Johnson, 76, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City. Services, with Dr. B. Gordon Edwards presiding, will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will meet at the Strode Hospitality Center prior to the service. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Stillwater April 27, 1926, to John H. and Anna Belle (Coburn) Johnson. He was raised in Stillwater and attended Stillwater Public Schools. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1944 and completed his high school work in 1948. He served in World War II as a combat infantryman and saw duty in the Pacific Theater. After he was discharged, he met Evelyn Pearl Sneed and they were married March 30, 1947. They had three sons and one daughter. He was a painting and decorating contractor and owned Johnson Painting Company for 40 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served many years as a trustee and volunteering for the maintenance committee. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 17 years. In 1992, he and a group of classmates founded the Stillwater High School Alumni Association. He was the association's chairman for several years. He was a charter member of Quail Unlimited and the American Home Builders. He was also a member of the American Painting and Decoration Contractors of America and in the 1950s he put together a pricing manual for all types of surfaces. He was a Little League baseball coach and was an active Stillwater Pioneers supporter. He was also a member of the American Legion, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Lions Club. He was predeceased by his parents and step parents, Joe Sampley and Hazel Johnson. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by three sons, Max Johnson Jr. of Stillwater, Johnny Johnson and his wife Shelley of Mansfield, Texas and Lynn Johnson and his wife Rhonda of Stillwater; a daughter, Gay Yvonne Johnson of the home; a brother, Buddy G. Johnson and his wife Lou Ann of Glencoe; three half brothers, J.R. Johnson and his wife Rosemary of Goleta, Calif., Don Lee Johnson of Santa Maria, Calif. and Gary Johnson and his wife Doris of Calif.; six grandchildren, five step great granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Scott E. Johnson, Ben Johnson, Colby Johnson, Nick Brent Johnson, Carrie Davis and Kelly Johnson. Condolences may be e-mailed the family at strodefh@aol.com *********************************************************************** Nov. 2, 2002 William Comer 'Bill' Bedingfield William Comer "Bill" Bedingfield, owner of the Wil-Mar Construction Co., and Wil-Mar Angus Ranch, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at age 84. The son of the late Clyde M. Bedingfield and Willie Kathryn Wall Bedingfield, Bill was born March 30, 1918 in Pocasset, Okla., and was reared and educated in Oklahoma City, graduating from Foster High School and attended college in Oklahoma City. Bill was a true businessman, contractor, Angus rancher, Angus leader, world traveler, "avid" OU fan, friend and father. As an Angus leader and Angus breeder, he was dedicated to the Oklahoma Angus Association and the American Angus Association. Bill gave 100 percent to both associations. He was elected and served as president of the American Angus Association in 1984 and served as a national director for six years. He was a contractor in the pre-engineered building business "all" his life. Bill is survived by his wife Joyce of the home in Cushing; one son Robert K. Bedingfield and his wife Nancy of Oklahoma City; one daughter Karen Branstetter and husband Harold of Oklahoma City; one sister, Opal Ruth Rosso and her husband Jim of McAlester; one brother Frank Bedingfield and his wife Nola of Norman; three grandchildren, Brian Bedingfield and his wife Lisa and Robert Marsee, Jr. both of Oklahoma City and Jalynn Youngberg (Marcee) and her husband Reverend Roland Youngberg of Cherokee; two great-granddaughters, Carly Amelia Youngberg of Cherokee and Laci Bedingfield of Oklahoma City; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, his first wife Mary preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at 2 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Verlyn Snell, pastor, officiating. Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home. Freda Oma Edgar Palmer Pawnee resident Freda Oma Edgar Palmer, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Pawnee Hospital. Services, with Rev. Tom Scott presiding, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Pawnee. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. She was born northwest of Chandler on Dec. 3, 1908, to Joseph and Mary Rachal (Miller) Edgar. She was raised in the rural home of her grandparents Frank V. and Susan Miller. She married Lee Claflin Palmer on June 23, 1928, in Sapulpa. He died on Sept. 12, 1993. The couple moved to Pawnee in 1940. She received her elementary education in the Oak Grove School District and graduated from Chandler High School in 1927. In 1931, she received her teaching certificate from Central State Teachers College in Edmond. She spent the next two years teaching in the elementary school from which she had graduated as a youngster. After moving to Pawnee, she and her husband opened Palmer Auto Store. Their slogan was "Got Everything." The operation continued until they retired in 1969. She was involved in many community activities, clubs and civic organizations. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pawnee for 56 years and served in many departments. In addition to her husband, parents and grandparents she was predeceased by one sister. She is survived by two special families Bobby Joe, Suzanne, Gabe and Katie Miller all of Pawnee and Bill and June King of Stillwater and many nieces, nephews, several members of the Miller family and many friends. Dwight E. Whorton Lakin, Kan., resident Dwight E. Whorton, 70, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. Services, with Charles Curly and Buster Cockrum presiding, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at New Covenant Fellowship Church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mills Funeral Home, McAlester, is directing the arrangements. He was born in Stillwater on Dec. 2, 1931, to Monroe S. and Elsie E. (Gillaspie) Whorton. He married Mary Ann Mooney on March 14, 1964, in Stillwater. He grew up in Hallet and returned to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma A&M College. After college, he enlisted in the Army and served three years. He graduated from the Army War College before entering the Army Reserve. He worked for the National Guard and the Army Reserve before he became a loan officer with the ASCS in Norman, Dewey and Stillwater. He then went to work for the Farmers Home Administration and eventually moved to McAlester as the district director in the Wilburton office. He retired in 1992. He also retired as a colonel from the Army Reserve 95th Division. He lived in Lakin for the past year. He was a member of The Gideon's, American Legion, Reserve Officers Association and a lifetime member of the Army War College Alumni. