Stewart PAMPA - a former Erick, Okla., resident, died Monday, July 6, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Texola Baptist Church with Charlie Floyd and Paul Nachtgall officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery in Mayfield, Okla., by Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home of Erick, Okla. Mrs. Stewart was born and raised in Mayfield. Her family moved to Erick where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class in 1932. She received her teaching certificate from Southwestern State University. After returning to Mayfield, she taught fifth and sixth grades. Mrs. Stewart moved to Stillwater in 1938 where she taught school while working on her master's degree at Oklahoma State University. At OSU, she received her master of science degree and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. She then taught school at Gould, Sweetwater and Saguache, Colo. Mrs. Stewart retired in 1985 after 31 years as a teacher in Saguache. She did postgraduate work, including in journalism, at Adams State College, the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley and New Mexico Highlands University of Las Vegas. After retirement, Mrs. Stewart and her husband returned to Erick in 1993. She was a member of Texola Baptist Church. They recently moved to Pampa. She married Orville Stewart in 1934 at Erick. Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe E. Stewart of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Irene Reed of Erick and Celia Miller of Burwick, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
