porum Oct. 18, 1918, to W.T. and Mary E. (Roe) Boles. She was raised in the Council Valley area and was one of six members of the graduating class of 1936 at Ripley High School. On Aug. 27, 1938, she married Morrison M. Boyles in Cushing. They made their home in Texas, where he was an employee of Firestone for more than 20 years. They eventually moved to Cushing, where he started the Morrison M. Boyles Oil Co. He died Feb. 1, 1985. Boyles was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one grandson, Gregory Scott McFarlin; two sisters; and two brothers. Turner was born in Agra July 12, 1910, to Allen F. and Viola May (Maddox) Turner. He was raised and educated in Agra. He married Orpha Vivian Rider on May 6, 1933, in Cushing. They lived in Farmington, N.M., before returning to Cushing in 1976. She died Feb. 11, 2001. Turner was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed going to the Keenager activities at the church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Good Sam Club and enjoyed camping and fishing. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. She wed Palmer L. Sadler Aug. 13, 1938, in Stillwater. She was raised on a farm and lived on a farm during her married years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family, cooking, gardening, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Perkins and loved singing in the choir. She also served on the food committee for many years. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband; one son, Jerry Sadler and his wife Doris of Perkins; two daughters, Leola Gray and her husband Jody of Edmond and Vickie Lockwood and her husband Lyle of Perkins; four grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. He was reared and educated in Arkansas. He was in the U.S. Army serving during World War II. After his discharge, he worked as a construction worker. After his retirement, Beck lived in Stillwater for about five years before moving to Cushing in 1996. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Pearl Hancock and to this union one son, Robert, was born. Later in life he married Alpha Joy Statzer. Beck enjoyed gardening with his vegetables and flowers but his favorite hobby was prospecting while using his "witching rod." A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church. Father Joseph Townsend will officiate and Pastor Emlyn Ott will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. She was born Sept. 29, 1909, in a farmhouse near Humboldt, Kan., to Simon and Victoria (Strubhart) Klotzbach. She was the youngest of nine children. Her mother died when she was two years old and she was raised at a nearby farm by an aunt and uncle. She attended school in Humboldt and graduated in June, 1928. She was valedictorian of her class and a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from Parsons Business College in 1929 and became a secretary with Shell Oil Company in Tulsa. While working for Shell Oil Company she met her future husband, Clayton Lytle. They were married Nov. 11, 1934. After company transfers to McPherson and Wichita, they lived in Tulsa for 14 years. She worked for Douglas Aircraft as a secretary for a department head. After being transferred to Littleton, Colo., she took a secretarial position with Martin Marietta. In 1967, the couple moved to Stillwater where for seven years she worked as an administrative secretary in the school of architecture at Oklahoma State University. She retired in 1975. She was always involved in her children's activities from scouting to PTA. She was also active in church programs, women's clubs and the Election Board. She gave willing and lovingly to family friends and community and was a talented seamstress and homemaker. In addition to her husband of 65 years she was predeceased by an infant son Richard; four sisters, Mary, Margaret, Josephine and Katherine; and four brothers, Will, George, Frank and Martin. She lived in Quay from her birth until she was three when she and her family moved to Stillwater. She married James Graybill in 1945. The couple divorced and Graybill died Oct. 31, 1981. She then married Van Kilgore in 1955; he died March 17, 1975. Kilgore was a cook for the middle school. She belonged to Helping Hands and Rebecca Lodge. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, as well as both husbands. He married Linda Kay (Easton) in Stillwater June 5, 1978. He had lived in Shamrock prior to moving to Perkins in 1996. Bearden was supervisor of maintenance and transportation at the Ripley schools until his retirement in 1998 at which time he went to worked for Overland Express in Stillwater. He was a member of the Shamrock Baptist Church and enjoyed working on his van, remote cars and loved the Dallas Cowboys. She was a volunteer at Stillwater Medical Center for over 20 years. She belonged to the Jim Richardson Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church and always considered herself a member despite her move to Little Rock. In the 1940s and 1950s, they traveled over much of the United States as members of a seismograph crew with Young Exploration of Oklahoma City. A graduate of Perry High School, he was a lifelong resident of the Perry community. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He married Collene Paulsen June 4, 1949, in Newkirk. Anderson owned Western Tank Trucks from 1957-74 and was Noble County Commissioner from 1979-86. A charter member of the Perry Elks Lodge, he also was a member of the 10th Armored Division, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, FFA Alumni and the Black Angus Association. He was a lifetime member of the Cherokee Strip Historical Society. He enjoyed cattle ranching and horse racing. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother. He attended Stillwater High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam Conflict in Hanoi. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He married Judy Galloway in 1969. They lived in Yale, and he worked for the city of Stillwater and did oil field work. They also lived in Cole and Stillwater. After divorce, he moved to Stillwater, where he worked for Hauf Salvage. He married Debbie Simpson on Nov. 3, 1983, in Miami. He then worked as a bridge foreman for Payne County for 15 years before retiring because of a disability. Slavens enjoyed restoring cars and trucks, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a Baptist. He was predeceased by his father. She was born March 11, 1912, to William and Amanda Fowler Cross in Mulhall where she spent her early years. She graduated from Mulhall High School in 1931. Zimmerman spent her working years enjoying friends and co-workers retiring from T G&Y in 1977. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands J.K. Daves, Alva V. Dishman, Orbin Baumgardner; seven sisters, Lottie, Audrey, Mable, Della, Edna, Gladys and Dorothy and two brothers, Charlie and Raymond. Ben Bragg Jr. Ben Bragg Jr., 80, Cushing, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Bob Vaught will officiate. Interment will follow at the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. Bragg was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Kiowa to Ben F. Bragg Sr. and Lorine (Bosmyer) Bragg. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Muskogee where they lived until moving to Cushing in late 1939. He graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1940. Bragg was married to Phyllis Anne Fitzgerald of Muskogee March 4, 1945. She preceded him in death April 18, 1989, after 44 years of marriage. He later married Patricia Eileen Duncan July 31, 1990. She preceded in death March 18, 2000. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1948 with a degree in business administration. While attending OU, his college education was interrupted by serving in World War II. He served as a Naval Aviator and as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve. Bragg continued to serve on inactive duty in the reserve after the war until 1958, attaining the rank of major. Bragg became a Certified Public Accountant in January 1950, Oklahoma Certificate No. 672. He returned to Cushing about that time where he was employed by Foster Drilling Company. In early 1953, he began a career overseas with a major international oil company and for the following 20 years lived and worked in 11 countries, including Australia, South Africa, Japan and Libya, serving in auditing and controller positions. Bragg returned to the company's New York headquarters in 1973 where he assumed responsibilities for his employer's auditing operations in Far East, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East during which he traveled overseas extensively. He retired in November 1981 and returned to Cushing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cushing Lodge No. 111, Scottish Rite, American Institute of CPAs, Oklahoma Society of CPAs, Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and the Rotary Club. In addition to his parents and both wives, Bragg is preceded in death by one sister, Patti Bragg Taylor. Bragg is survived by his half sister, Judy Bragg, Wadley, Tulsa; three nephews, three nieces, two step-sons, five step-daughters and other relatives and relatives and friends. Serving as casket bearers will be Charles F. Foster Jr., Robert C. Jones, James Lavery, Joseph P. Farrell, William A. Ahrberg Sr. and Grant McNeal. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the McCafferty- Bolick-Green Funeral Home in Blackwell. Rev. Joe Howard, Lamont Christian Church, will officiate. Brooks was born May 26, 1912, in Lamont to George E. and Verna (Harrison) Brooks. He attended Lamont Schools and graduated Lamont High School in 1931. After graduation, he attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan. On Nov. 10, 1932, he was united in marriage to Anna Bergman in Cherokee. To this union, Edwin (Sonny) Klahs Brooks was born. In the late 1930s, the couple operated a cafe in Lamont before moving to a farm southeast of Lamont in 1937. He was employed by the Wetmore Mfg. and Williams Machine in Tonkawa. He was also a farmer and dairyman, retiring in 1973. He then moved to Tonkawa. After retirement, they spent the winters in Harlingon, Texas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. She passed away July 8, 1987. On Oct. 7, 1989, he married Glenna Mae Carruth at Blackwell, where they made their home. She preceded him in death in October 1999. For the past two years, he has lived in Stillwater making his home with his son and daughter-in- law. Besides being a longtime member of the First Christian Church, he enjoyed visiting with friends, family, fishing, playing cards, dancing and gardening. Brooks is preceded in death by his parents and both wives. He is survived by his son, Edwin K. Brooks and wife Arlene, Stillwater; two stepdaughters, Joquita Wallen and husband Mike, Ponca City , Joyce Courtney and husband Martin, Blackwell; three granddaughters, Debra Conkling and husband Mark, Clinton, Dana Whitson and husband Larry, Stillwater, Denise Brooks and friend Mark Glaze, Morrison; five step grandchildren, Scott, Chris and Jeff Wallen, Jill and Chad Courtney; four great grandchildren, Gavin and Aaron Conkling, Kinzi Whitson, Devin Wallen; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bergman, Blackwell. Beda Doree West Former Cushing resident Beda Doree West, 96, of Denison, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Denison. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, Rev. Kevin Clouse, First Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. She was born near Norman Sept. 17, 1905, to Louis P. and Eva J. Simpson. Her parents later moved to Cordell where she was reared and educated. She graduated from Cordell High School in 1925. West later moved to Oklahoma City where she was employed for several years in various capacities at a large merchandising department store. On Sept. 17, 1953, she married Roy Dell West in Oklahoma City. They met when they were doing volunteer work at the hospitals and other community services for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After they were married, she became active in the ladies auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was elected national historian for the years 1960- 61. The couple continued to live in Oklahoma City until 1976 when they moved to their home on Lake Texoma near Pottsboro, Texas. After he died April 1, 1994, West lived at their home for about a year before moving to Wesley Village, a planned retirement community for senior adults. She was a member of the First Church of God in Cushing, Eastern Star Chapter 157 of Cushing and had been a member of AARP group for more than 25 years. West was a charter member of the business and professional Women's Club of Cordell, member of the Rebekah Lodge for more than 60 years, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home in Eastern Rapids, Mich., for children of veterans who served overseas during the wars and a member of the 1857 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Oklahoma City for more than 50 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Vera Morgan; one brother, Dexter Simpson and one nephew, Cecil Simpson. Ben David Staley Ben David Staley Sr., 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at an Oklahoma City hospital after a period of declining health. Staley was born Jan. 7, 1914, at Geary, to George Washington and Stella Lee Rollins Staley. He grew up in Geary and dropped out of school as a teenager to work in the cotton fields. Staley lived most of his adult life in Oklahoma City where he drove for Western Gillette Truck Lines, retiring in 1974 after 31 years of service. He was a member of Brookline Baptist Church and Teamsters Union No. 886. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Joe and Ed; five sisters, Eula, Rosie, Myrtle, Betty and Katherine; and two grandchildren, Keisha and Brenda. Anderson was born Dec. 23, 1914, to Frank and Lillie Anderson in Carney. To this union was born another son, Kelsey, who died Feb. 8, 1977. Anderson was called Andy by many of his friends. He grew up and went through school in Tryon and attended the A&M College and Central State College. He married Joan Macklin Dec. 25, 1936. To this union was born one daughter, Peggy Joan Anderson. Joan died May 19, 1960 and Peggy died Oct. 12, 1964. Anderson married Billye Louise Collard April 22, 1961. He was a member of the Tryon Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, Tryon Alumni Association and served on the board of trustees for the H. I. Jones Scholarship Fund. He started publishing the Tryon Alumni Banner Newspaper in 1983. This was a labor of love for him to write stories and gather information for the paper, so that the Alumni Association could stay active even though the last graduating class was in 1967. He was a proficient writer and many of his articles appeared in the NewsPress. Anderson was a salesman for Van's Auto Supply in Oklahoma City for 35 years, where he was co-owner for 18 years. He retired in 1980. He and his second wife built a home near Carney on the land that was homesteaded by his grandfather. In January of 1992, they moved to Stillwater. He joined the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason, active in Toastmaster, Lincoln County on Stage and the Lincoln County Arts and Humanities Council. He was also a member of the Evening Lions Club in Stillwater. Anderson is survived by his wife of the home; two nephews, Andy Macklin of Highland Park, Texas and Ronnie Macklin of Fairfield, Conn.; and one niece, Glenda Whitsett of Tulsa. The couple spent the first 13 years of their marriage in Vici and Talala and then moved to California for two years. They moved to Cheyenne in July 1942 to make their home. She was a member of the Cheyenne United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, a daughter, grandson, one granddaughter in-law, three sisters, four brothers and three half sisters. Clarence Fredrick James Ponca City resident Clarence Fredrick James, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Ponca City Nursing Home Services with Dr. Bill Chace presiding will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Strode Chapel. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Sumner. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Gallatin, Mo., to Clarence and Katherine (Frank) James. He married Ida Mae Baird Sept. 22, 1957. She died Aug. 18, 1997. He attended the Oklahoma School for the Blind at Muskogee where he graduated from high school. While at the school he worked in the dairy barn and was there when a tornado hit April 12, 1945. He then attended Oklahoma A and M where he met his future wife. The couple lived in Oklahoma City where they owned and operated a snack bar in the Connors building of the state Capitol complex. He retired in 1985. They were well known around the Capitol complex and had hundreds of legislative friends. The couple also had six rent houses which they maintained with the help of friends and relatives. He was very active in the Lions Club in Oklahoma City and was given a life membership in the club. He was a main figure in raising money for the Lions Boys Ranch, south of Perkins. He was predeceased by his wife. Survivors include two brothers, Collins E. James and his wife Frances of Ponca City and Lenard F. James of Stillwater; and nieces and nephews, Galen James and his wife Nancy of Plano, Texas, Dennis James and his wife Terri, Donna Jones and her husband Kevin, and Randell James and his wife Myra, all of Morrison; Sherry Siebert and her husband Mark of Houston, Texas, Brenda Staley and her husband Jeff of San Mateo, Calif.; and a number of other family members and friends. Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home. Bob Vaught will officiate. Burial will be at the New Zion Cemetery in Cushing. Evans was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Washington, Kan., to Charles Ray James and Florence Culp James. She came to Oklahoma with her parents in 1915, riding with her mother on a train while her father traveled with a team of horses and a wagon. She attended Cushing schools, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1932. She later attended Kansas State University, majoring in chemistry She was united in marriage to Calvin H. Evans April 7, 1934, in Stillwater and to this union two children, Lois and Judy, were born. Her husband worked for Shell Oil company for 29 years and the family traveled all over the world with his work. He died in June 1968. Evans was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the Wesley Sunday school class and belonged to the Katherine Liu Circle. She enjoyed gospel music, hosting family dinners and telling stories of her youth. Many of these tales included adventures of farm life and traveling by horse and buggy with her mother, who taught at Harmony School. She worked for several years in the Cushing School lunch program, serving as a cook. She always took special interest in these elementary students, who seemed to need a little attention from a caring adult. For her daughters, she was the ultimate car pool mom, Girl Scout leader, home room mother and any other role they needed her to perform. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Marvin James, Stroud; brother-in-law, Ronald Kerby, Hennessey; and sister-in- law, Louise James, Macon, Ga. Evans is survived by her daughters, Lois Fisher, Branson, Mo. and Judy McCombs and husband William (Bud), Eufaula; brother, Melvin James, Macon, Ga.; sister, Carol Kerby, Hennessey; sister-in-law, Marcene James, Stroud; granddaughter, Kathy Pollard and husband Thalbert (Snook), Mannford; great granddaughter, Shanese Pollard; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Hough, 74, a former Cushing resident, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Hough and Alice (Harris) Hough on May 2, 1927 in Cushing. He was reared and educated in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge in August 1946, he returned to Oklahoma, where he attended Oklahoma City University and graduated in 1950. He married Patsy Ruth Aldrich on June 10, 1946 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. As a young man, he attended the First Baptist Church and later in life became a member of the St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Cushing. He was the manager of the Credit Bureau of Cushing for many years and before his retirement, was employed by the Oklahoma State University Athletic Department. He served as an officer in the District Cub Scouts, coached Cushing Youth Center football and was a former member of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce and Cushing Lion's Club. He and his wife taught country dance lessons for schools, clubs and other organizations all over the state. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mearle Raffety, Olive Failing and Norma Davis; and one brother, Lewis Hough. He is survived by his wife, of the home; one daughter, Tandy Wilhoit and her husband, Alton, of Harrah; one son, Patrick Hough and his wife, Stephanie, of Moore; two grandchildren, Jennifer Clem and her husband, Jason, of Nicoma Park, and Jason Vincent of Edmond; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Hough and Tiffany Hough of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Hays was born March 29, 1946, to Neil and Juanita (Mitchell) Hays in Stillwater. He married Rhonda George Jan. 29, 1972. Hays attended and graduated from C. E. Donart High School (now Stillwater High School) in 1962. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and upon his honorable discharge he returned to Stillwater in Nov. 1966 and began his 34 year career with the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He later became a supervisor and retired from the Postal Service in February of 2001. He greatly enjoyed racing cars as a younger man and had an extensive collection of die-cast cars and other automotive memorabilia. In recent years, he enjoyed computer-related activities, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Timers Car Club of Stillwater. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Damon L. Hays of Portland, Ore. and Trent M. Zetterberg was born April 27, 1957, to Ralph and Jean (Mehan) Zetterberg Jr. at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville, Ill. As an infant, he moved with his family to Mehan where he grew up attending Ripley Public Schools, graduating in 1975. He married Suzi Courtright June 18, 1977, in Stillwater. The marriage later ended in divorce. Zetterberg worked for 24 years at National Standard Corporation where he was maintenance supervisor. His hobbies included restoring old cars, fishing and building computer systems for family and friends. He was planning a new home on his small farm in Perry. His life was centered around his two young daughters and their many school and extracurricular activities. He was a member of Mehan Union Church. Zetterberg was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, May and Perry Mehan; his paternal grandparents, Mabel and Ralph A. Zetterberg Sr.; a sister, Susan Gail Zetterberg; and his oldest brother, Ralph A. Zetterberg, III. Ronald Simpson Sr. Ronald Joseph Simpson Sr., 48, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, after a long and painful battle with cancer. Services will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren, Ark. He was born Aug. 29, 1953, to Roy and Helen Tinker Simpson. He came to Stillwater, six weeks later following his mother's death. Simpson graduated from C.E. Donart High School (now Stillwater High School) in 1972. He then went to Okmulgee Tech graduating into the field of upholstery. He married Doris Jeanne Tyrrell June 14, 1973, in Kansas. There was one daughter from this union, Helen Christine. He married Elizabeth Rae Doyel June 1, 1989, in Texas. They had two children, KelliRae Elizabeth and Ronald Joseph Jr. After working in Tulsa doing auto upholstery, he returned to Stillwater where he worked for several years at Leon's Auto Trim. He then became a die-caster at Mercury Marine where he worked until his death. He was a member of the Stillwater Masonic Lodge, Stillwater Chapter 14 Royal Arch Masons, Stillwater Council 50, St. John's Commandery 8 of the Knights Templar, Guthrie Scottish Rite, India Temple Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. and the order of the Amaranth. He was also an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, rarely missing a Sunday. He helped care for his mother-in-law, Betty H. Doyel, for the final years of her life. He enjoyed driving his little orange Shrine car in parades, riding his Harley FXRT, going to runs, playing on the computer, spending time with his children and napping with his favorite cats. Ruth Nadina Karcher Ruth Nadina Karcher, 77, Stillwater, formerly of Perry, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Grace Living Center in Stillwater. She was the daughter of Frank Christmas Jordan and Thelma Martha Bozarth and was born Oct. 12, 1924, at Middleburg. She was a graduate of Perry High School. On June 2, 1951, she and Oswald Herman Karcher were married in Perry. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She and her husband owned and operated the bus station in the 1950s and the OK Cafe in the late 1960s. She later worked at the 89er Restaurant and retired from the restaurant business while working at the Cherokee Strip. She was active in the local Democratic Party and enjoyed working the elections for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Margie Van Brunt, her parents and two grandchildren. He loved the Lord, his wife, children and grandchildren with a passion, and was a wonderful teacher of moral values. He also enjoyed the land, his cattle and had a great respect for nature. He married Virginia L. Pitts on March 28, 1942, in San Bernardino, Calif. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of technical sergeant. He served his country during wartime in European, North Africa and Middle Eastern campaigns; he earned the bronze star and other campaign medals and accommodations. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee and elder and was a member of men's club. He was a former president of the Aid Association for Lutherans and was active in the Lutheran Laymen's League. He enjoyed both his church and work. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with interment to follow in Grace Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. He was the son of Louis Frances and Georgianna Edmundson and was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Midvale, Idaho. He married Lois Jean Spears Sept. 5, 1949, in Shawnee. He was a veteran of the United States Army with the rank of Lieutenant serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a 1943 graduate of Oklahoma A&M were he received his bachelor's degree. In 1949, after the war, he reenrolled at Oklahoma A&M and graduated in 1954 with his degree in veterinary medicine. While at Oklahoma A&M he was the first recipient of the Dean McElroy Award for Outstanding Veterinary Student. He was past president of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, 1988 Oklahoma Veterinarian of the Year and was the 1992 Perry Citizen of the Year. He was an adult leader with the Noble County 4-H and FFA Chapters and a founding member of the Cherokee Strip Saddle Club. He served on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, First National Bank and Trust, Perry Memorial Hospital and the YMCA. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was a past board chairman. His wife, parents and one brother preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Wade Edmundson and his wife Charlotte of Tulsa and Todd Edmundson of Dallas, Texas; one grandson, Ryan Edmundson of Tulsa; one granddaughter, Erin Edmundson of Tulsa; one brother, Neil Edmundson of Arkansas and one sister, Mabel Edmundson of Chickasha. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Perry and the Noble County YMCA. Don Driggs Don Driggs, 80, Cushing, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Chapel of Davis Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. Driggs was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Cushing, to William W. Driggs and Ida Leora (Bailey) Driggs. He was reared and educated in Cushing. He was united in marriage to Juanita Davis Nov. 9, 1940, in Cushing. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as Seaman Second Class. He received his honorable discharge Nov. 11, 1945. After Driggs returned from World War II, he and his family lived near San Diego, Calif., where he worked at Camp Pendleton. He worked there and in the Fallbrook, Calif., area up until his retirement in 1971. The family then moved back to Cushing where Driggs started helping his father and brothers by painting homes in the Cushing area. After receiving his GED, he moved to Lanham, Md., where he entered Washington Bible College, later graduating with a BA degree. He was united in marriage to Kathrine Howe Oct. 21, 1945, in Washington, D.C. He and his new family continued living in the Maryland area where he served the Lord by being a pastor in the local church. They eventually moved to Cushing in 1985, where he began pastoring in the Cushing Baptist Temple in 1986. He continued to pastor at the church for over 15 years. He enjoyed studying scriptures, gardening and traveling. Kendle is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Pierce, Chet and Noble. He is survived by his wife, Kathrine, of the home; son, Timothy Kendle, Fredericksburg, Va.; two step-sons, Doug M. Howe and wife Dolores, Independence, Mo. and Warren G. The couple then moved to Pawnee from Stilwell. He served in the Navy from 1943 until 1946 and was honorably discharged as a machinist mate second class. Soon after moving to Pawnee he began his 52 year barbering career. He served as president on the Oklahoma Barber Board and as a member of the Pawnee School Board. He also served on the Pawnee City Council; Pawnee Chamber of Commerce; Pawnee Lions Club; a member of the Pawnee Historical Society; and was past president of the Pawnee Golf Course.. Woodward was an avid golfer and was instrumental in the building of the Pawnee Golf Course. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Ernest, Earl, Howard and Harold Woodward; and one sister, Anna Bradford. Frank Sharpley Frank Lewis Sharpley, 66, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at his Perkins home. After his discharge, he returned to Perkins where he enjoyed farming and ranching for many years. Many in Perkins knew his as the watermelon man from the festivals that were held each year. Tom Carey Tom Carey, 73, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Stillwater Medical Center, following a car accident. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Strode Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Carey was born April 18, 1928, to Dell and Viola Carey in Binger. He was a graduate from Oklahoma State University receiving his B.S. and masters degree in agriculture sciences. While at OSU, Carey met his future wife, Carolyn Pearson. Carey was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and Pearson was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. He was an FFA instructor at David City, Neb., Ravana, Neb., Butler, Sickles, Quay, Calif., Guthrie and Dover. He produced over 100 state champion judging teams. He was awarded the Valley Forge Teachers Medal for contribution to youth leadership in 1964, the National FFA Honorary American Farmer Degree in 1973, Outstanding Vo-Ag Teacher in 1974, the first annual OSU Athletic Department Honorary Wrestling Team member in 1986 and he was awarded the No. 1 OSU Fan in 1988. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, brotherhood chairman, Sunday school superintendent Bible school superintendent, outreach director and Sunday school teacher. Currently, he was a member of Eagle Heights Baptist Church. He and his wife spent time every year doing missionary work in Puerto Vallarto, Mexico. Carey was an avid OSU fan, sports fan and a perfectionist at teaching and coaching young children to play to the best of their ability. He spent many hours working with the Morrison youth exercising his passion for sports. He is survived by his wife of the home; one brother, Gerald and his wife, Charlotte of Binger; one sister, Maxine McCullogh of Weatherford; one son, David Carey, his wife Barbara and grandsons, Joshua and Seth of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Paula Doyle, her husband Bill, grandson, Adam, granddaughter, Alicia, her husband Scott and two great-grandsons, Ian and Braden of Salado, Texas; one daughter, Linda Shiever, her husband Vance, grandson, Beau and granddaughter, Lindsey of Morrison. Hann was born May 25, 1915, to Ezera Scott and Rena Belle (Wise) Scott in Warner. She married Glenn B. Tunnell Jan. 20, 1934, at the First Baptist Church in Claremore. He died Sept. 7, 1966. She married Lyle Ray Hann Sept. 3, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nev. He died April 29, 1983. Hann attended school at Warner. After marrying Glenn Tunnell, the couple lived in Locust Grove when their first son, Beuford Leroy, was born in Tulsa. In 1940, the couple moved to LaVerne, Calif. Later, they moved to Seal Beach, Calif., where their daughter, Patricia Ann and son, Edward Calvin were born. In 1945, they moved to El Monte, Calif., where their children grew up, were educated in public schools and attended church at El Monte Foursquare Church. Hann was a good manager of her household, physically and spiritually. She financially expanded their household by buying investment property, from which she continued to be financially supported until her death. After her husband died, she became a caretaker of others. She then purchased a home in Tryon in order to care for her mother and sister. She loved spending time reading the Bible and was an accomplished seamstress. Hann was predeceased by her parents and both husbands. She is survived by two sons, Beuford Leroy Tunnell of California and Edward Calvin Tunnell of Tryon; one daughter, Patricia Ann Rubottom and her husband Nolan of West Covina, Calif.; five grandchildren, Cynthia English of Woodsfield, Ohio, Anthony, Bryon and Kevin Tunnell of El Monte, Calif., and Ray Rubottom of Oregon; three great grandchildren, Nikolle Whisler and Michael and Christopher English of Woodsfield, Ohio; and one sister, Rosie Pittser of Tryon. Edith Porter Yale resident Edith A. Porter, 90, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Pawnee Hospital. Graveside services, with Rev. John Curtis presiding, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson Cemetery, north of Yale. Yale-Palmer Funeral Chapel is directing the arrangements. She was born in Hallett Dec. 16, 1911, to Pearl and Pearl (Ausbrook) Grantham. She received her early education in Hallett. She married Virgil McMillan. The couple had one daughter, Maxine. She later married James T. Porter. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1949 and lived there until 1995 when she returned to Yale. She worked in the radiology department at the Oklahoma Allergy Clinic in Oklahoma City and attended the Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, George Grantham. Bailey, 90, Stillwater, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. March 15 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. He was born in Roscoe, Ohio, Jan. 17, 1912, to William T. and Estella Bailey. He attended schools in Ohio and completed his masters degree at Yale University where he was a star lacrosse player. He was also nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship. He retired after more than 25 years as a sales manager for an Industrial Metals division of ASARCO, Inc. He and his wife, Laura, have been members of the Stillwater Country Club for almost 20 years where they enjoyed playing golf together. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three daughters, Mary Bailey, Joan Fitzgerald and Janet Zimple; a brother, Roy Bailey; and a sister, Bernice Thomas. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Bailey; five step- daughters, Marilyn Brown, Linda Edwards, Diana Plemons, Susie Lorenson and Anita Phillips; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. ******************************************************* William Herman Mooreland William Herman Mooreland, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Macedonia C.M.E. Church in Cushing. Rev. Jennettia P. Marshall and Rev. David Burgess will officiate. Interment will follow in the Silver Star Lodge Cemetery in Cushing. Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Cushing. Mooreland was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Quitman, Texas. He was one of seven children born to Herman and Jerrina (Johnson) Mooreland. He professed his hope in Christ at an early age. He was a member of the Macedonia Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Langston University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and was stationed at Ft. Sill and was a master sergeant in the field artillery division. Mooreland was currently a resident of the Rest Haven Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a sister, Elgie Ruth Moreland of Cushing, several cousins and other relatives and friends including Cecil Mooreland and his family.