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Everett Whorton and Duty Whorton, and one sister Dilla Worthington. In addition to his wife of the home he is survived by three daughters Deanna Sage of McAlester, Mary E. Gianetti and her husband Richard of Stillwater and Laura Lea Lance and her husband Tommy of Hartshorne; one sister Lilly Duane McNabb and her husband Everett of Surrey Hills; a sister-in-law Liz Unruh and her husband Gene of Deer Field, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. *********************************************************************** Nov. 3, 2002 Barbara Walker Barbara Jean Walker, 73, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Services, with Rev. Stanley Warfield and her brother, Robert Fosburgh presiding, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Kellyville Cemetery in Kellyville. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. She was born in Kellyville Jan. 28, 1929, to Wilbur Ancil and Sylvia Adena (Chapman) Fosburgh. She married Charles Henry Walker June 8, 1947, in Kellyville She attended school in Kellyville and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1946. She then enrolled in Tulsa Business College and attended there until 1947 when she became secretary for the Tulsa County superintendent of schools. She resigned that position in 1948 to join her husband who was attending classes at Oklahoma State University. She was a secretary in the Department of Agricultural Economics from January 1948 until the couple moved to Oklahoma City in Sept. 1951. In Oklahoma City she was employed part time by the Central Oklahoma Milk Producers Association. She retired in 1952 to raise her family. They returned to Stillwater in 1963 and in 1967 she went to work in the Office of the Dean, College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology. She held various positions in that office including secretary to three deans. She retired in 1988 after 21 years. Prior to her retirement she served one year on the Staff Advisory Council at OSU. She was active in the Stillwater Chapter of Professional Secretaries International and was twice selected Secretary of the Year. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was predeceased by her parents. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Charles Brian Walker and his wife Margaret of Meeker; three daughters, Kathy Lynn Glandt and her husband Douglas L. of Fair Haven, N.J., Suzanne Tarrant and her husband John of Kremlin and Sharon Kay Triplet and her husband Sylvester of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Sylas Walker of Meeker, Geoffrey and Bethany Glandt of Fair Haven, Crystal and Courtney Triplet of Oklahoma City, and Michael B. and Christy Tarrant of Stillwater; two great-grandchildren, Asa and Gage Tarrant of Stillwater; two brothers, Robert L. Smith, 77, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at his Stillwater residence. Services, with Bill Inglish and Gary Layman presiding, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Clarksville, Texas, Jan. 1, 1925, to Joel Frazier and Edith (Gentry) Smith. He married Juanita Emery Sept. 6, 1942, in Hugo. He grew up on a dairy farm in Clarksville and worked in the milk business in Midland, Texas, and Crane, Texas, before he moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, in 1975 where he went into full-time ministry. He was a member of the Christian Church for nearly 70 years and served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and lay minister for many years. He served as trustee for Dallas Christian College and Colegio Biblico in Eagle Pass and was interim president of Colegio Biblico for one year prior to taking the position of business administrator, a position he held for 15 years until he retired. He recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary doing his favorite activity, going to church with his wife where Minister Bill Inglish recognized Johnnie and Juanita for 60 faithful years of devotion to each other. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and often referred to his favorite Bible scripture, Psalm 127, "Children are a reward from God, blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." He was a spiritual giant who is leaving his children and grandchildren a rich spiritual heritage. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Crane and Eagle Pass where he served as president and treasurer. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers Robert and Forest Smith; and one sister, Edith Mary Beth Beaty. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lawson Cemetery, north of Yale. John Curtis will preside. There will be private viewing for the family only. Services are under the direction of the Yale-Palmer Funeral Chapel. She was born April 15, 1939, in Choctaw County, Mississippi to Robert and Mattie (Williams) Hood. She married Edward Ramage Dec. 30, 1953; she later married Delvin Wadley June 10, 1979. She was a member of the Council Valley Baptist Church. She had worked in a factory. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing and fishing. She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Clifford in 1999, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three sons, Edward Ramage Jr., Ben Ramage and David Ramage; one brother, Fred Hood; one sister, Martha Gatlin; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Gilmore, former Stillwater resident, died Sept. 16, 2002, in Rifton, N.Y. His ashes will be scattered by his children on the Oregon coast. Gilmore will be remembered by his children as a loving father who struggled bravely during the last four years of his life with the pain and debilitation resulting from a rare blood disease. He worked for Frontier Engineering. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Treasure Gilmore, and brother, Douglas Gilmore. Gilmore is survived by his children, Kate Mitchell, Port Huneme, Calif., LeEric Gilmore, Grants Pass, Ore., Damon Gilmore, Salt Lake City, Utah, Lillian Gilmore of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Sarah Gilmore of Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren; one sister, Katrina Martin, Tulsa; and former wife and friend, Pat Gilmore, Stillwater. Anyone who remembers Gilmore and would like to make a donation is encouraged to do so to any organization involved in environmental protection, research for a cure for myelofibrosis, or the American Red Cross Blood Bank. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marion 'Bill' Miner Marion "Bill" Willie Miner, 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Grace Living Center in Buffalo. Services, with Rev. Wes Peterman presiding, were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church. Interment was at the Laverne Memorial Cemetery. Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home directed the arrangements. He was born in Laverne Oct. 7, 1914, to Winford Loring and Orpha Naomi (Boyer) Miner. He was raised in Laverne and attended Old Madison county schools before attending the Laverne schools. He helped the family in raising and selling mules. He enjoyed playing baseball and going fishing. In 1932 he, two brothers and a friend moved to Roy, N.M., in three covered wagons where he farmed and cowboyed for others. Seven years later he moved back southwest of Laverne. On Feb. 4, 1942, he married Violet Elsie Hubbard in Woodward. In 1943 they moved east of Laverne where he worked for Red Wine, farming and ranching. In 1947 the family moved into Laverne where he was employed for a time by the Oklahoma State Department of Transportation. He was later employed by Jack Pearson Motor Company. He drove a bobtail truck delivering L.P. Natural Gas. He sold his company to Laverne Co-Op and continued working for them. Before 1960 Bill and Jack Pearson bought their own business B&J Gas, Inc. Jack was the silent partner. He continued driving a truck delivering propane and serving his customers. He plumbed lines and serviced appliances and did whatever he needed to do to take care of his customers. After 38 years he sold his business in 1983 and retired. He and his wife began traveling to see family and friends. Some of their other memorable travels were to Canada and Alaska. He enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. They traveled to many rodeos and baseball games He enjoyed singing and going dancing. He was musically inclined and played many different instruments. He was able to make a tune on any string instrument. He especially enjoyed playing the French harp for his family and friends. After entering the nursing home he would entertain by playing the French harp. He had an exceptional memory especially for dates and numbers. He was very good at remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. He could also add up a column of numbers before you could enter them in an adding machine. He enjoyed telling stories of the past to his family. His greatest love was his wife with whom he spent more than 60 years. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Nina Charlene Miner; six brothers, Dow, Ott, Web, Casey, Dutch and Robert Miner; and three sisters, Alveda Fern Colton, Virgie Maye Wells and Ida Florence Jacobs. In addition to his wife of Laverne, he is survived by sons, Wendall and Pat Miner of Beaver, LaVerne and Wanda Miner of Perkins and Bill Miner and his wife Amber of Gainesville, Texas; a brother, Walter Eugene Miner of Enid; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many relatives and a number of friends. Services will be under the direction of the Palmer Funeral Home of Cushing. She was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Thomas B. and Zuma (Kansas) Olive. She received her early education in Texas and Blythe, Calif. She married Thomas McFarlin Nov. 16, 1946, in Courtside, Ariz. They lived in Blythe until moving to Agra to live in 1949. She was active in the Cushing Senior Citizens Center and attended the First Church of God in Cushing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on Oct. 13, 2002, two brothers, Vernon and Joe and four sisters, Theresa, Bonnie, Vera and Erma. Survivors include three sons, Thomas W. He was born in Perkins Feb. 7, 1936, to James P. and Lydia (Etheridge) Hillhouse. When he was a child, he lived on the farm his grandfather homesteaded in the land run of 1889. The two story house was later moved to Taylorsville. He graduated from Perkins High School and lived his entire life in the Stillwater and Perkins area. He began employment with H.E.W. Recycling in 1992 and worked there until he retired in 2001. He greatly enjoyed feeding and watching birds, visiting with his friends; recycling and listening to country and western music. His most recent loves in life were directed toward the staff at Judith Karman Hospice and volunteers, Jo and Rod Martindale. He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents. Survivors include one sister, Viola Reynolds and her husband Donnie of Perkins; one nephew, Richard Reynolds of Perkins; a niece, Barbara Williams, also of Perkins; and three dear friends, John and Betty Weems of Agra and Rebecca Brown of Hawaii. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Dyersburg, Tenn. on Oct. 16, 1954, to Roy Brown Parsons Sr. and June Colleen (Williams) Parsons. He married Linda Abbot on Dec. 19, 2000 in Stillwater. After he graduated from Perkins High School he attended technology school and received his diploma in computers and electronics. He then began working independently with computers and electronics. He lived in the Perkins area most of his life. He was a man of many talents including computers, photography and electronics. He was also a wonderful cook. He was predeceased by his father; paternal grandparents, Helen and C.C. Parsons; maternal grandparents, Nora and Jim Williams; an uncle, Tom Williams; and an aunt, Kati Williams McKnight. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Glencoe. Ken Mantle will officiate and Poteet Funeral Home is in charge of the services. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Glencoe. He was born Feb. 8, 1927 in Yale to Claude B. Adkison and Sophia E. Frost Adkison. He married Ethel May Clark in Yale on Feb. 25, 1952. The couple moved to Oklahoma from Fremont, Colo., in June 1957. Adkison was affiliated with the Church of Christ in Canon City, Colo., and enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on cars. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Ruth Adkison. She was born April 7, 1938 in Browning, Mont., to Paul Attocknie and June Daily Attocknie. She was an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation and an Otoe Tribal member by blood and love. She was a direct descendent of Ten Bears, renown Comanche warrior, statesman and orator. She spent her early years in various states during the tenure of her father's lifetime employment with the United States Indian Health Service. She attended schools in Pawnee, Anadarko and graduated from high school at the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. After post-graduate trainings, she married Lloyd Elm, and thereafter lived in the Onondoga Reservation raising four children and working in Indian education through the Title IV Program. She married Ted Brave Scout in 1985 in Eureka Springs, Ark., and they made their home in Pawnee. "Dycie" was always been involved in traditional tribal cultural activities; dancing, singing and with the Native American Church, of which she was a member of the "A Won On Dah Hey" Chapter. In 1958, she was the Comanche Nation Princess, and she served as head staff for various pow-wows, and served as secretary to the American Indian Exposition in 1998. She was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker and enjoyed traveling, dancing and making friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vivian Attocknie; and her paternal grandparents, Albert and Isa Yellowfish Attocknie. She is survived by her husband of the home; her children, Paula Hayward, Lloyd Elm Jr. and Patricia Elm, all of New York, Nadja Jones of Oregon, Ted Moore Jr. and Randy Moore, of Pawnee, Sydna Yellowfish of Oklahoma City and Traccy Moore of Pawhuska; four brothers, Paul J. George Williams Sr. George Washington Williams Sr., 74, of Ft. Worth, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 in Hanover, Germany. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Williams and Vera Alice (Washington) Williams. He married Mary Ann Blackburn in Tulsa on Nov. 26, 1951. She preceded him in death in 1991. They met at Oklahoma State University. Williams lived in Hominy, Stillwater, Midwest City, Greatbend, Kan., Casper, Wy., Lafayette, La., Midland, Texas, Ft. Worth, Texas, Tulsa, London, England, and Celle, Germany. He attended OSU from 1946 to 1951. While attending, he was a member of the ROTC Program and was president of Beta Theta Pi twice. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base from 1951-1953. He was the owner of Midcontinent International Inc. in Ft. Worth, Texas and Celle, Germany. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Worth and the American Petroleum Institute. He was predeceased by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Ray Williams of Tulsa and Bob Williams of Hominy; and one sister, Alice Mildred Maher of Tulsa. He is survived by three sons, George W. Raymond 'Bobby' Porter Raymond F. "Bobby" Porter, 91, of Wellington, Kan., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He was born to Benjamin Franklin Porter and Grace (Heasty) Porter on Feb. 18, 1911 in Mayfield, Kan. On Aug. 13, 1931 he and Edith Mae Woodbridge married in Anthony, Kan. They have lived their entire lives around Mayfield and Wellington. He was a true farmer. He raised all kinds of farm animals. The grandchildren always loved to come to the farm, because they knew he would let them drive the tractor and help shear the sheep. They retired in 1975, moving to Wellington. Family was always important. He especially liked when all his family would gather together. It was a special time for him. He had an extensive collection of hats, pencils and pocket knifes. Collecting these items was one of his favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Wellington. His parents, daughter Janice Hines, sister Thelma Wright, brothers Johnny Porter, James Porter, Clayton Porter and George Porter precede him in death. He is curvived by his wife, Josephine, of the home; one son, Jeffery Van of Stillwater; and one grandchild *********************************************************************** Nov. 11, 2002 Emmett Tillman Emmett (Earnest) Tillman, 82, Glencoe, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in Glencoe. Services will be Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Jim Hoipkemier, Larry Calvert, and Virgle Calvert will officiate. Internment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Casa Grande, Ariz. Services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Tillman was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Henryetta to Emmett L. and Jeffie L. Parker Tillman. He married Jessie Irene Fincher on April 13, 1940, in Florence, Ariz. She died May 30, 1992. In 1935, at the age of 15, Tillman came to Arizona on a freight train and was a day laborer on various farms around Casa Grande, Ariz., mainly on the Ethington Farm. He also worked for Producer Cotton Oil constructing a cotton gin at Sunland, Ariz. When the gin was finished, he began working there and worked up to the position of head ginner. When World War II broke out, he was classified as 4F because he had polio as a child and one leg was shorter than the other. Tillman got a job helping build Japanese internment camps between Coolidge and Florence, Ariz. One year during the harvest season he and his family traveled to California and Oregon to harvest fruit and vegetables. During the growing season, he worked for Ethington Farms and in the fall would work at the gin. In 1950, he leased a 160-acre farm from Chet Ethington. This was called the "Sewer Farm" because it used sewer water from the town of Casa Grande for irrigation. During this time, Tillman and his brother Bill bought one of the first cotton picking machines in Casa Grande Valley and did custom cotton picking. In 1956, the two, along with a friend, Clarence Tribby, bought the 1,300-acre Lazy T-3 Ranch in Maricopa, Ariz. After seven years, the Lazy T-3 was sold and Tillman bought a 320-acre farm in Wellton, Ariz. His brother bought a potato farm in Colorado and Tribby invested in other properties. In 1963, Tillman's family moved to Wellton. In 1965, Tillman suffered his third heat stroke, the farm was sold and he bought a gas station in Wellton. In 1968, he bought another 240-acre farm in San Simon, Ariz. He worked the farm as well as working in San Simon schools as a bus driver and janitor. He also did construction work at the Playas, N.M., copper smelter during this time. In 1978, he sold the farm in San Simon and moved the family to Glencoe, where he worked on the construction of the OG&E power plant at Sooner Lake. When construction was complete, he worked for the Glencoe school system as a bus driver and janitor until retiring in 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Glencoe. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Ronald, and a grandson, Jeff. Warden was born June 3, 1920, in Sedonia, N.M., to Grover Cleveland Raper and Mary Ann Lesher. She was a lifetime resident of Maramec. On Jan. 29, 1950, she married John E. Warden at her parents' home in Maramec. He died Feb. 19, 1997. Warden was a member of First Baptist Church of Maramec since Dec. 1, 1935, and served as church clerk for more than 50 years. She also served as song leader for a number of years. For years, Warden delivered fruit baskets to people in the community for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. She was in business with her dad in a grocery store in Maramec and cared for her parents. She loved nature in general and loved to raise tomato plants and chickens. People never had to worry about how they stood with Warden because she would always let them know. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, John, Emmitt and Floyd Raper; and three sisters, Retha Raper, Ruth Humphrey and Grace Long. Schultz, 90, Perry, was born July 1, 1912, in Ames. He died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. Lonnie Rutherford officiating. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. Lester was one of 12 children born to Peter and Katherine (Johnson) Schultz. He lived with his family in Meno until moving to the Billings community in 1928. He began farming in 1938 and continued until 1952. On Aug. 17, 1939, he and the former Katherine Stewart were married at the First Christian Church in Perry. To this union, two daughters and two sons were born. Schultz moved to Perry in 1953. He worked at IXL Salvage for six years and also had a Gold Spot Dairy milk route. Later, he moved to the Ceres community and worked for Alfalfa Mills at Tonkawa and Lamont. From 1971-74, he owned over 200 laying hens and operated an egg route. In addition, he owned short horn cattle. After moving to Tonkawa, Lester worked in Ponca City for Gruner Machine Company, a manufacturer of drill bits and other oil field equipment. He worked 13 years for the City of Tonkawa before an injury forced his retirement in 1976. His wife, Katherine, died in 1979. Lester and Hester McCart were married in Fairfax Oct. 17, 1989, and established a home in Perry. His parents, first wife, Katherine, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, Hester, of the home, survivors are two daughters, Janet Milburn, Moore and Lois Schultz, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Lester Wayne Schultz and Mark Edwin Schultz, both of Tonkawa; two grandchildren, two great- grandchildren, two sisters, Ruby Rutherford, Perry and Mable Parker, Enid; one brother, Pete Schultz, Billings; and Melvin Schultz, a nephew who was reared as a son by Schultz's parents. Interment, with American Legion Rites performed by his friends and fellow veterans, was at Holdenville Cemetery. Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville directed the arrangements. He was born April 4, 1930, in Johnsonville, S.C., to Lloyd Venton and Margaret Louise (Carraway) Youmans. He was brought up in Savanna, Ga. He served as a Morse code operator during the Korean War. At the end of his military service, he lived for a while in Wichita, Kan., and in 1958 settled in the Holdenville area. He married Rechinta Gooden in Poteau Aug. 23, 1958. He worked for the Covey Corporation in Holdenville and Kelsey-Hayes Axle in Seminole. He was a familiar figure and was well known in the Holdenville area as the friendly proprietor of the Kerr-McGee service station on North Hinckley; as owner/operator of a local taxi cab service; and as owner/operator of Glory Oil Company. Much of his time was taken up by business interests but he occasionally found time for things he truly enjoyed such as collecting coins, attending bluegrass festivals, hunting and especially fishing. As long as his health permitted, he was very actively involved in community veterans' activities including assisting in providing military honors at the funeral services for fellow veterans. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and especially enjoyed his Sunday school class, the Joshua Class. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Holdenville Kiwanis Club. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Roy Youmans; his stepfather, Arthur Harbort Jr.; and one son-in-law, Richard Ogle. Collins was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Chickasha to O.L. Collins and Dora Blanche (Brower) Collins. He was reared and educated in Lawton, graduating from Lawton High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force serving as an airman during World War II. He served in the northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. His plane was shot down over northern France. He was a prisoner of war for seven months. After returning from the war, Collins enrolled at the University of Oklahoma He graduated with a degree in journalism. He was united in marriage to Shirley Holcomb Sept. 1, 1954, in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death in November 1981. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Campbell was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Mobeetie, Texas, to Vernon Elworth Casity and Bueal Pearl (Moore) Casity. She married John Mathew Schlais Oct. 14, 1929, in Stillwater. He preceded her in death June 10, 1956. She later married Everett C. "Bill" Campbell Nov. 4, 1960, in Perry. He preceded her in death June 8, 1986. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pawnee, where she lived most of her life. Campbell loved her family. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren. For a few years she ran a day care. She loved to cook. In addition to her two husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Maxicine Wells. He graduated from Wellston High School in 1941. He served in the Marines from 1942 to 1943. He married Donna West in Wellston June 29, 1944. He worked for Coca-Cola from 1943 to 1949. He owned and operated the Harris-Phillips 66 service station at Sixth and Husband from 1949 to 1958. He moved to Sixth and Duck where he worked until his retirement in 1985. A longtime Christian, he had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater since 1946, serving in numerous capacities. As a member of the Jaycees, he received the Jaycee Distinguished Service award for Outstanding Young Man of Stillwater in 1957. Harris was president of the Lions Club, chairman of the Stillwater Planning Commission and a member of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. His hobbies included his garden, fish ponds and outdoor activities. His family and friends will miss his hugs and remember his singing and laughter. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Stanfield, Chandler; brother, Cecil Harris of Indiatlantic, Fla.; and daughter, Patricia Schroeder, Tulsa. She was a member of the Methodist faith and was very accomplished with handicrafts and ceramics. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Stephens was born Aug. 11, 1924, on the Clester Homestead, south of Okeene, to Virgil Orien and Ida (Walker) Clester. She was a wonderful, cosmopolitan farm girl and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in home economics. She began her teaching career in Chickasha and after her marriage, she and her husband enjoyed a long loving relationship together. She married Leslie R. Stephens near Wichita, Kan., Feb. 14, 1947. They spent several years in Venezuela, then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, back to South America to Argentina, and then to California for a short time. The couple made their home in Oklahoma City where she taught home economics at Mayfield Junior High and Western Oaks Junior High. In addition to teaching, Stephens and her husband operated the Clester homestead and received the centennial certificate from the State of Oklahoma. They worked several years in the oil and gas business, checking records and buying leases. Oil and gas research inspired her to delve into further research and began a fulfilling career in genealogy. She not only researched her own family, she became so well-known as a genealogist that she was hired by people throughout the United States to research their family histories. She was a member of the New Covenant Christian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Stephens is survived by her daughter Kathryn Kim Swenson, Stillwater; three grandchildren, Sharlet Kamille Swenson, Stillwater, Emily Danelle Swenson, Stillwater, Parker Leston Dolezal, Stillwater; and two sisters, Evangeline Dorothy Fox, Okeene, and Melba Elaine Doshier, Covington; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, DAR sisters and friends across the nation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerald 'Mack' Nickels Services for retired Stillwater firefighter, Jerald Thomas "Mack" Nickels, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Van and Minnie (Ethridge) Nickels. He attended Oklahoma City schools until his family moved to Perkins when he was 10 years old and attended Payne Center School. He graduated from Perkins High School in 1939. After his education, he entered the U.S. Army. On Dec. 24, 1940, he married Lodeine Kirby in Perkins. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, the couple moved to Stillwater where he worked at Murphy's Hardware. In 1949, Nickels began his career with the Stillwater Fire department as a firefighter and remained with the department until his retirement in 1969 as assistant fire chief. After his retirement, he owned and operated his own wood refinishing business. He greatly enjoyed reading, bird watching and growing irises. Nickels was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. When she returned from California, she married Preston Morehead and spent many years in Stillwater, where her son was born and raised. While in Stillwater, she worked at Anthony's Department Store and Katz Department Store. Later, she married Clarence Casey and they lived in Stillwater until they moved to Sherman, seven years ago. She was blessed with an outgoing and fun loving personality which won her many friends. She was a good person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a life-long Christian and a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. She attended Perkins schools and graduated from Perkins High School. She married Clair Frank Bigler on Aug. 7, 1938 in Chandler. He died on Aug. 2, 1994. She lived in West Texas from 1940 to 1983 around Midland, Texas. She then moved to Perkins and later to Stillwater, where she has resided ever since. During her life, she was very involved in the community. Bigler was a church president at UMW, president of Cimarron Valley Extension Club, Sunday School teacher, member of the Administrative Board in charge of funeral dinners, member of the Pecos County Historical Society, member of the Teachers and Students Alumni Association in Perkins. In 1991, she served as the president of the Payne County Genealogical Society; she also served as secretary of the organization. Her family was one the first families in Payne County, Oklahoma Territory and was also one of the first families in the Twin Territories. Bigler constantly worked on genealogy searches on her computer and had worked toward establishing a website dedicated to her family history. She was also a volunteer for obituaries in the Payne County on the "Roots" Web. She was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church. He owned and managed his own business establishments. Most recently, before retirement, he was manager of the safety group at Lockheed/Martin Company. He was also an excellent manager of program control and organizational services for NASA shuttle payloads, space lab and space station contracts. He was honored by NASA many times for outstanding, sustained performance and leadership. He enjoyed sailing with his wife, family and friends and traveling with his wife throughout the United States and other countries. A graveside service and interment will be in the Tahlequah Cemetery in Tahlequah Saturday at 11 a.m. Craig was born March 16, 1905, in Parsons Tenn., to James Willard and Lucy Mae (Austin) Wheat. She was one of five children all of whom are now deceased. In 1911, her family came to Oklahoma. She received her schooling in various towns throughout the state, graduating from high school in Stigler in 1923. She began her teaching career that same year. Craig began her college education at Oklahoma College for Women and received her undergraduate degree at the University of Tulsa. She earned a masters degree from Northeastern State University and also studied at the University of Arkansas, the University of Washington at Seattle and the University of Oregon at Corvalis. She also studied Spanish in Guadalajara, Mexico. Craig was married to James Washington Craig M.D. in 1935 and lived in Miami, Oklahoma, until his death in 1952. From 1923 until her retirement in 1970, she taught in the following Oklahoma school districts: Porum, Foyil, Sequyoah, Talala, Lenapah, Vian, Sapulpa and Okemah. She also taught in Alma, Ark. She is survived by nieces, a nephew and their spouses: Vivian Morgan and husband George of Stillwater; Katherine Anderson and husband Jack of Bella Vista, Ark.; and M.W. Wheat M.D. and wife Carol of Largo, Fla. In addition, she is survived by 13 great nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. She was born in Quay Sept. 13, 1917, to Ephraim Gunn and Della Ann (Sallee) Hoskins. She attended Bethel and Maramec Schools and graduated at the age of 15. She married Arley Wilson Coke May 7, 1934, in Pawnee. He died July 11, 1992. The couple lived in the Maramec area until they moved to San Pedro, Calif., where he worked in the ship yards during the war. They returned to Oklahoma and lived in the Jennings area until they moved to Stillwater in 1961. She worked as a nurse's aid at Stillwater Nursing Home for 10 years before taking early retirement. She enjoyed needlework. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Wilma Arlen Oakes and a granddaughter, Ginger Black. After her husband's death, she moved from Perry to Oklahoma City, where she worked as a cashier at The Cellar Restaurant until her retirement. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. After he graduated, he married Doris Humphrey and then served three years in the Air Force. After he was discharged, he returned to Oklahoma and received his master's degree in accounting from OSU. During his 40 year career in the accounting profession he became well known and respected in the business community. The last 32 years of his career he practiced public accounting under the firm name known today as Briscoe, Burke & Grigsby L.L.P. Since he retired in 1999, he enjoyed his family and friends, especially his seven grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his parents. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Noble was born July 16, 1923, near Hominy, to J.W. "Choc" and Ona May (Smith) Noble. He attended and graduated from Hominy High School in 1940. Noble served in the U.S. Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, landing at Cherbourg, France, and fighting his way across France and Germany. Wounded, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon his honorable discharge, he married Jane Ann Martin Dec. 12, 1947, in Stillwater. He received his bachelor of science degree in 1948 from Oklahoma A&M in animal science. As an undergraduate, he was on the 1947 Livestock Judging Team and was president of Block and Bridle. He went to work for Wilson Packing Company in Kansas City, Kan., and remained there for a one and half years before returning to Oklahoma A&M, where he was a member of the animal science faculty. He received his PhD from Kansas State in 1959. While at Oklahoma State University, Noble held research, extension and teaching appointments. His primary responsibility was for developing and teaching introduction to animal science. Through this course, he had a significant influence on tens of thousands students. The magnitude of this influence is indicated by the fact he was honored with the outstanding teacher award five times. In 1970, he received the Tyler Award as an animal science professor of distinction. He also served with distinction as the extension sheep specialist and was the faculty member in charge of the purebred sheep flocks. In addition, he was the sheep superintendent at the state fair of Oklahoma and the Tulsa state fair for many years. Upon his retirement from OSU, friends, colleagues and alumni established an endowment to support and recognize outstanding academic excellence in the freshman class. Noble's awards and tributes are many and include not only agriculturally-related recognition. They also reflect his commitment to community involvement. He was an active member in the Stillwater Noon Lions Club for more than 40 years. He received the Melvin Jones Award for community service, the highest honor given by Lions International. He was also the first Lion member to receive a lifetime membership. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James C. Noble and William S. Noble. She was married to Edward H. Fehring Aug. 17, 1935, at Hurley. They moved to Independence, Kan., where she was employed as a proofreader and feature writer for the Independence Daily Reporter for 24 years. She moved to Ponca City in 1980 and in 1982 became a housemother for the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She returned to Ponca City in 1990 where she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, A.A.R.P., the Literature Club and Prime Timers. Her enjoyments included reading, writing and watching news and sports programs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1969, a brother, Charley Santini and a grandson in infancy. Meinhart, 69, head of the department of management, College of Business Administration, Oklahoma State University died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater. Services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Meinhart was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., and grew up in the Chicago area. He received his bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Illinois-Champaign in 1954. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army for two years. In 1956, he returned to the University of Illinois and received the master's degree in management in 1959 and a doctorate in management in 1964. Meinhart joined the OSU management faculty in 1962 and served in all academic ranks from assistant professor to full professor. The OSU Regents named him a Regents Distinguished Service Professor in 1984. During his 40 years of service at OSU he served as department head from 1966-83. He then returned to his first love of teaching. Because of his leadership abilities, the management faculty prevailed on him to once again serve as department head in 1988 - the position he held from that date to the time of his death. He enjoyed interaction with students and taught one course each semester while serving as department head. Meinhart was the author of numerous academic publications. He received a number of honors and awards such as the College of Business Administration teacher of the year and a Ford Foundation Fellowship at the Harvard Business School. He also served on many University and College committees that included being chairman of OSU's Academic Department Heads Advisory Committee to the Provost. He was an active member of the Academy of Management and many other professional organizations. Meinhart also served as a consultant to business firms and governmental organizations. He was a sports enthusiast that enjoyed OSU and Stillwater High School athletic events as well as coaching boys' baseball and girls' softball in the summer. He and his family were avid hikers and spent their vacations hiking the rugged San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado with friends and colleagues. Survivors include his wife Karen of Stillwater; a son, Craig of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Elisa of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Andrea of Columbia, Mo.; and a brother, Ken of Orlando, Fla. Valentin 'Val' Pavlov Valentin "Val" Pavlov died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Stillwater Medical Center. Memorial services, with Robert H. Fellows from St. Andrews Episcopal Church presiding, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Fairlawn Cemetery. He was born in Leningrad, Russia, Aug. 16, 1901, to Constantine and Maria Pavloff. The family came to the United States in 1924. His father was one of the founders of the Little Russian Tea Room in New York City. He became a United States citizen and joined the Army in 1942. He served on active duty for more than 20 years and as a reservist for an additional 10 years. During World War II he was in New Guinea and later with the Army of Occupation in Japan. He advanced to the rank of master sergeant and was a Russian language specialist. After he retired, he moved to Riverside, Calif., and later moved back to Stillwater. He was a life member of the American Legion and a member of American Legion Post 129 in Stillwater. He was predeceased by his parents and an older sister, Maria (Mrs. Paul) Arthur. In addition to his wife, Halina, of Riverside, he is survived by a sister, Anna Arthur of Stillwater; a son, Paul; a daughter-in-law, Roberta and two grandchildren, Alxis and Niklous of Heath, Texas. Ana Huff Ana P. Huff, 89, of Glencoe, died at her residence Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Glencoe Church of Christ. She was born southeast of Glencoe Dec. 12, 1912, to Melvin and Edith (Stewart) Honeyman. She married Cecil E. Huff Dec. 15, 1932, in Perkins. She attended Eureka schools and graduated from Glencoe High School in 1931. After marrying, she and her husband lived in Stillwater delivering milk in town. They then moved to Glencoe to farm. While helping maintain the farm, Huff worked at the Glencoe School cafeteria. In 1968, she went to work for Stillwater Medical Center and worked there for 10 years. She retired in 1978 due to her health. She worked diligently in her church and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was a homemaker, a member of the Glencoe Church of Christ, Rambo Rustlers and the Worth While Club. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; one daughter, Ana P. Rutherford; two grandsons, Clinton Huff and Bradley Huff; one sister, Nila Esposito; and two brothers, Claire Honeyman and Edwin Honeyman. She is survived by two sons, Donald E. He was born Sept. 25, 1908, in Fort Atkinson, Wis. Schroeder received bachelor's degrees in agriculture and in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master's degree in agricultural engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He helped design and build flood control dams with the Soil Conservation Service from 1933-36. He was professor of agricultural engineering at Penn State from 1936-46 and was head of farm equipment research for the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1946-47. He then served as professor and head of the agricultural engineering department at Oklahoma State University from 1947 until his retirement in 1974. He participated in engineering consulting trips to Lebanon, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Colombia. He was a fellow, life member, vice president and Massey-Ferguson Medalist of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and a life member of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education. He was listed in the American Men of Science and was a member of Alpha Zeta, Sigma Xi and Sigma Tau professional societies. He was one of the founders of the Stillwater Country Club, serving as a developer and engineer in charge of construction and as its fourth president. In 1936 he married Viola Lee Pease in Madison, Wis., and they had two daughters. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church, Stillwater. She died in 1998. Visitation was Wednesday at Roller Funeral Home of Mountain Home. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday at the East Side Baptist Church of Mountain Home with Dr. Mike Shy officiating. Interment was at the Baxter Memorial Gardens. Doyel was born to Blaine and Betty Doyel at Dillon, Mont., April 14, 1956. He married Lila (Hagemann) Sept. 12, 1981. Doyel was a certified public accountant and managing partner with Bowman and Associates C.P.A.s since 1983. Doyel enjoyed working with kids. He was a children's Sunday school teacher and R.A leader at East Side Baptist Church for many years, school board member and LEGO coach for the North Central Christian School and was on the board of directors of KCMH Christian Radio Station. He served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of captain. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Fred Hagemann; and his brother-in-law, Ron Simpson. His father Eddie Dean Blake preceded him in death. Evie Odell Smith Evie Odell Smith, 79, Oklahoma City, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. Smith was born Aug. 27, 1923 in Paris, Texas to Ernest and Nannie Lou (Morgan) Davis. She married Dock Smith on Dec. 16, 1944 in Salinas, Calif. He died May 25, 1980. The couple moved to the Perry community from Texas in 1948. She was a homemaker and loved parakeets and plum dumplings. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Donald Randolph Thomasson Donald Randolph Thomasson, 20, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Services with Paul Weise presiding will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Strode Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ripley. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements. He was born in Claremore on Jan. 20, 1982, to John William and Suzanne (Frazier) Thomasson. He attended school at Lincoln Academy and received his GED in 1998. He worked at Showcase Cabinetry. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading his Bible. He liked to skateboard, enjoyed the outdoors and liked to work with computers. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, maternal grandmother, paternal grandparents, one half brother and a number of aunts and uncles.
